It's not a bad album, but it's just not good either. Linkin Park attempts a more pop approach and fails to deliver the message

Worst album by them. The only reason it has a lot of streams is because the youth thought they'd finally check the band out after Chester's death and only like the poppier side of Linkin Park which is this.. which is f-ing terrible.

One of the worst albums actually to come out in the last 10 years from a "band".

Whatever happen in Chester's mind when he record this album? Bands evolving their sounds? Maybe. The Result? Turd. Why don't they go to easier alternative rock instead of freakin POP.

The album continues Linkin Park's trend of trying different sounds and experimenting with writing techniques, which in itself is a very respectable thing an artist or band can do. Unfortunately, the problems arise in the sound of the album. Whilst a few songs in particular stand out (at least to me), such as 'Nobody Can Save Me' and the titular track, which is one of the best things the band has written in their whole history, the experimentation aspect makes the album sound like the majority of what was coming out during the mid 2010s. It's really ironic, considering just three years prior, Mike spoke out against the state of the current rock scene, resulting in the release of 'The Hunting Party' which showed real promise in the band's progression. I can't hate on the album too much, though. It's not bad to listen to, it's very easy going and works well as background noise, but had Chester and Mike not been on the vocals, it really would've had almost nothing that would make it stand out against the competition.

Hopefully their next release will revitalise the band and give them new light. Mike himself already showed more promise in his own album 'Post Traumatic', which was a lot more varied and overall had a better song line-up, so I have high hopes.

It is a pop album, and it successfully delivers everything you expect from a pop album. A band should not stick to the genre they started. in the words of Mike Shinoda "You are supposed to change". This is what Linkin Park genuinely was at the time and wanted to release, and I'm here for it.

Linkin Park has undeniably making their own brand of music since the beginning. Founded in 1996, the band started with an odd yet satisfying blend of metal and rap, spawning smash hits like Crawling, Papercut, In The End and more. One More Light throws all of that away.
From the first synths of 'Nobody Can Save Me,' it becomes brutally clear this is going to be a textbook-definition pop album. Blinded by the unfortunate passing of Chester Bennington, fans have flocked en masse to defend this album.
For a pop album, it's a well-written gem. But unfortunately, other genres of music exist, and Linkin Park was born and raised in them. A few well-made jewels shine in the murky depths of this excruciatingly dull experience, and the title track is one of the best Linkin Park songs to date. However, the highs of this album are only highs in the context of it, and are still lows compared to previous Linkin Park works.

While this album isn't outright bad, a big reoccurring issue is the lyrical content of the songs not matching the generally upbeat instrumentals, and Chester's voice often being too soft to convey them properly. The title track however, One More Light, is an exception.

Most of the reviews bashing this album are just complaints that it's not like the earlier albums. That's good because 'One More Light' is not supposed to live up to those. It's supposed to be an emotional album and it does an amazing job at being one. I'm not going to name it but I'm just currently listening to one of the highest rated emotional albums this year as I write this and I can tell you it doesn't hold a candle to 'One More Light'.

And for people calling them a sellout, I'd suggest watching the "Linkin Park reacts to Teens React to Linkin Park". Besides "Heavy", none of the other songs sound like any other popular songs. People just label them a sellout just because they got a female singer for one song and it just annoys me to no end that people are so quick to judge and dismiss good music just like that without thinking. "Heavy" isn't my favorite track on this album either but stop judging the entire album with such prejudice.

Give this album a go, I guarantee you'll love it.

I waited for a month or so to listen to this album. There was feeling inside of me that this album would not only be more of a miss than a hit for Linkin Park, but would finally show a fundamental shift not only in genre, but in their distinct style of music. Unfortunately, I was even more correct than I feared.

During their musical journey from nu metal to alternative rock, and even in their single-album foray into electronic rock, Linkin Park has maintained a sound style that was, if not unique, a staple of the band since their foray from Nu Metal. The use of abstract background sounds, powerful piano melodies and guitar riffs, and, most importantly, experimental and consistently changing vocals, created a sound that allowed for change and shifts in musical direction - and kept its fans coming back even to albums that strayed from its rock beginnings.

This style changed drastically with 'One More Light'. The powerful guitar riffs and electronic melodies are gone, along with a lot of the drums. The broad range of vocals seen in previous albums are replaced by a consistent, light vocals with none of the heaviness and emotion seen in albums such as 'Minutes to Midnight', 'The Hunting Party', or 'Living Things'. This creates an album that is mostly without vocal variety between songs. While other albums had heavy and light, as well as fast and slow tracks, this one has solely light and slow tracks. And it has an effect - I honestly could not tell in the first few songs that I had moved onto a new song.

Other reviews had called out Linkin Park for turning decisively into a pop band in this album. I agree, but I think the album is not a boring, forgettable album because of that reason. It is because Linkin Park could not bring any of their old experimentality and unique style to the album. It is not that Linkin Park cannot make a good pop song - “Shadow of the Day”, I would argue, is a pop song, but the powerful vocals, well developed guitar riff, as well as good musical mixing, create a song that is distinctly Linkin Park - but has mass appeal. In this album, however, Linkin Park brought none of their old experimental spirit, which leads to the album sounding like anything else on the popular music scene right now. This lack of experimentality from the normal is highlighted by their handling of collaboration with other musicians in the album. While in other albums, the collaboration with artists of different styles (such as with Rakim in ‘Guilty All the Same’), or with Jay Z, led to a merging of musical genres that, in my opinion, furthered the genre as a whole, their collaboration with artists in ‘One More Light’, such as in ‘’ has little effect on the song. If the song already sounds like something the artist would make, what’s the point of having a collaboration anyway?

But the sad truth is I think that, underneath the flat melodies and similar-sounding tracks, there really was a foundation that could have been turned into something more than a forgettable album. The song ‘One More Light’ felt like it should have been developed from a light song into a hard-hitting guitar riff and chorus halfway through, but instead kept the same quiet tone throughout. ‘Talking to Myself’ was the opposite - it had a more interesting instrumental part, but was held back by lacking lyrics. ‘Good Goodbye’ felt far too repetitive, but had generally decent vocals.

In ‘One More Light’, Linkin Park not only left behind its distinct style. It also left behind its individuality. And that may be the sad legacy of this album, if the band does not change course after this disappointing album.

It is hard to write bad review for long time my favorit band but lets try:
If You are old linkin park fan / nu metal / rock then you will find nothing in this album absoluty nothing it is 100% pop music. If you like pop then 3 maybe 4 points there are better singers/bands in this category.

This album encompasses all varieties of modern day pop, from Kygo to Years & Years to Milky Chance.
But never actually do a good job at either. Most songs are boring and predictable. However, the drum beats are catchy, but that's where the buck stops. 3 out of the 10 songs are decent, but never really hit the mark. I feel like this album should have been a spin-off as they've done before

I feel like this album should have been a spin-off as they've done before with Hybrid Theory/Reanimation and Living Things/Recharged. It would have been a good supplement rather than a full release. But at least it is more palatable than the Hunting Party, which I struggled to listen to in one play-through. Don't want to be too harsh, so 4 out of 10 stars is more than what this album deserves.

Their music just flat out rocks. Even when it comes to their softer every fforts, my heart is in it 100%. Fast forward to early 2017 and the song Heavy is released for fans to praise or rage about. I praised Heavy and even the later released Battle Symphony. LP stuck to their arena rock sound and put some pop flavor in it that went down very well in my opinion so I was still looking forward to One More Light. When the album was finally released, I was disappointed in all the other tracks. The album was drowned in all the post production horrors that make most of the modern day pop music unenjoyable for me. LP lost their crunch and lost their minds. I see that their heart was in the music and they don't want to put out the same music each and every time. I can respect that; they have plenary of music in their catalogue that I can enjoy until the day I die. I won't be revisiting One More Light any time soon. Expand

This album isn't as bad as everyone says. Sure, it's not like Linkin Park's other records, but it doesn't need to be. It may not be the best Linkin Park album, but it is a pretty heckin' good pop album. If you aren't a fan, LP already has a huge catalog, so I hope this doesn't muddy your day.

With One More Light, they're letting their strong songwriting skills truly shine, and just having fun making a pop record because they can. The production was a bit hit and miss, but the lyrical content was good mostly, and I actually quite liked the majority of the instrumentals, which I wasn't expecting at all. The highlights were Heavy, Good Goodbye, Battle Symphony and Sharp Edges, the latter being the best on the album for me. Chester Bennington's vocals are as good as they've ever been, and this is very much demonstrated by his versatility on different tempo tracks. Overall, I'm pleasantly surprised by One More Light. It's definitely not a perfect album - especially not when compared to some of their best work - but it's not a bad effort either.

Tilly - I'll be the first to admit that I know very few songs by Linkin Park. Of course, I have the obvious ones all on my rock playlist, but aside from those, I know next to nothing about them. One More Light was probably an odd place for me to start delving into their extensive discography but it surprisingly wasn't a bad place. Sure, it's certainly more poppy than what I know of their music, but the decent lyrics and catchy chorus' are still very much a part of their new sound. Heavy and Good Goodbye were the highlights and obvious single choices, whereas songs like Sharp Edges and One More Light felt like potential gems dragged down by a multitude of unfortunate lyrics. It was still a really cohesive and enjoyable listen, and I wouldn't be opposed to adding all of the songs to one of my playlists - bar Sorry For Now - to see if I end up liking it more than I feel like I do right now.

I'm all for bands trying new things with their sounds, and I would have been perfectly fine with them trying for a more "pop" sound, as long as they had something interesting to do with it, or if they infused their style with more of a pop sound. But nope, this is a strictly modern pop album, and a very dull one at that. I swear, I've heard more than 50% of this album on the radio in the past year or two from other artists. They have brought nothing new or interesting to the table. So as a "different album" for a band, this feels lazy and uninspired.

Looking at it as a Linkin Park album, and this goes waaaaay further down. They've thrown everything that made them unique out the window. No screaming from Chester, only a couple of rap bits from Mike. The guitar riffs are either completely absent or are buried underneath all of the pop sounds. As a Linkin Park album, this is far and away their worst.

I HATE using the term "sellout" and never thought it would be applicable to Linkin Park (as they've been pretty mainstream throughout their career), but it is HARD to listen to this album without thinking that. Because it literally sounds like they were listening to whatever pop music has been big in the past year or two and just copied that. They even brought in help with writing songs from people who wrote for Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez. You don't do this stuff without wanting your music to be just like whatever's trending at the time, and that, to me, is selling out. I know how much Chester hates hearing that (as his response to being called that was pretty miserable), but how do you make an album like this, especially following Hunting Party which was a pretty heavy album (and one that I very much enjoyed), without thinking about how people could perceive this?

I've loved every single Linkin Park album since they started, but this is a bad album. Through and through. There are a couple parts which are ok here and there, but it's hard to differentiate a lot of this album from each other, so those parts get lost. Like I said, I'm all for bands doing what they want with their sound, but that doesn't mean I have to be on board with what they choose. They have brought nothing new or unique to the genre and abandoned the things that made them unique in the process. Terrible album from a good band, hopefully they go back to the drawing board after this.

Strangely, after that album and claiming to be returning to their roots, it's quite strange and awkward for them to take this approach.

This is straight bubblegum, top-40 pop. This is not some experimental album. This is not art. I have no problem with an band evolving, and I do not expect to hear the same sound for almost 2 decades. This album is bad because it could really be seen as a companion album to The Chainsmokers new album. It's just so simple-minded, cliched, and derivative, and even for pop music, it's pretty bad. Chester's vocals don't even sound right and most of the songs sound similar. And even for a pop record, it never even comes near anything fun. It's all kinda mellow and slow and this theme recurs through every single track here, making it an extremely dull and boring listen, almost like listening to a country-pop album.

Now, I'm not bashing anyone for liking this. If you love it, that is great, but for me, I just can't make it through another listen. It's just absolutely terrible. The last track is alright, so therefore I won't give it a 0, but it's pretty darn close.

The lyrics are typical Linkin Park but the approach is different. That's the point. In my opinion, they do a very good job with this new feel. Well done.

Holy sh*t. This is wonderful. Wonderful? Am I joking? This is an absolute EPIC. Who would have known that Linkin Park can make such good pop music? I mean, Ed Sheeran and Harry Styles are gonna cry a river now. Their arena is taken. As it sweeps charts all over the world, we can say that there is still hope left for the pop genre... Best songs: OML, Talking to Myself, Sharp Edges, Invisible.

A very strong and top-notch album by Linkin Park. They have sealed their place as the most versatile music band of all time with this one. An amazing album.

The worst up to now this volume.
If one was a fan from the outset and one loved her hard sound, now one must look surprised on cover.
What has become only from Linkin a park. This is only a unity pop music.
The album belongs for me directly in the garbage.

Yep, as expected, Linkin Park has come out with a new album and a lot of hate is directed towards it. Having said that, is it a bad album. It's for sure not their strongest effort. In fact, some songs are really great. For example, "One more light" is one of the strongest LP songs to me in a long time, right alongside very underrated "The messenger" and "Powerless". Most other songs are at best 5/10. "Good Goodbye" is grime and rap with Mike and is pretty decent. Enough has been said about "Heavy". The talk about genres is getting old. The album is decent at best with some standout songs for me in "One more light" and "Sharp Edges". Expand

I wanted to like this album so badly. I grew up with Linkin Park, their first three albums being a large part of my early experience of music. So I won't deny that I am among the crowd who would love another Hybrid Theory. That said, I recognize that that is an unreasonable thing to ask of LP. I respect their desire to explore new territory, but their new sound just feels so limp. WhenI wanted to like this album so badly. That said, I recognize that that is an unreasonable thing to ask of LP. I respect their desire to explore new territory, but their new sound just feels so limp. When Thousand Suns came out, I liked most of the album, but was furious that they chose to end the album with an acoustic guitar song, something I would say seemed severely out of place on that album. LP seems to have continued in that direction, considering that so much of OML has such a slow, soft sound to it. I want to like this, but I just can't. It is lacking in personality, the only album that I remember liking whatsoever was Sorry for Now, which is a 7 at best. I wish that if LP has to change their sound so drastically, at least let it be fun. Fine, don't give me another album to headbang to, but at least give me something I could dance to and have fun with. One More Light is an album for when you want to sit around and contemplate stuff, and I can't imagine being more dissapointed in LP than getting a short album (only 35min, 10 songs) that is so lacking in personality. It doesn't rock, it isn't fun, the only word I'm left with is limp. Expand

Linkin Park has never been restricted to Hybrid Theory. OML is a strong album, lyrically it recaptures everything they've always been, putting a soft new sound. A couple misses on the album but overall it's another strong release from one of the greats

I felt like it was made for me at that point in my life. I would brag about LP to ALL my friends, and blast their music in my car because I wanted them to be financially rewarded for how AWESOME their music was and wanted to get the word our about them.
With every LP album, I listen it from start to finish at least 10 times to really get a good feel of what I think of the album. One More Light has beautiful songs and meaningful lyrics, but it is MISSING THE PASSION & FIRE that makes LP different than other bands. The passion in Chester's voice was so powerful that it would give me chills from every song when I would listen to his lyrics and his passionate voice. In OML, where's the passion?
The reason HT and Meteora worked so well was because they brought the NEGATIVE lyrics with the POSITIVE UPBEAT INSTRUMENTALS. That may have been totally unintentional, but it worked and made you different than any other band out there. It was beautiful how Chester would hold his chord, and Mike would rap behind his voice.
I know we are past those days, but come on guys, do what you're good at.
    1. Chester, you have an Incredible voice filled with passion and power that gives people strength when listening to it - so use it. You have I'm incredible ability to scream for long periods of time that gives people chills!
    2. Mike, you are an extremely talented rapper who has an incredible ability to flow and make the music rhythmic so that we can bob our heads to it and smile. Also, I love the piano playing.
    3. Mr. Hahn - you are super talented at the turntables, that makes me want to freestyle - so use your skills bro.
    4. Rob you're talented at the drums and bringing in the solid beat.
    5. Dave, slap the bass bro - we need to hear you. Brad, keep bringing in the sound and energy - I know it's there - you're very talented on the guitar - so let's hear it!

Lastly, I just want to say that WE ARE DYING for you guys to create an album using your natural talents (that I listed above). Make an album FOR US (YOUR DIE-HARD FANS) who LOVE your music and sound that we grew to love. I've been anticipating this album for years but it didn't meet my expectation because of the lack of POWER and BURNING PASSION! I like when you introduce new instruments to each album, but PLEASE BRING BACK the sound that we've grown to love and appreciate. I'm not talking about nu-metal - I'm just talking about having PASSION in your songs, and beats that we can bob our heads to (so that we can play the album anywhere from the gym to our car to sitting alone in our room.

OML has good beats, cool instruments, but mostly it is TOTALLY LACKING Chester's passion, and Mike's incredible RAPPING SKILLS - PLEASE bring that for the next album - do it for your DIE-HARD FANS, like myself.

I don't understand everyone's shock when they told us going in that this was what the album would be like. And to everyone saying there are no guitars on this record, do you have ears? They may not be as in your face as A Line in The Sand, but they are definitely there and definitely real. I love the subtle but strong lead guitar on OML, especially the bridge which matches Chester's tone perfectly. As LP said themselves, the music was built to "support" the vocals which is exactly what happens here. I hope that people continue to give this album a chance, because if you can manage to get past style change you will surely see the beauty in this music. Keep up the great work guys!! Those who appreciate great music know Linkin Park strive to produce it.

I suppose everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but every time I hear an idiotic and untrue claim that the band has "sold out" it pushes me one step closer to the edge and... well, you know the rest..

"One More Light" fades away from the usual heavy musical and lyrical notes for a softer, more emotional feel in what may easily be the band's best lyrical compositions yet.

That said, if you're on the side of the fandom that feels Hybrid Theory and Meteora are what the band should have "stuck with" and not allow the band to evolve as musicians, I would recommend leaving this album on the shelf.

Back in 2003, after just having heard the then fresh Meteora my thoughts were "This is a great album, but one more record like this and HT will be wrong". And ti appears, the band had a similar understanding. Ever since then they have been "evolving". They kept on mixing different genres, whether pop/rock on MTM or indie/rock on ATS. And it did work for them more often than not.

This album needs to be taken for what it is: a mediocre pop album.
The first point: it is a pure pop album. In no way it is an experiment or an "evolving". No mix of genres here either. If you don't call it using the most tiresome pop music elements.
The second point: it is hard to review a pop album without being deep into the genre. However, this is at no point in its short 35 minutes close to Madonna, Sting, George Michael or whatever decent pop artist comes to mind. Just a pack of summer relaxing songs that are sure to be forgotten sooner than later.

Normally this in and of itself wouldn't necessarily be bad. However, and the second problem, is the songs don't feel overly new. I've heard these sounds from other artists already, so nothing feels fresh.
I understand they are trying to get a more pop-oriented sound, but at least make it feel innovative and new, instead of sounding like a rehash of other bands.

Linkin Park sacrifice all musical integrity in pursuit of mainstream commercial success.
Not even a few seconds into the album you hear the pitched vocal effect aka “chipmunks”, a desperate plea to fit in within the trendy pop music quo. “Ohh Ohh Ohh” vocal choruses that sound like One Direction, 808 synthetic drums just like every other pop track, and the overused EDM sidechain volume

This is not innovating or being creative, this is simply following what is popular to try to become popular. But even after sacrificing their integrity for popularity, they cannot pull it off correctly. The songs end up falling flat, boringly generic and unmemorable. Should’ve hired Max Martin.

The issue isn't that it's a pop effort; indeed, they get points for a brave attempt so outside of their wheelhouse. The problem is that much of One More Light is devoid of that visceral charge that previously defined much of their catalog. It's a provocative challenge that ultimately fails to satisfy.
