This album is a perfect example of what can happen when songwriting and vocal powerhouses get together and lightening strikes. One of the better albums of 2021. Aaron sounds great and should sing more often. Justin’s range never ceases to amaze me, and the addition of Taylor and other features brings it to a whole other level. I hope this album gets the recognition it deserves.

How Long Do You Think It's Gonna Last? What is "It"? The pandemic? The human race? The good times? A relationship? All of the above. I felt that this is a far more accessible and less experimental record than their debut. Of course the argument could be made that the once experimental Bon Iver/Dessner sound has now become the mainstream indie pop sound of the 2020's since their work withHow Long Do You Think It's Gonna Last? What is "It"? The pandemic? The human race? The good times? A relationship? All of the above. I felt that this is a far more accessible and less experimental record than their debut. Of course the argument could be made that the once experimental Bon Iver/Dessner sound has now become the mainstream indie pop sound of the 2020's since their work with Taylor Swift on "Folklore" and "Evermore". This album features Swift on 2 of the tracks whereas it would be hard to pick a track off the debut that would have suited her. Overall, I really like it, really strong songs and the collaborations keep it fresh. There is still a good degree of experimentation going on in the background as well. If I was in The National I'd be half disappointed the Dessner is throwing so many good ideas at this project to be honest. Some of these songs could take an amazing turn with Berninger and co putting their stamp on them. As he gathers the best of the melancholic indie breakfast club of the 2010's together, "How Long Do You Think It's Gonna Last?" is an album that nicely crowns what could almost be considered an imperial period for Aaron Dessner. I tapped on your window on your darkest night
The shape of you was jagged, and weak
There was nowhere for me to stay, but I stayed anyway
And if I would've known, how many pieces you had crumbled into
I might have let them lay

Solid folk project. I'm not highly impressed but I'm not as underwhelmed as I was expecting. The best song, no doubt, is Renegade, but Phoenix was another standout. Easy to Sabotage was my least favorite- into is 1:16 and 6:00 song for nothing great. The album wasn't bad though.

Amazing album, what a masterpiece! i love all of the songs especially Renegade, Birch, The Ghost of Cincinnati and Phoenix. Taylor and Justin's voices are perfect for each other and Aaron sounds so good. Also, Easy to sabotage is sooo unique i love it from the first listen.

These are the sounds of adult emotional struggle, thirtysomethings trying to make sense of the end of young adulthood, and to the realization that your troubles won’t go away just because you’re not hitting a bar every night. But it’s Dessner who becomes the most intriguing vocal presence.

How Long is frequently gorgeous, but even on a deliberately messy side project, Dessner and Vernon still feel like they’re holding back.

Aaron Dessner and Justin Vernon’s pet project has become the musical equivalent of Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner. And unfortunately, barring a few standouts, most of the guests add little spice to the proceedings, assuming they are even detectable at all.
