MEU DEUS!!

Lana Del Rey is one of the most prolific and high quality artists to hit the mainstream over the last 10 years or so. If you take "Chemtrails..", "Blue Bannisters" and this album, you could get 2 top class albums out of them. "Paris, Texas" and "Let the Light In" are the standout highlights but it's an album that most definitely deserves the listeners attention. Expand

LDR made her debut with the song Video Games. At that time, she was a girl who only had love in her eyes. Her concept of love was "You are my heaven". The first album was even called Born to Die, which means Born to Love. A young girl loves passionately, asks what love is in the world, and knows how to make love between life and death. Underneath the poignancy and heroic romance, it has a somewhat middle-of-the-road feel. Lana's music image can be said to be the ultimate hedonism, Ride and the mv are her important benchmarks, "Dying young and playing hard", she is sitting on the tire, ignoring everything, as if the world is still, like a pendulum Keep shaking forever. Eleven years later, this album marks a key landmark in Lana's life, with the theme of death. But the difference from before is that when Lana talked about death, she was actually talking about love. At the age of 20, she knew what life and death are, and she was somewhat "sorrowful for writing new words". Approaching her forties, after experiencing the death of her relatives, she finally looked back at her surroundings and realized how short life is, and she cannot take a single cloud with her, and can only cherish the memories of good times. The Grants begins with a song that sets the tone, starting from a church hymn, like a carol at a funeral. Lana Del Rey's real name is Elizabeth Woolridge Grant, and she obviously wrote it to her family. Lana's uncle, David Grant, died in 2016 while climbing the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. Here is a song by American country singer John Denver, because Denver died of the same accident, and his last name is Denver, which happens to be the capital of Colorado. A stroke of God's will. John Denver expressed his love for his hometown by describing mountains and rivers throughout his life. Here "I'm gonna take mine of you with me" is intertextual with his famous song Country Road Take Me Home. After my death, the only thing that matters is my closest These people, they are my family, and it is obvious that Lana here already considers her lover as family. What a romance and what a change, she used to write about death and love, you are the only one in my life, but she herself is empty, now she understands that her life is enriched and precious by her loved ones, and my The family bloodline has you, and my next life will have you. Kintsugi can be said to be The Grant's sister. She explained in more detail the deaths of three relatives. She only attended the last funeral of her grandmother due to her busy schedule. Kintsugi means that when Japan restores cultural relics, it does not restore the original appearance, but fills it with gold and silver. At the end of the second chorus here, I think it is the most romantic and affectionate love poem written by Lana Del Rey. The death of a loved one and witnessing death will only make you cherish the remaining time and the people in front of you. Lana thought, Jack Donoghue would be The one who accompanies her until the end. Here be with you and Donoghue's trisyllabic and final rhyme fit so well, and the moment she sings his last name is the most soulful tone I've ever heard Lana in her career. Outro's vocal really perfectly expresses the golden shimmer, and even a slightly torn sound in the part of singing Ah reproduces this skill intentionally or unintentionally. These two songs, in my opinion, are a new romantic peak in Lana's career. As a digression, because The Grant wrote about grandmother, the time calculation should also be written for Donoghue. I also listened to Jack Donoghue’s music carelessly before. He is the originator of the experimental music school witch house. He himself is a producer + rapper. In this album Lana has two rap songs for the first time, which shows the influence of her boyfriend on her. Let the Light In, a collaboration with my friend Father John Misty (who I also like very much personally), can be said to be the sequel to Kintsugi, and Bridge is also very full of emotions. Lana thinks about what is the most precious memory because of the death around her, and the other side is forgetting. Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd is a song about forgetting. Under Ocean Avenue, there is an unfinished tunnel. No matter how exquisitely decorated the craftsmen are, it will always be sealed underground. On the surface, this song should be written for ex-boyfriends. The only two promotions for the album were selected at the addresses of the two ex-boyfriends. The shout here is not to forget me, and the surface layer is nostalgia for old love. Harry Nilsson, who appears in this song, I think can be said to be the singer closest to Lana's aesthetic except Billie Holliday. LDR's nostalgia for the golden age of America is an eternal theme throughout his artistic career. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. One of the best albums of 2023. The story telling is just amazing- how it's like a real tunnel, going from the start, to entering the tunnel, to being in the darkest part in the middle, and then exiting a new person. Kintsugi and Fingertips are such sad songs, I can barely get through them without crying. And then ending the album off with the iconic, "bang bang, kiss kiss" line from Venice **** just felt so heavenly. Rating this album a 10/10 does not even come close to describing how amazing this album truly is to me. This is one of Lana's best works and I am very excited for her next album. Expand

Longest name to an album ever? Might be. Nevertheless this album is a collection of Lana's deepest and most honest feelings that she would probably only would be able to express through songwriting, and she did it marvelously. Her vocals are superb, even better than her previous works. The songwriting is great and some lyrics cut really deep once you realize their meaning and power. VeryLongest name to an album ever? The album is cohesive (apart from the interludes which did not connect for me), and very Lana's style overall, you feel the effort to make a very specific album with a very singular concept.
The reason I gave an 8 and not a 10, is that some songs made me feel too uncomfortable due to the quiet production and this mystical voice Lana has , I did not understand the need to include these weird interludes, maybe it's just me but I did not like it, and would prefer the album to be smoother. Some songs were just boring, and that I will probably not listen to some of the album's tracks again, though I appreciate and value the concept and effort to make this record, which I'm sure a lot of people would love and connect to.

Lana has always been phenomenal and innovative: first, with introducing melancholy to the pop industry, now with releasing a personal 78-minute long album with haunting atmosphere and still being able to hit the charts even greater than 'NFR!'. This proves how real art wins, and I'm totally impressed at Lana's maturity in songwriting and thoughtfulness of 'DYKTTATUOB'. Every song just makes you feel beautiful. My personal issue is that as a non-native English speaker, understanding lyrics was really tough, so before actually reading them, I could only experience the sound of this album, which is, to be honest, very minimalist and repetitive. It was so hard not to fall asleep to it on the first listen without listening attentively to the stories on this album. After diving deeply into the lyrical side, I revisited this album and it opened up from the other side to me. I still can't enjoy the full album, which is really long, but I absolutely love the most parts of it. The Song of the Year will be Lana's! Expand

This is nothing far from what Lana Del Rey usually is. It has never been bad, but it is a little frustrating that it doesn't get any better than this. She masters her lyrics as a true extension of her body, but her poems, thoughts and reflections stay in a neutral and heavy ground without a production that actually makes all of this feels like music all together.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Lana has done it again with another masterpiece. While some might say that this album was bland or boring, its actually the exact opposite. Del Rey mixed R&B,Trap and Piano Ballads together. I don't see anything bland or boring about that. Songs like Peppers,Fishtail,A&W and Taco Truck x VB are for the people who enjoy trap and R&B sounds. Paris Texas, Candy Necklace and Fingertips is for people who enjoy songs that you can just vibe to and listen in the car. Margaret,The Grants,Grandfather Please and Let The Light in is for people who enjoy Heavy ballads and Title Track,Sweet and Kintsugi is for people who enjoy more soft ballads. All of the songs have great diversity and the interludes are perfect. The reason I deducted 1 point is that for all of the hype, this album was a bit underwhelming. Songs like Kintsugi and Taco Truck x VB didn't have good production. Overall, this album was a great listen to and definitely one of Lana's best projects. Romaticizing harsh topics. Lana her new album is an emotional rollercoaster carried by beautiful piano guitar and drums. She also dips into some trip-hop-ish styles. It doesnt feel out of place its rather an award for the very emotional and heavy previous part of the album. The last three songs are just Lana having fun and doing what she wants to do and not giving a f*ck. The beginning of the album deals with lust, and death. In A&W she talks about how she can never enjoy casual s*xual without being called a wh*re and being told she enjoys it. Which brings it back to her older critics "she is romanticizing ab*se" which she was clearly not. In her song Kintsugi she details that you just need to lisent to what she is saying and not take it at face value. She also says that she isnt a made up a persona, she is lizzy and she is Lana. In this album she addressed all teh critiques and she basically said "Im gonna do what i want to do". What she also detailed in Fingertips "I just need two seconds to breath". Those two seconds is this album. An amazing 2 seconds. This is a pure masterpiece, album of the year and maybe even the best album in forever. Expand

In this album we can see the persona of Lana Del Rey entering the tunnel of her painful memories and her affectionate memories. At the beginning, she will show her feelings in the experiences of the last years. After an epic, satirical A&W, we hear an interlude of a pastor preaching the 8th psalm with chilling fervor, as he realizes his preaching turns back to his own life and Lana is amused to see the critics and realize that not even the Creator is perfect, but he can create perfect works. The interlude is an allegory for how critics have always seen Lana as flawed, which she's always admitted she is, and how they've seen her create a universal work: Norman **** Rockwell.
After that, Lana introduces us little by little to her past, with her unstable romances in Candy Necklace, a beautiful ballad that makes us travel back in time. Coming to Jon Batiste's interlude, I feel that the feeling of reproducing a work can be worth as much as a verbose interpretation. Knowing this, we get to the deepest and most intimate of the person behind the Lana Del Rey persona: Elizabeth Grant. Kintsugi is the opening to Elizabeth's mind, through its cracks and how there is still such a light inside. Fingertips takes us even deeper into this, Elizabeth is stripped of her persona, in order to show us her most painful scars. Two tracks that cause enormous discomfort, as it is not at all pleasant to show the ugly side of humanity. In doing so, Lana takes her leave so that Elizabeth can continue through the tunnel despite everything. After half an album and an era are over, we arrive at the earthly paradise that Elizabeth always dreamed of - and sang about. Paris, Texas takes us to the most beautiful, innocent and sweet places on Earth, with a unique delicacy. The following track is the epitome of Elizabeth's spirituality. And with majestic singing, she reveals her love, hope and good intentions for the beautiful side of humanity. Let The Light In is an ode to Elizabeth's wild and heartfelt love. Margaret is a beautiful tribute to lovers. Fishtail is the moment when the lyrical self comes to its senses and can no longer bear the suffering or humiliation that its past sends it, ready to leave the tunnel. Peppers is the representation of The final sequence may seem out of place, but it is Elizabeth perceiving the movement that the new world awaits her when she comes out of the tunnel and how her achievements resonate through the new reality that she helped to build with her work.

sou muito fã das músicas da lana, ela sempre se supera nas letras, as melodias são super cativantes, o álbum todo é muito cinematográfico, me sinto dentro de um filme francês, minhas favoritas são candy necklace e parix, texas. An album rich in instrumentals but that can sometimes become repetitive and monotonous. Many songs manage to stand out within the album and make its aesthetic stronger. It's not a bad album it's just another level album by Lana Del Rey that probably doesn't suit all types of people but that pleases a good part of the singer's audience

Overall, Ocean Blvd is simply about family, the altual one as well as the one to come. The album is full of many musical surprises, such as the harder-sounding A&W or Peppers, to which you immediately feel like dancing. There are also many beautiful ballads, such as Paris, Texas Candy Necklace or Kintsugi, at which it's hard not to shed a tear. The album closes with Taco Truck x VB, which features a remixed version of Venice **** which perfectly sums up the work that Lana has created. I fell in love with this project, and I can already say that this is one of Lana's best, if not the best album. Expand

A beautiful record, and perhaps Lana's first challenging listen. Despite some sweeping, gorgeous moments, the track list feels a bit messy. The songs at the end, especially Fishtail and Peppers, should have been worked in earlier in the album, to break up some of the soft/quiet monotony of ballad after ballad. The Judah Smith interlude serves this purpose now, but is superfluous; if it had been 1 minute long, maybe it wouldn't feel so offensive, but at over 4 minutes it's a delete/skip for me; I don't need to be yelled at by a preacher. The songs surrounding it, however, are pretty amazing. A&W is one of her best songs, and Candy Necklace is a creeping, at times dissonant, grower of a song, needing a few listens to truly open up. Paris, Texas is cinematic and gorgeous, as is Grandfather, a track in which she (finally?) responds to accusations that she's a manufactured pop star (though I think it's safe to say those accusations ceased at some point in the last decade.) Other highlights include opener The Grants and Kintsugi. As Lana's ninth (or arguably TWELFTH) album, it's impressive that she's still creating these cultural touchstones and pushing into new directions, mining more deeply into her soul and sharing her melancholy without as much sugar-coating as before. And she's still having some fun, subverting expectations and making callbacks to her own past work. My hope is that her future work is a little less bloated and a little more cohesive than this, but still, this is a gorgeous achievement. Expand

Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd is a 16-track, 78-minute album, and some of it will lose even her most ardent fans. Track eight is where it regains itself through the extended metaphor of “Kintsugi”: a Japanese term for a pottery repair technique that calls attention to the crack rather than hides it. .... [After “Margaret”] There are three more tracks, though.
