I think fans of MCR will be alienated at a first listen to this album. Which is a shame, because they will not be able to appreciate this garage rock/Brit-pop/pop punk, wonderfully executed debut solo album!

Gerard Way takes what was great about MCR and turns it into a brighter direction , great album , great songs and great variety. Excited to see the artist grow and learn from his past work

A perfect transition from My Chemical Romance into more mature territory.
The songs on Hesitant Alien aren't all great and some are much less interesting than others. But all contain the same Brit Pop feel which gives the album something very special.

I like the pop/indie feel he gives, and although I'm a killjoy, he doesn't disappoint with the rock part of the album. It isn't perfect, but it was a good effort for a solo album.

Gerard Way mixes post-emo, britpop and alt-rock to create a very consistent album

This album is not really a far cry from MCR. Sure, it's a little fuzzier, but the same energy and rock and roll vibe is there. His voice hasn't lost its power or uniqueness, and it's still pretty damn hardcore.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

Pontos altíssimos: Brother, How It's Going To Be, Maya The Psych
Ponto baixo: Get The Gang Togheter

This album is absurdly in the red with ear-loading fuzz as Oasis at their most cocaine-blitzed. [Nov 2014, p.96]

"Hesitant" is the right word for his attempt at creative rebirth. [Nov 2014, p.92]
  3. Within its contents the album very much feels like the debut record from a solo artist trying to feel things out on his own as a songwriter.
