Mar 31, 2022This metal album really has an old school thrash metal style, like Venom back in the days.
They managed to stay away from the modern/industrial metal sound and make an album that takes advantage of today's studio technologies.
For the metalheads this will clearly not be a revolution, but rather something "nice" to hear and enjoy as the creators surely wanted it to be.

Mar 25, 2022Dream Widow could’ve easily been a charming but disposable bit of marketing for Studio 666, or a throwaway pastiche of several legendary death and thrash metal groups. Fortunately, it transcends both of those possibilities to be a genuinely great record. The musicianship is expectedly superb, but what’s most commendable is Grohl’s ability to shift his voice from familiar grittiness to full guttural hegemony.

Mar 25, 2022Despite many of the songs not building on the promise of the opening track, there is a sense of playfulness to the proceedings. You can practically hear Grohl grinning throughout as he indulges in some thrash metal cosplay. Unfortunately, it sounds like Dream Widow was more fun to record than it is to listen to.

Mar 25, 2022All of this is very good. Even better for the fact that, even though it ties to the movie, it doesn't have much reason to exist beyond the sake of doing it. It's wild, off the cuff, youthful, over-excited, exactly how this stuff is meant to make you feel.
