This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It’s not my favorite album however it clearly sounds good to majority of people I know. Sheeran has been creative with an mix of music styles as seen in multiply (e.g., don’t, thinking out loud, bloodstream, etc) but divide takes an interesting path within same style, problaby leaning towards something less romantic, thought I not sure. To finish it’s hard to deny that “Dive” looks like a bored version of the Thinking out loud and Happier a version of the Stay With Me by Sam Smith. Expand

a collection of my least favourite radio tracks. nothing particularly revolutionary. it was - somewhat - fun, however, to see how the singles exploded.

Divide is not that fantastic but I must admit that it does have good iconic songs but as an album it leaves a little to be done

I've always admired Ed's talent for composing, but this album seems composed for a mediocre band or wedding singer. He's good but too overrated.

I would say that it is an average album that does not surprise much, there are several songs that save it as "Perfect" and "Shape of you" & Nancy Mulligan ". But" Bibia Be Ye Ye "is the most irritating song of the abum...

Melhor álbum dele, as influências de Folk trouxeram algo diferente para o pop de 2017. Sem dúvidas um dos álbuns da década.

Great album, with irish and british mixed songs, a lot of hits, songs with personal lyrics, it shouldn't be so massacred by the critic

I love these songs and I think that Ed did a very good job writing these songs. "Castle on the Hill" is also a good song. "Shape of You", in my opinion, is overrated. It has catchy beats, but the lyrics and the music video, is weird and cringe. It has repetitive lyrics, not very meaningful. Most of the songs on this album are cheesy and they sound like they are written for kids or cartoons. Expand

While still the same of Ed Sheeran, Divide is packed with pop gems like "Shape of You" and "Galway Girl" and is likely to boost Sheeran even farther into mainstream superiority.

It seems Adele and The Weeknd have influenced Sheeran by keeping their latest releases the same style.

Everyone should LOVE this album, since it is Ed Sheeran’s best work. I’m still blown away by it. Sheeran retained his lyrical creativity, as can be seen in more tracks than not, while still coming out with an evolved style of music. Divide is a little more poppy, and that part of it is fun. That being said, ÷ isn’t all pop. He continues his rappy style with Eraser and Galway Girl, and I’m not even sure how to classify Supermarket Flowers, besides that it nearly brought tears to my eyes, it was so beautiful. If you’re reading this review, you are probably thinking of something that I’m overlooking. Don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten about it: Shape of You. Absolutely awful. This song lowered ÷'s score enough so that it didn’t get a Perfect (haha) score. It’s a fun poppy song on the surface, but once you reach the chorus it becomes repetitive, annoying, and kind of a nasty song. Where was Sheeran’s creativity when writing this? I hope he doesn’t become primarily known for this song, especially when 94% of this album is fantastic. Sheeran’s album score keeps improving with each one he releases, so I’m really excited for Subtract when it comes out. Highlights: Eraser, Castle on the Hill, Dive, Perfect, Galway Girl, Happier, Hearts Don’t Break Around Here, What Do I Know, Supermarket Flowers, Barcelona, Bibia Be Ye Ye, Nancy Mulligan, and Save Myself.

At best, we have a middling collection of songs that are going to sound great in a packed arena. At worst, it’s a pretty significant step back from X, and once the initial novelty of its release wears off, it’s unlikely to enjoy the popular acclaim or the longevity of its predecessor.

As calculating as Sheeran can seem here, he understands there’s a fine line between universal and generic, which is why he gives his songs the idiosyncratic touches they need to stand out.
