This was my introduction to Wolf Alice. At first I was underwhelmed, but it soon grew on me. It's a triumph that an album this diverse is at the same time so cohesive. The nostalgia "lipstick on the glass" reflects on a concluded relationship and the anger of "safe from heartbreak..." as the title suggests regrets falling in love when the heartbreak can be this all encompassing. This is Wolf Alice at their most clear. Every song feels well developed and fully fleshed out. Stacked with highlights and performances that swerve expectations. It's an absolute achievement that doesn't overstay or leave too early although it can feel very dense at times. Highlight: lipstick on the glass, safe from heartbreak, delicious things

Way too calculated. It's still a good album though. Imagine what they would do if they weren't trying to sound like this or that.

A living flash that moves for 40 minutes. Wolf Alice's new album tempts between melancholy and anger, doubts and facts. I thought it would d be more rocker, but I think the soft touches worked effectively.

fav tracks: "Smile", "Delicious Things", "Play the Greatest Hits", "The Beach II" & "No Hard Feelings"
KEY-TRACK: "How Can I Make It OK?"

I'm not a die-hard Wolf Alice fan but I still do pay close attention to their efforts since their debut EP 'Blush' (released back in 2013). At that time I knew they definitely had a major unrevealed potential. Well the wait was long but it seems like they eventually got what they always deserved.

I'm not a die-hard Wolf Alice fan but I still do pay close attention to their efforts since their debut EP 'Blush' (released back in 2013). At that time I knew they definitely had a major unrevealed potential. Well the wait was long but it seems like they eventually got what they always deserved.

However my opinion on 'Blue Weekend' is that is an okay album compared to what they proposed with 'My Love Is Cool' (2015). Of course the majority of the showcased tracks are interesting mainly 'Delicious Things', 'Safe From Heartbreak' or 'Feeling Myself'. They just couldn't resist to give birth to another signature song as 'Play the Greatest Hits': I hate Ellie's voice on it and the production voluntarily sounds way too messy to me compared to the others well-structured tracks. However I simply can't deny the incredible versatility of tracks in here, so impressive! And Wolf Alice never lose their self identity. I didn't dislike this project but it's an aberration to me that it received better scores than 'My Love Is Cool' or 'Visions of a Life'. It clearly didn't give birth to a catharsis for me despite its marvelous, fairy, rough and confident movements.

In conclusion if you don't know Wolf Alice, 'Blue Weekend' appears as an interesting album to start with in order to get an overview to what they are able to do. You can feel their powerful shoegaze and alternative dream rock influences.

Amazing album, it gets better on every listen. The singles are good, but this is meant to be listened to as an album. Wolf Alice are the epitome of cool, so confident and stylish in every song.

Yes, the lyrics are underwhelming, and some of the sounds are recycled from previous eras or other contemporary success. A little too much Annie Lenox on "How Can I Make It OK", anyone? Or does anyone else here the influences of Annie Clark (St Vincent) on tracks like "Lipstick on the Glass"?

Nonetheless, this is a great album that starts to shine during listen #2 or #3.

Really surprised by the acclaim for this album, it isn't that special as far as songwriting goes. The melodies are predicatable a bit dull, and well, nothing on here felt vital, nothing moved me. But Ellie Roswell's vocals are great and her band are excellent musicians, which is probably the only redeeming quality for me.

The new album from the London alternative rock band is a cohesive collection of songs that may be seen as a reflection of the band members' souls as well as a warm embrace for people who listen to it. It's magnificent, passionate, mind-blowing, and daring all at the same time.

This album has so many ups and downs in terms of tempo and style that it just blows me away! It is an incredible release with some thrashing, up-beat tracks and some seriously down-tempo chilled-out tunes that just culminate into a fantastic overall package

Blue Weekend is my introduction to Wolf Alice and I have to say I'm pretty impressed. This album has been very well thought through and I suppose what stands out as much as anything is the aestethic the band have produced here. For sure there are some solid songs here - most are excellent and there isn't one I would class as weak, but the overall album works better together than any of the particular songs. "Lipstick On The Glass" reminds me of what Fleetwood Mac might sound like if they are doing "Rumours" these days. Contemporaries, "Haim" are a bit of an influence (especially on the vocals) at times as well but "Wolf Alice" are a far darker brand of pop. They throw their hat into a few different genres here and are never afraid to try out ideas. It's always interesting and is well paced. "Blue Weekend" is an apt title, the album is a mix of moods, the elation and the comedown, the rush and the drama. Wolf Alice have converted me here and there is every chance that with time this album will go further up in my estimation. Expand

Blue Weekend isn’t a perfect record, with the folky No Hard Feelings and Safe From Heartbreak (If You’ve Never Been In Love) a little whimsical next to everything else going on. It matters little, though. Rowsell’s rallying cry in Smile that “I ain’t afraid of the fact that I’m sensitive” is borne out in a wild and tender third album.
