After watching the "Darkness" video I didn't know what to expect but after picking my jaw from the floor and listening to the whole album I was pleased... really pleased.
Eminem went a long way from Revival(I dont hate it, some song I liked, other not so much), through Kamikaze which was very strong but a little bit raw album up to this jewel!
What hit me the most? BEATS. In my opinion from Revival to MUSIC TO BE MURDERED BY theres 10-15 step when it comes to beats and the sounds overall. It sounds, modern, energetic and HIP HOP.
Songs like Premonition, Godzilla, Unaccommodating or You Gon' Learn sound amazing and the other ones are pretty good to. What I really like is that Eminem sounds like He had a lot of fun making this album. Theres a lot of funny ad-libs and jokes, which i missed in last Eminem's albums.
Lirycs... It's Eminem! Top tier bars, clever doubles(Darkness is sick!) and a ton of punchlines. Great stuff. Absolutely briliant.
There's also few disses, powerfull but not as angry as on Kamikaze.
Hooks? Pretty good. Some landed hard(Godzilla, I Will, Darkness), some are good and 1-2 I wasn't biggest fan.
Features? AMAZING. Royce, Crook(his verse was nuts!), Joel, BT, Young Ma... I also liked Skylar Grey on the hook(powerful stuff!)
The whole theme of the album is great, especially for Alfred Hitchcock's fans. It has its own style.

This album seems like the result of an introspective journey Em has had to go through musically, he has looked back at what has worked on Revival (Believe, Castle, Arose) and Kamikaze, and attempted to craft an album based on those results. For the most part I think he did a good job here, while he is still trying to overload us with his unrelenting wit, not all songs suffer from this issue, and some that do are actually enjoyable to listen to (Godzilla). I also enjoyed listening to Em step out of his comfort zone, and rap over some more upbeat trap instrumentals, and thanks to his spectacular flow he is able to pull it off (unlike DOOM in Keys to the Cuffs).

Of course you still have the unavoidable “love” songs that need to be stopped, by any means necessary, since for every 5 of these songs Em makes, maybe 1 is smi-good (Good Guy). Where the album truly shines is on the leading single Darkness, on this track is where we get a glimpse of Em’s incredible song writing ability. The song was very well paced, the punchlines and double entendres were clever and served an overarching purpose, and Em’s story telling ability is as sharp if not sharper than on Stan.

Overall this was an entertaining listen, the guest verses were great (Royce, Joel, Crook) and Em got murdered on his own track by the great Black Thought. The hooks were pretty good (Anderson Paak, Juice Wrld), and the beats were very well crafted, for the most part, especially the You Gon Learn beat. Hopefully Em continues down this trajectory, focuses more on quality, finds new and interesting content to write about, and continues to evolve his writing ability.

I would give this album a solid 7, but I'm rating it a 10 just to offset the haters, lol

i will never understand a "critics" review, not only are they being biased but every time the majority of the public likes something the "critics" review is so far off from the public's and this isn't just being represented in music but in movies and video games alike. How can the same reviewer give Revival a higher score than Kamikaze? This goes for a handful of other "critics", particularly a "critic" giving Revival 80 but Music To Be Murdered By a 40. This just proves how out of touch and easily offended these people are, trying to force Eminem and other artists that are not only in music to be politically correct and its making entertainment for the culture booorrring. "The album opens with a woman being murdered, referring to the album’s title and foreshadowing its theme. Who’s committing this act…? Eminem is talking to his alter ego, as he digs Slim Shady up, letting him out of his grave." -Genius annotation user: Toonamiguy
This album is filled with lines that you just run in your head over and over for so long like it just hooks you in and you'll rewind just to hear it again. That is Slim Shady for you. It is crazy at the lengths people will go to deny the genius of the man! Crazy album, right up there with the best of his work. Needs multiple listens to understand.

Eminem once again proved all those so-called "CRITICS" that he is the RAP GOD and he always will be!!! And also for those snowflakes who get offended even by their own sneeze ... STFU!!! You can't cancel the LEGEND

It's got everything you're looking for in a top rap album. Great hooks, insane verses. If you haven't checked it out yet, you're missing out. On a lot. Musically-wise, I consider it to be his best album since Relapse. His style on MTBMB is a perfect mix of old-school and modern sounds, which is one of the reasons the album has such a high replay value I believe.

MTBMB has left me speechless honestly. And on constant loop of listening to the album over and over again. I loved Kamikaze, but I think this album is one of my favourites already, because I personally think it is so versatile, fresh, has great replay value and I just can´t get enough of it. I feel like there is something for everyone on this album and that Em really appreciates his fans' opinions by giving people what they want. I just cannot give anything under 10 for this album, there is not a single song I would want to skip. And about the mixed reviews I think these lines form Unaccommodating are spot on:

    They said I'm lyrically amazing
But I have nothing to say
But then when I put out Revival and I had something to say
They said that they hated the awake me
I lose the rage, I'm too tame
I get it back, they say I'm too angry
I need to get me some Dre beats
No, I should hook up with Tay Keith
Fans keep on pulling me one way
    Haters pull me in another

This album is Eminem's best work in years, I mean all his albums are great but this, this is what had been waiting for. The intro alone builds the hype for the whole thing and it takes you on a crazy ride.

Everything with this album is 10/10. The fact that The Independent gave this album 4 points is making me wanna cringe.

i don't know what everyone expected but i was happy with this album. No "mumble (c)rap" disses, fresh sound, features with new and old generations, big W for Don Toliver. You can hear that dark theme thru the whole album. Bars are amazing, production is hella good, actually what i really wanted from Eminem. His singing is also not bad, i enjoy it! Nothing disappointing for me.

Eminem's ability to still rap at this high level well into his late 40's is beyond impressive. His passion for music is evident in the work he put into this project. This album is easily my favorite album since MMLP2. Bravo Marshall Mathers!

The fact that the media itself wants to lambast an album that is just shy of perfect just goes to show the world we now love in, where PC culture is the way to live with one hand on your mouth incase you say something that might offend the snowflakes out there. The album itself is great any Stan such as myself will love this, especially those who appreciate great lyrics. It also has a hint of Eminem show mixed with the MMLP sprinkled in, is it as legendary as those albums? Only time will tell but I can honestly say we are witnessing a master of his craft at work, features from Anderson paak, and justice wrld are excellent. And Darkness is a masterpiece at work where you are getting 2 stories at once, if only the media were clever enough to catch on to the genius rather than taking it all at face value and trying to nitpick the song to death. He clearly cares about his output, but “Music To Be Murdered By” is, unfortunately, another mixed bag of tricks, propped up by lyrical acrobatics and underwhelming production.

If they look hard enough, any artist could find criticism of their work online. That’s sort of the curse of the Information Age. But not everyone overreacts quite as much as Eminem does. But if his fears grow tiring, his lyrical ability can still give you something to admire, even if the album is somewhat uneven.

It is not, strictly speaking, a good record—Eminem hasn’t made one of those in a decade—but it boasts enough technical command and generates just enough arresting ideas to hold your attention.
