    New View is an album that emulates the sound of 60's and 70's pop/rock, but it succeeds in providing enough originality and tact to sound less derivative and more celebratory. Friedberger is a great songwriter and possibly an even better guitarist, and it shows on tracks like the slow ballad Never Is a Long Time and the closing track A Long Walk.     The result is Friedberger’s most conventional-sounding rock record, and that’s a compliment: without any high-concept noise to distract her, New View focuses on her rich voice and her remarkable ability to turn a phrase.
