Two superpower-summoning megastars in their fields for a joint LP? Yes, please! Visionary Wu guardian RZA and multitalented Interpol'er Paul Banks have made the perfect combo album of alternative rock and hardcore hip-hop in Anything But Words. It could stand to be more counter to the status quo, but as it is, it's powerful, provoking, risky and rebellious when it didn't have to be.

Your patience will be especially tested during the closing trio of songs that could have been better had they been a couple minutes shorter and/or delivered with more zest musically.

Hard rhymes and bouncy hooks, stacked atop big drums and supple synths, hold steady through a barrage of guest spots.

While RZA has never sounded so alive, Banks has never sounded so, well, dead. This hot/cold, menace-and-moody pattern--it's what most of Anything But Words' song structures are all about. [No. 135, p.51]
