I came across this album through a recommendation from someone who is a real indie pop aficionado. The first thing I noticed was 24 tracks in slightly over 41 minutes. This kind of information usually sets of alarm bells for me as I will question what exactly the artist is trying to achieve by doing this. It is easy to suspect this is a result of under developed and undercooked ideas.I came across this album through a recommendation from someone who is a real indie pop aficionado. It is easy to suspect this is a result of under developed and undercooked ideas. While this idea can't be completely dismissed, it is more a result of 2nd Grade's dedication to pure pop. The title "Hit to Hit" is a nod in itself to the traditional foundations of the genre. The band this reminds me most of is "Guided By Voices" with its lo-fi feel, fabulous pop hooks and general brevity with a tendency to move on from an idea rather than develop it. 2nd Grade also share that outfits habit of ignoring quality control and leaving a few duds in their tracklisting. If you like your bubblegum or power pop and dig lo-fi stuff, this is well worth checking out. "Hit to Hit" is quite a fun listen and has some excellent stuff but there is a huge sense of the potential opportunity of a classic album being missed here with the approach taken. The track "Velodrome" and "My Bike" are good adverts for the album. Expand

It all adds up to a fun meander to help you waste away a summer afternoon.

Hit to Hit has the same kind of variety and possibly the same sort of underlying cohesiveness [as Bee Thousand] that will reveal itself over lots of plays. I look forward, anyway, to trying. You couldn’t ask for a better summer record.

The record may be 24 tracks long, but it is delivered at such a speed that it packs its punches long before the ice in your drink has a chance to melt.
