An emotionally driven album with lyrics hitting your chest before your mind. The electronic melodies and Kesha's voice make this album one of the strongest releases. From ''Something to Believe in'' to ''Only love can save us now'' Gag Order captivates the audience with a powerful experience—Raw, and full of emotions.

Kesha has matured so artistically and the lyrics are deep. The transitions from one track to another are very good. Gag Order is a journey of anguish and sadness and also a cry of happiness and freedom.

Despite the album seeming a bit chaotic at times, the totality of the record nevertheless culminates in a highly cohesive listen. While the entirety of the record is undeniably strong, the following tracks are immediate highlights: “Eat The Acid,” “All I Need is You,” and “Only Love Can Save Us Now,” with the latter being a perfect marriage of Kesha’s sound pre- and post-Dr. Luke, combined with a highly infectious, gospel-backed chorus that appears perfect for radio.

Tracks like “Fine Line,” “Hate Me Harder,” and “Happy” are also extremely powerful. Highly recommend.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. One of the most beautiful and genuine albums I’ve heard in a long time. Kesha really showcases her talent and versatility with this one. I would say that this is an experimental sound, and it’s not like anything we’ve seen from her. It’s almost like she created a brand new genre of Post-Pop music.
She’s addressed some of the serious issues she’s been dealing with on her old albums, but never like this. She is tired of being silenced and you can tell.

    Baby, That's My Freedom!

Rainbow is the album that sold me on Kesha. I wasn't really on board for the ironic, trashy party thing when her first two albums dropped. I've since come around on the whole package. I "get" what she was going for now. But it all comes out here. This is a masterful, thematically consistent stream of personal honesty and inner conflict. Only Love Can Save Us Now is probably her best song. It perfectly encapsulates the dichotomy of pleasure and pain, party girl and spiritual seeker, drama queen and enlightened soul. It's god and the devil. It's light and dark. And it bops.

The bops are few and far between on this album. Which I might consider a flaw if it all weren't so damned compelling. Eat the Acid is a wonderfully psychedelic experience that I would love to listen to under the influence, myself. Fine Line makes me really think about how we use art to both express and capitalize on pain. The Drama is a whole emotional rollercoaster, bringing us to the realest thing I've ever heard, "in the next life I wanna come back as a housecat" (and I appreciate the Ramones quoting in the background).

Rick Rubin really let her go off on every tangent she thought of, and the result (as is typical of Rubin's work) is the purest expression of Kesha's true self that we've gotten out of her discography. The experimental editing, vocal layering, and asymmetrical song structures really serve to turn up the volume on Kesha's distinct personality.

Hate Me Harder and Happy are a great closing pair of songs. Wrapping the whole thing up in a desire to make one's pain MEAN something, as there is no undoing it. Ultimately we all just want to be happy.

Never has Kesha's music felt this inspiringly rich. It has all the potential of once again making her a staple on the music scene, and this time even beyond pop.

Angry and disturbing lyrics of this caliber would signify liberation for any other female artist. But it’s never been more evident than it is on Gag Order that Kesha is not a free woman. This makes it all the more difficult to enjoy Gag Order for what it is when there’s a blaring undercurrent that’s hard to ignore.

Though interludes from the late guru Ram Dass feel a little hokey, overall Gag Order is polished, powerful and affirming.
