Brilliantly abrasive, Charli XCX deftly expresses herself in this experimental and rich-sounding project. The high ends of this album delivers a glittery and messy party that pairs nicely with the anthemic and disruptive lows. Charli is an indispensable musical talent, and it shows in her most deconstructed and emotive work yet.

This is my favorite album of all time. I love the hyperpop sound. It is so unique to Charli XCX and she does it so well. There isn't a single skip for me and I listen to this album on a weekly basis lol.

I have to admit that listening to Charli or PC Music is not for everyone. It takes some time to get the essence of every album. How Im Feeling now its very personal, and Charli reveals a fragile side of her. What I love the most is the experimentation, and how artists dont give a damn to create something pleaseble or consumable. Its art, deal with it

While not life-altering, how i’m feeling now is fun, fast and thoroughly listenable. It’s absorbing as a document from a strange period, and its diaristic, vloggy aspects provide an intriguing peek into artistry under pressure.

Electronic pop nonsense. Decent but nothing special, although sonically the production is better than many, many pop albums.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Frankly speaking, “how i’m feeling now” became my reference point for listening to the hyperpop stuff. This album has already changed my worldview because of its independence, uniqueness, frivolity and exceptionalism. This artwork encompasses almost all problems that the modern humanity faces when the crisis usually starts: love, hate, the problem of our future, the meaning of art, its destiny, the culture of consumerism and etc. The glimpse of all those questions is reflected in every single song of the album.
Surely, this album is actually about 2020 when everyone has been sitting at home for a year straight without any serious contacts with anyone outside.
The bad side of the quarantine is perfectly shown in the song called “Anthems”. The name, i reckon, is not accidental. This is the hymn of 2020. The loud, toxic, hypertrophic atmosphere of the track makes us want to dance, feel the difficulties of being isolated from everyone. It is one of the most inspiring compositions in HIMFN.
Except dancing songs there are plenty of compositions that are urged to demonstrate the power of the cybernetic future and the futurism itself. “Claws” is the track that made me feel supremely thrilled for the first time in a while. The “spherical” autotune chorus transfers you into another dimension, the sound makes your bones “levitate” and your brain overwhelm. The harmony Charli creates in the beginning rapidly becomes chaotic. The end of the track represents the chaos that always follows the harmony within our society.
But there are songs that are not impressive enough for me. For instance, “forever” uses some weird noises in the background to construct the atmosphere of “losing the signals”. Of course, the lyrics and the meaning of the song are quite harmonious and eloquent, but those noises actually spoil all the emotions you get from the song. C2.0 is another song that made me quite furious in the first place. But after listening to it a couple of times I “finally understand” why Charli uses those pretty annoying sounds. C.2.0 tries to convince us that every single chaos is capable of being overcome. Even if you don’t see the perfection in the beginning it doesn’t mean that the perfection doesn’t exist at all. That’s why it is vital to judge everything wisely and unconventionally. “Enemy” and “I finally understand” are quite boring songs in my humble opinion. Even though they have good lyrics the sound itself seems to be too traditional and conformal, that’s why i wouldn’t recommend you to listen to that.
Summarising what has been said I just wanted to declare that “how i’m feeling now” by Charli XCX is the most courageous albums of 2020 I’ve ever seen in my entire life. Even though this album is created by Charli XCX herself (DIY-concept) this artwork sounds very innovative. Of course, avantpop and experimentalism are the things that usually don’t get a “good perception” by everyone, but still those artists precisely should have a chance to speak out.

This project is both savage and emo and that's a miracle. It is surely not for everyone but once you get aboard you can't disembark easily. Even if I found some songs really not harmonious the artist compensated it with strong lyrics. We can thank Dylan Brady (from 100 gecs) to help Charli XCX produce 3 tracks of this interesting album. This one is the very first steps of an impressive turn of events in the career of the artist who chooses to get more in touch with this rough electro style. Less pop, more electro. Less common grounds, more introversion.

I'm sorry guys, but as far as I'm concern, Charli XCX is stipulating herself as the worst Pop and Experimental artist of the decade. With an incredible failure last year with her album "Charli" that touched one of the most profound bottoms of my disapproval, she comes back with no bigger aspirations, ideas nor intentions. Of course, her authentic essence and her dynamic with textures and Trance and Industrial sounds coexist with certain sensibility and form, but despite everything, nothing has a speech, the form has no structure, the power of her music is obligated to exist and the sensibility is totally cliche. Even if A. G. Cook minimally rise the project, it's not enough to give a sense, direction, or relevance to this artist. The popularity of Charly XCX is suddenly obvious since she represents the emptiness in the masses and the lack of ambition to have a self agreement and extend the being out of the superficial.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was really disappointed with the record, especially with the first single being somewhat promising. This record does NOT hold up well against Charli or Pop 2, with those two projects, they had a direction, they had a goal and they reached it. However with this album, there was a direction with some songs but then diverges right off with tracks like “Claws”, I don’t understand how that track made the final cut. -
I’m going to guess these 11 tracks just came right off the top of her mind and didn’t try to come up with more better songs. Tracks like “Pink Diamond”, “Pink Diamond”, and “Claws” make me question the real intention of the album, was she trying to write about love or quarantine? Because she didn’t do so well mixing the two concepts together, maybe in “Forever”? -
One thing I do like lyrically is that she doesn’t focus so heavily on love, she does venture off to other aspects of quarantine like friendships and self reflection, but didn’t do well at expressing them melodically, plus I didn’t enjoy the love songs that were present as they had little to nothing to do with quarantine, a song like that include “party 4 u”, I heard that track was made years in advance, and was just polished for this album, however it still feels contradictory to the concept of the album.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. How is this a quarantine album? The tracks feel super rushed to the point where they still sound like demos-though to be fair she created this album in like a couple of weeks. This didn’t deserve the title of an album, this should’ve been another mixtape considering how rough and glitchy the tracks were. The standout tracks for me were “c2.0” and “7 years”, but even then those two were too glitchy for me. What’s even weirder is the track “claws”, this is very simplistic, the track is very very shallow, lyrically and sonically, not that much substance to be found. nearly all of the tracks in this album are disposable, you can just tell they were trying to make the album sound distant and “quarantine-y” while actually being in quarantine-you just get a big mess of sounds. None of the tracks in general were memorable. It’s sad cause Charli’s 2 mixtapes beat what we have going on here. Even though her fan base got very involved in the creative process of this album, it just didn’t work out, which is fine, it’s just that this wasn’t a good approach to an album. Somehow with the rollout, Charli spent all her “decent” songs from the album and left the mediocre ones on here. On further note, some of the other lyrics on this album were very questionable, “we took a dive, in your mind”, and “I just wanna go real hard, pink diamond in the dark”, how does this even relate to quarantine?? Perfectly good scenarios in quarantine could’ve been used, from unemployment to fear. Quarantine isn’t just about parties for one and not giving a ****. Try again Expand

Remember when Charli announced she is recording new album no matter what, despite all the anxiety and uncertainty? She blew up YouTube and social networks with her writing process details, asked fans and her fellow musicians to choose the artwork and help with songwriting.
The first singles off her album were very promising, and I have to admit I cried when first listened to "forever".

The first singles off her album were very promising, and I have to admit I cried when first listened to "forever". Then I smiled when "claws" came out. Then it was a burst of different emotions when full album was released. "anthem" made me really want to go to a club. I couldn't stop myself from dancing alone in my bedroom and thinking about how awesome it will be to finally meet friends and go to a cinema or SUP-boarding.

Loosing my job during lockdown and not being able to meet friends which live in another town was the worst 2020 could bring. Honestly, this album helped me to go through this. I hope you stay strong too. xoxo

Similar to it's previous contenders "how i'm feeling now" takes us deeper into Charli's unique take on pop music. with glitter like melodies coated in Auto tune, hard hitting bass-lines, mellow pads and elaborate drum programming all coming together to bring us atypical love songs. The lyrics are direct and easily comprehend, which at times can be a downfall but nevertheless I thoroughly enjoyed this album from start to end. Taking into account the sporadic circumstances under which this album was created Charli manages to deliver us an exquisite album. Expand

She always transforms like a butterfly; she has a capacity to evolve both musically an personally that might even scare somebody. When I found out she was planning to release a "quarantine album" I was completely against it since I felt like the concept was very forced and that she only wanted to do this to be remembered as the crazy artist who recorded and released a full album while the world was stuck in their houses. But I must may that I was very wrong. "How I'm Feeling Now" might even be Charli XCX's best album to date. Learning about her past mistakes and accomplishments, she has been able to put out an album that sounds very new, fresh and exciting. Mixing the futuristic sound of her previous 'Charli' record with a new sound, a new concept and her actual feelings, "How I'm Feeling Now" sounds like the most exciting thing to happen in music history in recent years and an open diary. The album cover is simple, natural and outstanding. The global sound of it has been excellently produced considering that everything has been done by her and habitual friends and boyfriend in the short time of a month. In some songs clapping casseroles can be distinguished... how cool is that. And the way this album is able to catch honest feelings through this amazingly open, revealing lyrics? Pff, otro rollo.
I just love this Charli and am very glad that the "Boom Clap" one is forgotten in the past. This feels like the authentic Charli XCX, an empowered independent electric woman that has a mind of her own and that, even though is not the most successfull artist out there (which is a shame to see how underraded she is), she knows exactly what she wants in her life and career and does it with a lot of freedom and pride and does not need to strictly follow the road to money, success and fame nor the rules of the pop game. Didn't she say she had planned to release another record before 2020 ended? Well she better release it soon because I can not wait to have my high-voltage dosis of new Charli music and bring the club home to have another perfect 40-minute dreamy drunk houseparty fantasizing with that Cambridge singing accent, crunching production and killer pop music.

While how i’m feeling now is by no means Charli’s most genre-pushing work, nor an indication of the creative potential she has left, it will be remembered as a quintessential 2020 album—not just because of its unique recording constraints, but because of the passion, authenticity and work ethic interwoven in every fuzzy beat and every sprightly, lovelorn lilt of Charli’s most intimate vocal work to date.

If these songs are more off the cuff than before, nothing here sounds unprofessional. Some lyrics have not exactly been sweated-over – “I love you forever, even when we’re not together,” goes Forever – but they chime with people feeling acutely separated from loved ones.

While not life-altering, how i’m feeling now is fun, fast and thoroughly listenable. It’s absorbing as a document from a strange period, and its diaristic, vloggy aspects provide an intriguing peek into artistry under pressure.
