Making perfect pop isn’t easy, but Troye Sivan is a star who’s done his homework. With one foot in pop’s past and another in its present, Bloom is a record that could turn its considerate maker into one of mainstream music’s most revered and fascinating talents.

On their second album, no words would be enough for the glory, beauty and purity that is this album, everything here is exceptional and so dreamy, liberating! Troye sivan is one of the most essential voices in new pop.

moreover, "Bloom" is a collection of deeply romantic and personal songs that establish Sivan as a gifted champion.

And he said age is just a number
    just like any other
We can do whatever, do whatever you want, says Troye Sivan i'm 'Seventeen'.

But I sympathize, and I recognize
    And baby, I apologize
That I got the good side
The good side of things. (and so he said on 'The Good Side')

I want you all to myself
Don't leave none for nobody else
I am an animal with you. - Animal 2018.

As a huge fan of Blue Neighborhood, I was enormously excited for this album, and if Sweetener hadn't come out the week before it would easily be the biggest disappointment of the year. i struggle to think of an album more middling and mediocre, so noncommital in all of its facets, so easily forgotten and confused with a million other projects most of which at least have a few high points. There's only one good song on the album-Animal-and even then it's more just good within the context of an awful album rather than good when stacked against other projects. The most frustrating thing about the album is that you sense there was potential here-and indeed, Blue Neighborhood showcases Troye's undeniable talent. That talent is invisible on this record. If you thoguht Troye was uncharismatic on BN, he's a brick wall here, unmoving, uncommitted to whatever he happens to be seeing about. The lyrics are as basic as can be. This album is just not forgetable, at all. The nostalgic pop that Troye always brings to the game is what makes him have such a strong, yet not that big, fandom. It's a great album, with very strong lyrics and very well done production.

It also had lows like the good side, a 21st- century ballad about receiving the positive end, emotionally and romantically, of a bad breakup. it has epic singles with visuals to boot, and two stellar features with indie singer gordi and ariana grande in postcard and dance to this, respectively. It's only flaw seems to be its song order. i'm particular when in comes to song order, and the flow from postcard to dance to this to plum seems disjointed, and for a 10-track album, it draws attention from the A+ production. other than that, I have no reason to say it isn't an incredible album. WOULD RECOMMEND: Plum, Lucky Strike, Animal, This This (Target deluxe edition)

This is quite an interesting album for me to review. I know Sivan only through Charli XCX's most recent single "1999" and I think he does a great job on it, so I decided to listen to this album.
'Bloom', overall, is just a bad rendition of Tove Lo's 'Lady Wood' albums to be honest, not only not having the same emotionless feelings with a hint of aggressiveness or even a bit of emotion

This album is probably going to stay as one of the best mainstream pop albums of the decade. Simple but delightful, honest and lovely, it's songs are really good, but as a whole, they work excellently. The only questionable thing would be the placement of some songs, which can feel weird at the beggining, but still, they are good enough so you drown into each song's experience.

In "Bloom", Troye Sivan shows his emotional complexity, making us travel through high happy moments and low hearth breaking epiphanies. We reach My My My!, one of the best songs of 2018, and The Good Side, one of the best written songs of 2018. With Bloom, the metaphoric bottoming anthem, the album takes a leap, reaching for a sound that's more commercial and not that great compared to the previous songs. But it doesn't stay there long. Postcard is an emotional, heart breaking, yet hopeful, ballad that will make you sob and scream "I can relate". And this is probably the last amazing and showstopping moment of the album. Going to the second part of it, Dance to this, a collaboration with the amazing vocalist Ariana Grande, lacks power and reaches moments of boredom. Plum is another great pop song, but not remarkable as My My My! or Seventeen and the same goes for Lucky Strike. WHWTD and Animal are both chill songs that couldn't be more different from one another. And both are really good.
Bloom showcases an amazing story telling composition by Troye and his contributors and also an incredible production that goes over the top sometimes. The tracklist looks like a roller-coaster of feelings that works most of the times but others just makes hard to get into the next song.
The album isn't perfect but it's definitely one of the best of the year.

{Full disclosure, I'm gay.] Bloom is an important and historic album for how authentically gay it is. It is honestly and earnestly gay. It’s rare to hear songs sung so unguardedly and sincerely and openly by a gay male performer. Rarer still, are songs with sensual lyrics about gay romance and gay sex, laden with male pronouns, that aren’t brashly explicit.

There’s something really refreshing and wonderful about the range of emotion on Bloom. Bloom is a beacon that stands out amongst all the pop music that’s out right now, for how sensitive and genuine and non-objectifying it is. Troye’s sentiments are not forced, they’re not part of a manufactured persona, they’re not trending – they’re real and they’re his.

It’s a well-rounded collection of songs that captures Troye Sivan in candid moments of love, lows, and lust. The world needs more gay pop stars being gay, and more emotionally honest male vocalists being vulnerable, and Troye delivers with Bloom.

It's triumphant gayness aside, musically, the production is inconsistent, ranging from pleasantly catchy, to overwrought and too referential. The synths and guitars, awash in reverb and chorus effects processing, conjure dreamy sound scapes akin to Beach House, The XX, and even The Cure. Jaunty popcorn beats are reminiscent of 80's pop, particularly the title track, which sounds so much like Fine Young Cannibals' "She Drives Me Crazy". But these same musical tropes do not mesh with the mood of several of the songs, namely "Animal" and "The Good Side", which would do much better if all the electronic sounds were dissected away, leaving only Troye's earnest vocals and a piano or guitar.

There are two definite low points on the album: "Plum", with its trite metaphors and forgettable music, and "What a Heavenly Way to Die" with its uninteresting melody, drab instrumentation, and intangible lyrics.

On a positive note, there are definitely some great tracks. "My My My!" is the stand-out best song on the entire album, in all its supermodel-stomping glory, with the precociously evocative lyrics of a bossy bottom and a catchy chorus. "Dance to This" melds Troye's simmering vocals with Arianna Grande's sultry drawl on a versatile song that can easily transition from dance floor to bedroom floor, with it's sped-up Bossa Nova-like beat and pleasantly lilting guitar. The title track, though slightly too reminiscent of 80's pop, still carries a lot of weight with it's innuendo-laden lyrics about losing one's virginity. And "Postcard" is the album's triumphant torch song, with a classic melody and arrangement that will sound just as good in twenty years as it does now.

I'm pleased with the album overall, and I'm happy to see that Troye Sivan has grown into the gay pop icon I've been yearning for.

It clearly was a product of the time, following the dark, minimalist, downbeat pop appealing more towards the alternative crowd that came after Lorde exploded in 2013, along with other acts like Halsey, Melanie Martinez, Tove Lo, Alessia Cara, and Daya. And while that debut wasn't exactly amazing, it certainly does make for a solid effort from Troye, showing a lot of promise with him as a songwriter, especially when it comes with making pop music for an LGBT audience. And much like Lorde with her followup record, Melodrama, Troye reinvented his sound while still staying true to what made him unique in the first place. Bloom is a magnetic album and arguably the best pop album of the year, or at least one of the best of the year, definitely a top 10 for me!

Bloom is both youthful and mature, clearly basking in the youthful exuberance of love and sexual awakening, but mature in that has some life experience on his hands, not quite "wise beyond his years" but still know what his place in life is. This comes in a lot on the vocals. While admittingly Troye does not have an amazing vocal range, which you can tell on the chorus on the title track where his voice cracks, he does have a ton of charisma and energy that makes him captivating, making Bloom and My My My! standout pop hits. And even with the gentle ballads like Seventeen, the Good Side, Postcard, and Animals work as well with Troye capturing that intimate sound and style, much like his older work. But the real standout is the production. Troye manages to create a sound that feels like a classic but also sounds like nothing else. From the bombast of My My My! and Bloom, the latter of which has an amazing hook, definitely the best hook on the record, to the tight Lucky Strike that does not loose a beat, to the transcendental Seventeen fitting with the feeling of a rite of passage, and the magnetic and amazing ballad the Good Side, which reminds me a lot of a sad Smiths ballad, specifically Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want, which is a high compliment (hell considering there is a track here called What a Heavely Way to Die, that HAD to be intentional). And while Troye might not be on Morrissey's level in terms of lyrics, Troye did step up his game here in the lyrical department. Adapting with writing some catchy hooks like on My My My! but also using a lot of interesting metaphors like the flower and garden metaphors on Bloom, to the nicotine references on Lucky Stripe, and the sweetness of fruit with Plum, the album is both filled with memorable cadences as well as moving forward with his visible queerness, with topics like losing his virginity and sexual awakening on Seventeen, to being open and proud on tracks like My My My! and Bloom, and genuine love ballads that anyone can enjoy, like with declaration of love and vulnerability on tracks like Postcard, Plum, and What a Heavenly Way to Die, to even breakups like on the Good Side that hits you with feelings! It is downright life affirming! All of which is packaged in a tight 36 minutes, leaving little places for the album to drag out too long!

If there is a downside to this album, the guest features are a let down. Postcard, while still a great song, does have a rather unnecessary feature from Gordi. And Dance for You, with some great and tight production and composition full of groove and energy, is hampered with the lack of chemistry between Troye and Ariana Grande, which is a shame because I do like both singers. Also it is a bit odd that an album about gay love has the sole duet track be with a female singer. No disrespect to Ariana she is a goddess!

So, as far as sophomore albums go, I will say that Troye has really rebranded himself and his image. In the best possible way too.

So, as far as sophomore albums go, I will say that Troye has really rebranded himself and his image. In the best possible way too.
The album really brings that 80s nostalgia, and gives it a real modern twist.

At the very end of the album, I did feel very reflective, as I felt like I had listened to something out of a very emotional movie. Throughout listening to the album, I got a lot of different feelings and it made me think about a lot of different situations about life, some bad, some good, and towards the end I just felt like I had weight taken off my shoulders. When you convey multiple emotion in an album, then you’ve doen a good job. If you can make someone feel reflective about the album, or situations in their life that the songs from that album made them think about, then you’ve done a great job. The production, the lyrics, and the deliverance of the album was perfectly polished off, and sent to the world with a beautiful shine to it. This album for me told a story. It was a story that I made from my own head by listening to the lyrics and adding that with the sound of the songs individually.

Troye as an artist as seen tremendous growth as an artist, in the way he delivers his lyrics, in the things he sings about, and even just rebranding his own image. I don’t get a false image from Troye, and I feel that this whole album his just pure and honest, and to e able to do that with just his second album, is incredible. I don’t recall anyone being able to do that in the modern age, other than Lady Gaga. It takes balls to do that, and to be able to pull it off, takes real artistry. I am a strong believer that Troye deserves more attention, and I think it’s slowly getting there. He just needs that one song, I believe, to just storm upon the music industry, and then I think people will pay attention. How ‘My My My!’ didn’t do that, is beyond belief.

‘Bloom’ is a bomb ass album that he, and his fans should be extremely proud of.

Troye Sivan is the LGBTQ+ icon that we all need to listen more on the radio: He's young, he's kind and he has lots of things to say to every young queer (and not) person around the world. The way he talks about sexuality in his album is exceptionally beautiful.

The sophomore album from Aussie act Troye Sivan is easily the best pop project released this year. While his first LP "Blue Neighborhood", released in late 2015, explored themes of growing up, finding one's identity, and teenage angst, love, and loss, "Bloom" finds Sivan exploring the theme of finding love and fighting for it in the most mature representation he's ever opted for. The production on the whole album is magnificent, and the lyricism even better. The highlights are hard to choose, for all tracks are essentials, from the dance-able 'Bloom', to the heart-shattering 'Postcard', and the album coming full circle with the outstanding tender closer, 'Animal', a proclaimed lovesong about Sivan's current boyfriend Jacob Bixenman. What truly stands out is that the whole thing has the proper length (a running time of 35 minutes) and is straight to the point: 10 well-made tracks, no fillers.
At only 23, Troye Sivan could give fellow artists a lesson about how to make a truly astonishing pop record. "Bloom" proves itself to be a moody, elegant, and sharp record at its core.

Нет чувства, что этот бит лишний, как было с половиной треков альбома "Lust for life" Lana Del Rey. While tracks like "Animal" and "What a Heavenly Way to Die" are pleasing-if-passable--largely due to the fact that they lack that air of specificity that gives so many other of Bloom's songs their strength--Bloom remains a powerful, thoughtful, and engaging listen: an album about queer life that welcomes all listeners from all quadrants.

Sivan may indeed only be 23 and while he might not be a gay icon just yet, records like Bloom which clearly and proudly sing about same sex relationships while sounding shiny and polished in all the right places, will certainly help him get there.
