The title track, a cover of the Bruce Springsteen track from "The River", is pristine and dare I say it, comes close to emulating the original thanks to the presence of Eddie Vedder. "Pennies in the Fountain" is a decent track that could easily have appeared on his album "Rhythm and Repose". Its a track that reminds me a bit of his buddy Mr Vedder's "Into The Wild" soundtrack. "Renata" could be a follow up to the The Frames song "What Happens When the Heart Just Stops", with a similar melody but with a slightly more upbeat feel. "Step Out of The Shadows" sounds like it could be another Springsteen cover from the Nebraska period but saying this is over complementing the song. A very solid offering from Mr Hansard overall. Now get back with The Frames and make some new music please. Expand

The result is a soulful reading that, driven by the sax of the Big Man’s nephew and exhibiting Henry’s characteristic resonant ambiance, ends up on a corner where the Boss and Van Morrison meet.

Hansard and company play it safe on the title cut... while the three original cuts, the evocative "Pennies in the Fountain," the soulful "Renata," and the empowering, completely a cappella "Step Out of the Shadows" should please fans of the Once star's 2012 solo debut, Rhythm and Repose.

This EP isn’t the best starting point for Hansard’s music, but for fans of Rhythm And Repose, it’s a welcome followup.
