    Laufey continues to push jazz beyond the constraints of the modern music industry with a beautifully crafted record. Her influences are tasteful and her talent is apparent, and this album is another big step forward for her career and the jazz genre as a whole.

    At this point it's clear that Laufey doesn't just make music, she makes art, and every song on this album are her masterpieces. Her smooth vocals match perfectly to every song, and the songwriting feels genuine to her sound. My top three favorite tracks on this album were:
    California & Me
    Serendipity Lovesick It's so hard choosing a favorite cause they are all just so good.     It’s bolder and more intentional than her 2022 debut, Everything I Know About Love, which felt like a sketchbook compiling the artist’s assumptions and hesitations on the topic. Here, Laufey doesn’t simply let jazz inform the work; she uses it as a vehicle to enact fantasies and ambitions, lending her contemporary musings a misty, out-of-time quality.

    If these [tracks] feel like throwbacks, they're no more so than Norah Jones' best work, and there's nonetheless something timeless about the breezy "While You Were Sleeping" and, with its chugging guitars, "Lovesick". [Oct 2023, p.29]
