LollyDFeb 24, 2006One of the greatest albums ever made. FACT Hot Chip-break your legs!

MackyOFeb 18, 2006Good and certainly not for everyone. It's minimal, yet warm. Tongue-in-cheek, but observant. This one is definitely for fans of Ween who prefer their Pure Guava-era work.

ACFeb 18, 2007A pretty good debut by Hot Chip. Even though, it isn't quite as good as there second LP "The Warning" when you compare the two. Other than that, the album still has some pretty solid tracks to listen to (Keep Fallin', Playboy, Crap Kraft Dinner, Down With Prince, Shinning Escalade & Take Care). Overall, good album.

JustinWFeb 21, 2006Takes at least 3 listens to fully appreciate. This album does take some chances, has some quirky vocals, and comes off as unique and novel in a time when those qualities are rare. I can't say it blows my mind, but it's an adventerous debut that has me hooked for now. No telling if it will stand the test of time.

UncutRestlessly inventive, Hot Chip also manage what many bedroom eclectics don't: crafting a genuinely organic, proper album, and the relaxed enthusiasm that drives this debut is absurdly infectious. [Jun 2004, p.94]

This is endearing -- Hot Chip's sense of humor is as contagious as their knack for reinvention is obvious. But those traits can't make Coming on Strong sound any less unfinished or even tossed off at times.

Alternative PressCould pass for a set of lo-fi synth demos Sir Paul McCartney cooked up one long weekend for shits and giggles. [Feb 2006, p.130]
