It feels somewhat appropriate that an album with such an abundance of reflection on sexual identity should be even more engrossing and intimate with a "stripping down" of the already fantastic songs. St Vincent's Masseducation is a sonically gorgeous record that ingeniously refines her previous album with a beauty and grace that is as romantic as it is captivating.

Following the fantastic mix of beautiful vocals and stunning instrumentals on the original, Annie Clark really shows how multi-talented of an artist she is on this record. The pianos are breathtaking and often are given time to shine, however what really stands out in this re-imagination of the amazing MASSEDUCTION is Annie's vocals. Occasionally, MassEducation borders on being too stark for its own good, but the songs hold their power in this unvarnished setting.

MassEducation is that rare record that works both as a standalone album and a companion to the original.

She has discussed the idea of songs having multiple lives, and that people, too, can live more than one existence in parallel, always aware of their diametric opposite. These songs bridge the gap between the two, exposing the overwhelming darkness that unifies her eclectic output along the way.
