Bastille delivers a couple flashes in the pan on this one, and although cohesive in it's subject matter, it felt like they took the worst sounds from their previous works and used that to make a mediocre pop piece. It's dissociation from it's traditional audience reflects perfectly on the dissociation the album haphazardly tries to portray. The COVID-centric lyrical social commentary featured front and center on Bastille's pandemic-inspired latest isn't really anything that hasn't already been said far better by various other artists, but with regard to moment-to-moment musical thrill "Give Me the Future" certainly delivers, with epic yet delicately crafted soundscapes combining swirling synths and twinkling guitars to great effect.

It's up there with some of Bastille's best work. The familiar choral voices we associate with their music is still there, with deep basslines and radio-friendly pop throughout. The album itself is akin to a movie soundtrack, with its thought-provoking lyrics, and really highlights how familiar this album is to their earlier music, but with evident improvements in skill and risk-takingIt's up there with some of Bastille's best work. It's a masterpiece. Unique, fun, wonderful transitions and a amazing futuristic vibe. Lots of books, and movies references.

Equal parts hopeful and nihilistic, full of pop culture references and instrumentals so fun it takes a few listens to realize some of the lyrics are quite depressing…Yup, it’s a quintessential Bastille album. Really enjoying this sound from them.

Fun, frenetic, and realized. Bastille understands their place in pop. They know how to have epic scope, while never sacrificing their humanity and intimacy. While this album is a barely long enough that it isn’t an EP, it still satisfies and has barely any bloat. While “Wild World” is still my favorite of their works, this is another feather in their cap and exciting to hear them be aFun, frenetic, and realized. Bastille understands their place in pop. While “Wild World” is still my favorite of their works, this is another feather in their cap and exciting to hear them be a little more fearless with their sound. Doom Days had to grow on me and had a good amount of tracks, but suffered from too many aimless tracks. My hope is they ride this momentum and expand their sound further on a future longer LP. Expand

Give Me the Future is almost perverse in its inability or unwillingness to develop its premise beyond the most basic and obvious elements.

At times Give Me the Future feels a bit heavy-handed. Fortunately, the album's brisk pace saves it from feeling overblown. This is music for and of its moment, with a mix of ambition and pop concision that's unmistakably Bastille.

There’s everything from glitchy pop, dance tracks and emo rock on this album, but a key message, Smith’s unique vocals, and a tendency towards electronic earworms, make it a sonically cohesive work that has just the perfect touch of modern life to make us feel something, but with enough escapism that we don’t burn out from it.
