There's just something about this album. Each song is unique, but somehow connect. Vastly underrated when compared with Kid A and OK Computer. Where each of these albums had amazing high points, they both had some forgettable tracks. This album has spread its genius out throughout the whole album, peaking with "Reckoner", one of the most haunting songs ever recorded.

As for yes this is true Radiohead as always with always changing rhymes, clearer and sophomore instruments making our brain constantly searching for something. The talent of the band's members here comes to life in a strategic way to make us feel hidden pleasures, desires and wants.

Concluding in a great Radiohead way.

A beautiful, innovative mixture of rhythms, sounds, and much more. Everything flowed together best in this album than past albums. It's Radiohead's high point for me as of now. I still can not pick my favorite song, and if that happens it means the album definitely has potential... and it does!

It's not ambitious as all it gives the listener a collection of love songs that pose beauty but no emotional depth. It starts off with '15 Step' a song that combines electronic with Radiohead's now distinct lack of instruments. The song is largely forgettable, destined to be a skipper due to the directionless noise on the track that lacks of the depth of previous Radiohead tracks such as 'National Anthem.' Following it is 'Bodysnatchers' and 'Nude,' both two beautiful tracks that are highlights. Both, thankfully, are stripped down by the pretensions of the last two Radiohead albums and give the fans interesting and versatile tracks. The start of 'Nude' has beauty written all over it. Unfortunately, the rest of the album falls into dullness, and it feels that In Rainbows never reaches a climatic high of any sort. Whilst tracks such as 'All I Need' and 'Videotape' are amazing in their own ways and highlights, they are just songs that become tiresome. In Rainbows is a frustrating listen, one that will disappoint, lacks the beauty it tries to convey, comes across as self- indulgent and is reckless in it's lack of originality. Radiohead may be pushing forward in the promotion stakes, but musically wise, they are similar to a runner who spends too long of his time at the water stand. Expand

Most artists go through their career not achieving the greatest albums of all time. Radiohead did it THREE times. OK Computer. Kid A. In Rainbows. For nearly five years, the riff from "Bodysnatchers" is still scratching in my brain ever since. This album is a masterpiece. I'm not joking.

I'm a diehard fan, but even a few years later I am split on this album. In comparison to their prior work, this album doesn't do as much for me. The over-orchestration, the pointless Faust ARP, the mediocre guitar throwback of Bodysnatchers, this annoyingly paced Videotape, the excellent Go Slowly left to rot on a second disc of throwaways... Yet somehow, it all works. In the right mood,I'm a diehard fan, but even a few years later I am split on this album. In comparison to their prior work, this album doesn't do as much for me. Yet somehow, it all works. In the right mood, on a lovely day, this album is incredibly satisfying, even refreshing, and song after song send shivers down my spine. By far their most accessible album since The Bends, it's sometimes overly sentimental and downright gushy at points. The climaxes are almost annoyingly affective, like a cheap thrill ending up better than you anticipate. But so was "High & Dry", dammit. And that was the song that made me a fan. So maybe it isn't full of mind-bending experiments. It's still pretty great. It will never be my favorite, but despite my complaints, this album just works. Listen to it with the love of your life. Although Radiohead has developed somewhat of a reputation for being everybody's favorite (really that means everyone who is into their variety of music), this does not mean that they should be written off in any way. My experience of Radiohead is owning the The Best Of and this album. I like OK Computer, I like Kid A, and I most certainly love this album. In Rainbows is in truth a deaprture from the poetic, doom-encrusted Hail To The Thief, the dreamy sounds of Kid A and Amnesiac, the urban storybook of OK Computer, the hard diamond that is The Bends, and the breakthrough Pablo Honey. Why I say all of My experience of Radiohead is owning the The Best Of and this album. Why I say all of these is because each one had a link to past albums with new things pushed inside, but In Rainbows seems to forget that equation and go all out on its own. The sounds are less rock, more technology, and lyrics so gloomy it was as if Robert Smith threw them inside a Goodwill store only for Thom Yorke to pick them up. So, the lyrics are where this album commence. Thom has done the unthinkable: cleared up his speech to where I can slightly understand them, and thank God he did. Like I said, gloom fills them. "Bodysnatchers" is a strangely woven web of confusion and instructional messages, while "All I Need" brings the sincerity and sadness that would be perfect for a mixed tape. "House Of Cards" and "Faust Arp" brings back that strange, nervous feeling, and then "15 Step" and "Nude" go back to the feelings of completeness and wholeness. Schitzophrenic, no? The composition should also be noted. No song sounds the same, which is a lovely bonus, not to mention each song has a setting. "All I Need" has a city tenge to it, "House Of Cards" is alpine, "Nude" is a cave, "Bodysnatchers" is industiral, "Faust Arp" is woodsy, and "Reckoner" is almost like a closed garage or an abandoned warehouse. So, what's to say? It's a masterpiece. There is one difficulty here, though: is it better than OK Computer? It's certainly better than Kid A and anything afterward, and better than Pablo and The Bends, but is it the gift of God? Only a fan could tell. Expand

One of the best albums I've ever listened to. Beautiful, innovative, smooth and deep- I just can't get bored of it.

It's all about feelings. you make your way through shit and piss, end up in rainbows. nothing is better, lots of ups and downs, haves and havents and shit, all you see are colors. but colors aren't rainbows. rainbows are amazing, easy to feel and much clearer. so is "in rainbows". easy to love, hard to not listen. great musicians they are.

A review somewhere pretty much said exactly how I felt about this album: "An album Radiohead fans didn't even know they wanted." This will probably go down as one of my favorite albums of all of (my) time.

I downloaded this album when it was free. Listened to it and couldnt get into it. A month later, i was sorting my mp3's and wondered if i should delete or keep. After listening to it again, i couldn't believe how good it was. Best Radiohead Album ever. Best album with Bon Iver and Lil Carter 3 for the year.

Another sterling set by Radiohead. It's experimental but accessible, and if you haven't forgiven the group for Kid A yet (though I love that album), tracks like "Reckoner" and "Bodysnatchers" will probably bring back fine memories of the old Radiohead.

For a while I was with a lot of the people giving this 5's and 6's, thinking it seems a little bland and easy-going. But something clicked at one point, and In Rainbows just started flowing like silk. For me, despite it's high reviews, Hail to the Thief was a real letdown. A lot of it sounded disjointed, angry and cynical... a band that was exhausted of ideas and not particularly enjoying music-making anymore. I was worried Thom Yorke was getting a bit far up his arse about the environment and all that before this release. Thankfully, In Rainbows largely avoids all this political bollux, and they have concentrated on making music (as lame as this sounds) 'from the heart'. In Rainbows does not have any soaring guitar solos or dark electronic noodlings. It seems well textured and multi-layered instead and, though it's hard to explain why, I think lyrically this is one of the band's best yet. I can still see why some deem it average, but for me the album eventually broke through. I'm not a Radiohead nut by any means but many bands that go this long seem to slowly shrivel up and die after a while. I thought this would happen here after Hail to The Thief but it hasn't. The whole point in this lame, corny message is just to say if you are disappointed by this release on first few impressions... there is something much deeper here that's worth sticking around for. Not a doubt....it is an exciting, beautiful and emotional work that surpases all their previous works. An instant classic that will be regarded as the "Dark Side of The Moon" of this decade. They have taken so much distance from the rest of the bands, as their sound has become unique. Can't wait for the next album.

I don't understand the proclamations that this is the best record since OKC. It's pretty good but unlike OKC or the albums released since, it is not surprising or deep... to me, it's mostly good but mostly boring and shallow.

I love all Radiohead albums and I agree, best since OK Computer. also, saw them live in Victoria park, they did every song off of In Rainbows with a few old classics thrown in too, the in rainbows tracks sounded just as epic as the others (even tho karma police stole the show)

Play this album when you're all alone, and play it loudly. It'll find its way down to the very center of your soul, and it'll make itself a very comfy nest. This is an album I'll be revisiting often.

This is Radiohead's song album. There aren't any weird experiments like Kid A or Amnesiac ( although those were superb albums ) and the songs are all extremely catchy this time around. I listen to ALOT of music and I can honestly tell you that this the best album of the new Millennium and possibly Radiohead's finest work to date. I can't wait to see where they go from here!

Radiohead fans are such idiots! Although obviously good musicians, these guys can't write to save their lives. Of course the cult-like fans explain that away with claims of depth and accusations of "you just don't get it man." Don't worry, I get it: This is the most over-rated band in rock history.

To my ears, this is the best Radiohead album yet. This is where the ability to experiment and the ability to write a great melody intertwine to create a masterpiece that is not only ahead of its time, but is a classic that will hold up when all is said an done. This album makes you wonder how these guys can possibly get any better?

  2. Overall, the material feels more human, more honest, more assured.
  3. Happily, In Rainbows is pretty, pretty good.
