Producing it must’ve been a huge job, the result is more than worth it. Higgledy Piggledy is brilliantly weird, packed full of ideas and sounds. It is a record you could spend a lifetime dissecting, yet still never get bored of.

Admirably obtuse, Slug put the odd into prog odyssey with style. [Jun 2018, p.93]

Black balances his pop leanings and prog inclinations well throughout the record, never tipping too far in one direction or the other, and always making music that is pleasing to both the part of the brain that wants to think and the part that wants to feel.

It's hugely impressive stuff, and in the midst of all the musical pyrotechnics, there's still room for standout melodies. [Jun 2018, p.114]

Sometimes this nomadic approach produces some sublime pop, but more often the results are erratic--odd even--but never dull. [May 2018, p.33]

Slug at their very best are a live band, so I’ll take this album as a warm-up.
