Jun 7, 2022Overrated for all the right reasons . Instant icon. A great album that suffers from keeping a few songs that shouldn't be included and disrupting their own momentum in sequencing.

Dec 25, 2021Funeral in a unique and touching album that is perfection from start to finish. This has been a constant part of my playlist from the moment I first listened to it over a decade ago.
-
Aug 20, 2021Arcade Fire should run a candy store with this album. I feel spoiled listening to this. Fantastic debut album.
-
Jun 5, 2020Perfection. All the songs are amazing. win butlers vocal performance is just stunning, and the opening track is one of the best songs ever written.
-
Oct 3, 2018To be honest, it's hard for me to give any descriptors on how compelling and brilliant this LP is. Many are better than I am in describing this, though. And are there a lot of people that thing this LP is pure heaven. Which is true.
-
Aug 20, 2018Punk's energy and post-punk's sophistication at the same time which exhale beauty. Beautiful, intense and charming

Jan 29, 2018Arcade Fire's best. One of the greatest albums of the new millennium thus far.
-
Nov 20, 2017Безусловно удачный дебют канадской рок-группы.Энергетика и ритм всегда были и остаются главным плюсом Arcade Fire,что и отличает их от других инди-рок артистов.

Jun 29, 2017Not sure who I dislike more. The Fans saying this is the best band in the world (they are good but not especially influential or different.) or the people rating this low just because it's over-rated.
-
Mar 22, 2017A beautifully melancholic album. Just as it brings you down, it picks you back up again. Plenty of variety and a lot of memorable moments; easily one of the best albums in its genre.
-
Sep 4, 2016Love at first sight. I usually judge books by their title and albums by their cover. Since I first look at this I knew it would be great. And so it is and now I keep listening at it. I'm really involved in Crown of love but I honestly say that every single track is very enjoyable althought melancholic.
-
Aug 16, 2015Putting aside modern cliches in favor of inventing them, Arcade Fire join contemporaries such as the Strokes in defining the future of modern music. 9.5/10

Mar 11, 2015Lush, unique, beautiful, and has immediate replay value. One of the best albums of the 2000's, hands down. An absolute must-have for those who enjoy indie rock/alternative. It's a journey that can't be taken away.
-
Feb 4, 2015This is one of the greatest albums of all time. It explores childhood, love, death, and the crisis in Haiti. The 7 part band at times sounds more like an orchestra than a rock band.
-
Jan 22, 2015The very best album I have ever listened to. Period. The emotions, the heart of this music, it's like nothing I've ever listened to. If you don't own it already, you better buy it now. Like, now, right right now. Like, right this very second.
-
-
Aug 17, 2014A revolution, a monument and landmark, in the music industry. In all the aspects: songwriting, production, Funeral raises the bar for indie music, and for music as a whole.
-
Jul 23, 2014A truly masterpiece that shows beauty, style, passion and suffering better than any single other indie piece of work. A tremendously fantastic journey I would never like to get off of.
-
May 9, 2014As beautiful as this album is it thrives on its recurrent themes of a lost souls as it matches its title. It's stand out tracks are hard to identify Neighborhood #3 (Power Out), Rebellion, and Wake Up are anthems to indie tracks for days to remember. Funeral embarks on this wonderful story filled with sounds and silence.
-
May 1, 2014Arcade Fire has delivered us a perfect, relaxing masterpiece, that is unlike anything you will ever experience, with unforgettable, emotionally touching songs.
-
Apr 9, 2014Damn! What a great album. This really made a breakout in the music scene. After ''Funeral'' had come out, nothing was the same. All the album is built in order to reach ''Rebellion (lies)'', the masterpiece, THE song. Goosebumps. These are Arcade Fire. Great great album.

Nov 16, 2013Funeral is probably not my favourite Arcade Fire album, that honour would go to The Suburbs, but it is hauntingly brilliant nonetheless and a great introduction to one of the best bands around.
-
Nov 14, 2013
-
Nov 5, 2013While slightly overrated, Arcade Fire's debut full-length is a modern classic, forming a sound that many indie bands are still trying to recreate. It's the kind of album that appeals to hipsters, old people, and mainstream radio all at once, a very rare accomplishment in rock music.

-
Sep 5, 2013By far the best album of 2004 and arguably one of the best albums ever record. From the raw emotion of a young Win Butler to the talent of many multi-instrumental artists, this album is flawless. The perfect coming of age album.
-
Aug 24, 2013A stunning record, a brave new sound, with rich lyrical imagery and a hefty punch of an impact. The only downside is the occasional point where Butler's vocals get a little to anguished.
-
Aug 16, 2013A very solid album that unfortunately is very overcelebrated. It has a lot of lovely moments but it just pales in comparison to other similar albums (The Glow Pt 2, ITAOTS)
-
Jun 25, 2013Quite possibly the best album of the decade. The themes and lyrics are unparalleled and equate to one of the most affecting, and life-affirming debut records of all time. 9.8

Apr 13, 2013Although this genre its not my cup of tea; i must admit IT IS a masterpiece, and im sure if i liked more this type of music; id be my favorite album ever; 10 songs, 10 perfect melodies.
-
Jan 21, 2013Simply a fantastic album. It is lyrically and musically deep. It also sports a wide variety of sounds. That's all that has to be said. I would highly recommend this album.

Dec 25, 2012By far (and hands down) the greatest Indie Rock album currently out there. Such diversity is poured into a fine, magnificent masterpiece like this to show the world that you truly don't have to be born to write and sing music, but learn along the way to pick up these great strenghs in the music world.

Sep 27, 2012This is probably one of the best albums of the last decade. Arcade Fire is definitely my favorite band, and trust me, you won't regret listening to their incredible debut, which is one of the best I've ever listened to. It is truly the modern day Sgt. Peppers, at least in my opinion.
-
Aug 1, 2012I still listen to this at least once a week. Top to bottom, it really is damn close to a perfect album. Neighborhood #2 (Laïka) has always been my favorite track.
-
Jul 9, 2012I would give any of Arcade Fire's albums 10's in a heartbeat. Yes, some people say they aren't the best singers but that doesn't matter. Being a good singer isn't always what matters. They just put so much heart into their songs and every song is distinct and catchy. Win's (yes the main singer's name is Win) voice is powerful and the melodies are so intricate.
-
Jun 23, 2012One of the greatest albums I've ever listened to.It contains many great songs such as "Rebellion(Lies),Neighborhood 1,2,3, Haiti, and my favourite "Wake up".It is a must-listen for everyone.
-
Jun 10, 2012Terrific album!!! When I first listen to this (I was 11 years old), I've never listen to something like this. Indie rock first knock on my door: and it was great!!! Beautiful songs, funny but amazing lyrics (I always sing when I listen to the songs) . And who said Win Butler is not a great singer? He fits perfectly in the songs. Who you were expecting to sing? Franky? Tony? C'mon!!
-
Mar 19, 2012This album is amazing. Every time I listen, I get something new from it. The lyrics, the music, the vocals all go together perfectly to form something truly beautiful.

Nov 29, 2011While the album is nearly perfectly. The vocal quality does suffer on a few tracks and makes the lyrics of the song nearly non-understandable. However the album is just so good that you can over look this, Its simply a master piece.
-
Nov 22, 2011this album is stunning. by inventing a new indie genre, arcade fire produced one of the best albums of all time, and each song is a classic. the thematics of hostility, friendship and family are amazing executed throughout this piece of music. this is a crucial listen for any fan of indie music and those would search for realistic meaning in songs.
-
Nov 14, 2011Will end up being one of the best albums you have ever heard. Its rare when a band comes out with an original sound and it completely blows your mind, Arcade Fire does that with Funeral. The only bad part about this album is that the vocal quality isnt always the best on some tracks - Other then that its a masterpiece.
-
Nov 8, 2011A great record with songs that are unforgettable and emotionally moving. They kind of paved the way for indie bands being recognized on a worldwide level.
-
Oct 27, 2011One of the best albums of the 2000s. There are no bad songs on this album. Possibly one of the best debut albums released. Really not much to say, just too good.
-

-
Jul 22, 2011One of my favorite albums of all time. It's best known for doing some seriously heavy lifting in the emotional department, but great melodies and fun songs like "Neighborhood #3 (Power Out)" and "Rebellion (Lies)" keep it from collapsing under its own weight, which makes songs like "Wake Up" all the more powerful.
-
Jul 4, 2011it was good. this album isn't a personal favorite of mine. but i love their 2 other albums better. but this album is still very good. i liked it. the end of the album gives you their best songs.
-

-
May 25, 2011Hands down, the best post-millennial indie album to date. They have an uncanny ability to oversaturate their music with emotion, allowing little pockets of raw emotion to sit deliciously on the listeners tongue as the listener drinks their metaphorical concoction.
-
May 16, 2011This is an astounding album, especially for a debut album... all the songs are amazingly written, with Mount Everest high points in songs such as Neighbourhood #1, Wake Up, Haiti, Rebellion and In The Backseat.

Nov 2, 2010A masterpiece, of of the best albums of the 2000s, I love just about every single song and wish the magic this album has could be repeated again in their newer work but that is something impossible and I realize that now.
-
Oct 27, 2010I would say that this is the best indie album ever, but in the meantime The Suburbs came out. So, Funeral is second best, but it is brilliant! Few words about singer: he is singing his music, no one could do it better that him...
-
Oct 13, 2010marvelous. marvelous and sad feelings, near of the nostalgia. Feelings... well that's it, that's what make a song a good song, a good album one and why i loved it even tough it make me a little sad and i can't listen to it non-stop.
a 10 on 10 -
Sep 20, 2010The most powerful, creative, original and thought provoking albums out there and probably the best band in the world right now. Sometimes it's messy, sometimes it's clean but you cannot deny its sheer ability to completely submit you into a complete, chaotic bliss.

Sep 8, 2010Such a great album. The Neighborhood 1-4 are such an interesting and unique style of music and perfectly set the tone for such an extraordinary set of songs. Rebellion is so seemingly happy and catchy, and Wake Up makes you want to just run away into your own little happy place (yes, i thought this BEFORE seeing the Where the Wild Things Are trailer/film)... Its impossible not to smile.
-
Aug 25, 2010Greatest album of the 00's. Beautiful, gorgeous amazing. If you don't like this album, you probably don't have a soul, just saying. Every song, every moment, grows and fills you with so much vehement. It's amazing.
-
Aug 24, 2010possibly the best band i've heard i a while. Funeral is their best album too. understand?
-
Aug 13, 2010Best album of the decade, haven't heard an album as good as this one, since Is This It.
-
Aug 11, 2010Funeral is such a perfectly crafted album. Anyone who considers themselves well listened has to have this album in their collection. It is easily one of the best albums of all time.

-
-
ThibaultCDec 15, 2008Maybe the true mile stone of 00's indie pop, a instant shadow/light deeply original masterpiece. Melancoly and mourning merges with intense orchestral joie de vivre, all the drama of being human in a disc.

-
carlosdDec 26, 2007Yes, this CD has a lot of great moments, but there are some duds too. And why have so few people noticed how old and unoriginal the chord progressions are? If you want to check out Canada's best indie (whatever that means now) bands, try the Weakerthans and the New Pornographers.
-
-
DavidF.Dec 5, 2007The only negative thing I could say about this album is that all my favorite songs on it sound fairly similar. Probably one of my 20 favorite albums. I was on the fence about whether it was a "9" or "10." It's not Zen Arcade, I can't rate that record.

Awards & Rankings
-
If I were to have just heard the first half of the disc, I probably would have proclaimed it the best of the year as well.
-
So long as we're unable or unwilling to fully recognize the healing aspect of embracing honest emotion in popular music, we will always approach the sincerity of an album like Funeral from a clinical distance. Still, that it's so easy to embrace this album's operatic proclamation of love and redemption speaks to the scope of The Arcade Fire's vision.
-
Marred by indie-rock clichés and occasional over-effort, it remains frustrating.
