I wasn't a fan of the Augustines before, in fact I I'd never even heard of them. This was a reco from a friend that sat "un-listened to" for about a year. Big mistake. Big. This is easily one of the best albums I've heard in a while - McCarthy's vocals took a sec to wrap my head around, but the tunes... Man, they just sweep you up and take you on anthemic trip. Big, emotional, rewarding.

After years of striving, makes Augustines a band that now sound energised by palpable relief. [Apr 2014, p.69]
  2. Ostensibly an album about finding hope and navigating through the pathways of solace, Augustines is a shimmering, first-rate slice of pensive and passionate indie-rock.

While this maximalist approach might conceivably work well live, on record it often feels overblown, overwhelming and ultimately exhausting. [Mar 2014, p.108]
