This is what happens to (unfortunately) not-so-intelligent musicians when they become popular. The same thing happened to Seal. A few good songs and after that a total meltdown (which is most definitely based on some worthless internal "logic"). The songs are boring beyond belief. Not one good idea on this album. Even you (the reader) can write a better album.

Too often, however, these songs underwhelm. the likes of Sand and Boyfriend confusing unengaging plodding earnestness for emotional heft. [Jun 2018, p.113]

Castles exists in a bit of a netherworld--it's commercial yet idiosyncratic, classic in its structure yet contemporary in its sound-but that's also it's a quietly compelling record, revealing an artist who is starting to hit her stride.
