The brilliance of this album cannot be overstated. We’re back in the 90s and 2000s and God do I love it. This is what pop albums used to sound like. But it’s not just nostalgic, wonderfully angsty pop-punk/pop-rock. It’s also folk (“lacy”) and New Wave (“pretty isn’t pretty”). You hear elements of Taylor, Avril, P!nk, early Katy, Sara Bareilles, Hole.

Olivia Rodrigo's new album "GUTS" is an absolute gem that seamlessly blends catchy melodies with profound emotions. The dreamy, rock-infused soundscapes within this album are nothing short of captivating, drawing the audience into Olivia's world of insecurities, heartbreaks, and betrayal.

With "GUTS," Olivia Rodrigo continues to establish herself as the voice of Generation Z. Her ability to convey the raw emotions of her generation is simply unparalleled. Each track on this album serves an authentic dose of relatability that's often missing in today's music industry.

What makes "GUTS" stand out is its fearless approach to addressing themes of vulnerability and self-discovery. Olivia doesn't hold back; she lays it all on the line, and that sincerity resonates deeply with listeners. The magnitude of emotion in this album is unmatched, making it an unforgettable musical journey.

In a world where music often follows formulaic trends, "GUTS" dares to be different. It's a testament to Olivia Rodrigo's artistic prowess and her ability to connect with her audience on a profound level. This album is a must-listen, and it cements Olivia Rodrigo's place as a trailblazing artist in today's music landscape.

this album is actually a masterpiece. the angsty and raw songwriting isn't cringe, as some people claim, this kind of art is great for teens like Olivia herself. she's spilling her guts in a way that is so theatrical and exaggerated, in some ways this album feels like the superb soundtrack of an iconic 2000s movie, it is sonically and lyrically cohesive. 10/10 album.

I still find myself going back to that album and recalling what a pop rock phonomen that album was. Even at it's slower moments it hit hard with it's deep cutting lyrics. It's really crazy to think that I grew up with Olivia, I remember being 14 years old in my room when I heard Sour for the first time, that whirlwind of feelings about identifying with each piece of writing, crying listening to dejavu, being euphoric listening brutal.
And now after years I have the chance to hear another sonically incredible work.
Guts is a milestone, completely different

I think it's a pretty good album, it reminds me a lot of the 2000's and that's incredible. Olivia Rodrigo seems to me a versatile artist who is still looking for her style and I think she is doing very well, I have the album in repetition all the time, I love all american **** or making the bed, they are quite different but very good

This album sounds less mature than Sour and there is way too much of her just speaking the words. I was really hoping for the quality vocals I heard on songs such as Traitor or Driver's License. It seems like the expectation proceeded her.

Olivia Rodrigo's sophomore album, GUTS, is a bold and ambitious step forward from her critically acclaimed debut, Sour. The album is a more mature and experimental exploration of Rodrigo's songwriting, with a heavier focus on rock and pop-punk influences.

At first listen, GUTS may not grab you in the same way that Sour did. The songs are more complex and less immediately catchy, and the album's overall tone is darker and more introspective. However, with repeated listens, GUTS reveals itself to be a truly special album. The songs are well-crafted and emotionally resonant, and Rodrigo's vocals are powerful and expressive.

One of the things that makes GUTS so special is its honesty. Rodrigo doesn't shy away from exploring difficult topics, such as heartbreak, betrayal, and self-doubt. She sings with raw vulnerability, and her lyrics are both relatable and thought-provoking.

The album's sound is also a departure from Sour. The guitars are louder and more distorted, and the drums are more aggressive. This gives the album a more visceral and energetic feel. However, the album still retains some of the sweetness and tenderness of Sour, thanks to Rodrigo's vocals and the occasional use of softer instrumentation.

Overall, GUTS is a remarkable album that shows Olivia Rodrigo's growth as an artist. It is a more mature and complex work than Sour, but it is also just as emotionally powerful. GUTS is sure to become a classic, and it is the best sophomore album in a long time.

I highly recommend GUTS to anyone who is a fan of Olivia Rodrigo or pop-punk music in general. It is an album that will stay with you long after you've listened to it.

Olivia just got out of the the stage in life where you think you know everything and have it all under control, and got into the stage where you basically know nothing... that forced her to mature up and be more open towards fields she hasn't played in before.

The songwriting on this album is such a step up from Olivia's debut album, SOUR.
The honesty and rawness is impeccable, the small references to her past / general pop cloture references are so clever and perfectly and seamlessly inserted into the songs.
She smartened up, she studied and learned a lot, and it simply shows all over her new music, adding so many layers of emotions and creativity.
With that being said, there are a bit too many repetitions of lyrics in some songs, which seemed unnecessary and avoidable.

The production is great, but I wish there'd be more diversity, because some songs sounds a bit similar to each other.

'GUTS' is a great sophomore album by this very talented girl, feels like a big, cleverer sister to 'SOUR'.
    Key-word 'GROWTH'.

Favorite Tracks: 'vampire', 'ballad oh a homeschooled girl', 'making the bed', 'get him back!', 'teenage dream'.

We can see Olivia’s incredible talent through her new album “GUTS”. She really knows how to describe teenagers’ thoughts. “Bad idea, right?” would be the best track in this album, with great drum beats, which really makes me think of New Wave music in the 1990’s.

The songwriting in this album was childish and immature. I listened to the entire album several times to see if it would grow on me but none of the songs are memorable. They have no distinctive sound, they are all just loud. The only song that stands out is Lacy.

First of all, I really wanted Olivia to switch to this genre, but in her terms. A really bold album. Considering that we aren't in a scene where Rock/Punkish albums rule the world like in the early 2000s. It feels edgy in a positive sense. It sounds like a classic record.

I think it’s a fantastic album overall, it captures EXACTLY what that genre is supposed to be. Why not a 10/10? I don’t know actually, i feel some songs could have been better in some little ways, but you know.. a 9/10 is also a GREAT score, it is almost perfect. I have like 7 favourite songs. Generally a good sophomore album from Olivia, she continues to show her growth in her sound and dabbling into new genres. However, some of the rock influences sound repetitive throughout the album, which could have been done better. My favourites are making the bed, the grudge, and teenage dream.

However, GUTS was filled with so many pop/punk/rock songs like All American **** love is embarrassing, get him back, etc. It also balanced the album out with ballads like lacy, making the bed, teenage dream, etc. I think her performance was amazing because her voice just fits well with punk and rock. I think she has matured a lot from sour and was able to bring her amazing songwriting with her to this album. I also like how she was about to be a little silly with some of the lyrics like "every guy I like is gay" and "I want to kiss his face with an uppercut". This album is a 10/10 and a no-skip album. Love it or hate it, this album is an evolution from SOUR, if you want an album with 6 boring ballads that two years later I find those 6 songs hard to comeback to, then SOUR is the album for you. This isn’t a full blown attack on SOUR because I think it’s a solid debut effort, but the stakes on GUTS are raised. If you’re basic and cannot handle electric guitars and some vocal growling then this album isn’t for you about 60% of the time. While there are some cues from Avril I find 90s alternative rock (something the critics love by the way, which is the REAL reason it’s been mostly praised.) to be the biggest influence. The opener “all-american **** is where the Avril Lavigne influence is most strongly felt, opening with a light and airy verse reminiscent of folk-pop, before blasting into a raging ****y chorus. Another highlight is “get him back!” which serves as a piece of highly catchy indie pop rock perfection. And even if you’re attached to SOUR brand of tedious piano ballads, cuts like logical and the grudge will scratch that itch. Overall a near perfect follow-up album to one of the most impressive debuts by a mainstream artist in recent memory.

“Teenage Dream” recycles a song title of Katy Perry’s and echoes a twisty-turny melody of Lana Del Rey’s. Yet Rodrigo’s emotional presence is so strong throughout “Guts” — so believable even at its most unrelatable — that you never lose the sense of a specific young person navigating a trial of her own making.
