Our Love to Admire combines the melecholy, beautiful, and climatic sounds of the Interpol we love with newer drum and guitar combinations. The lyrics have retained their ambiguous, brooding nature, but have evolved more into narrative stories. Listen to it over and over and catch different pieces of this great album.

theres deffinitely much more diversity in the way these songs sound compared to Antics which was pretty monotone. this album took me by surprise.. there alot of great tracks on here... the only one i didnt like at all was Lighthouse of course which sounds all too psychadelic and doesnt seem to fit in at all with the rest of the tracks..

This album is so nostalgically beautiful. althugh, i have to admit, the songs are all kind of similar at first, but after a few listens, each is distinguished. it think it would be a really good soudtrack for a dark, depressing action movie.

Interpol's 3rd record is their best yet. It is born from their first two records but blows their previous work out of the water in many respects. I'll pick 'The Scale' over any tune on Antics, and 'Wrecking Ball', 'Pioneer to the Falls', or 'The Lighthouse' over 'NYC' any day of the week. Its simply gorgeousness, their new songs. Some of these comments make zero sense. This album isn't marked by more guitar but by more percussion, this album is more textured and "Pioneer to the Falls" is an oustanding opening track. By the time "Mammoth" rolls in the album had sunk its teeth into me.

Another great album from one of the best indie rock artists this decade. It may not quite reach the heights of Turn on the Bright Lights, but several songs on this album are some of the best the band have ever recorded. Although not quite as mind blowing as the preceding Antics, Our Love To Admire is an exceptional album. It nears perfection with only a solitary weak link on it's tracklist (the closing Lighthouse). I personally prefer this LP to the much lauded Turn On The Bright Lights and the uneven self titled album.

Not as solid an outing as the previous two albums (will anything ever compare to Turn on the Bright Lights?) but a great record nonetheless. This was a much-needed progression for the band's sound, because if they released another album sounding like Turn On the Bright Lights or Antics, things might have grown stale.

Along with El Pintor, this is one of their more accessible releases. It is less dark and brooding than its two predecessors. As a result, it has a much brighter tone overall. I don't have a problem with this: in fact I’m glad that Interpol tried something new! However, there are some flaws that I notice now in retrospect. After the halfway point, I feel that quality gets a little bit spotty. Some of the tracks start to feel a bit weaker. But at the same time, the second half still features plenty of tracks that I really enjoy (“Rest My Chemistry” and “The Lighthouse,” to name a couple). Luckily things don’t crash and burn, and the album always manages to regain its composure when it stumbles. I am especially glad that this album ends on a strong note. On the previous two releases, the final tracks didn’t really feel like closing tracks – it almost made it feel like those albums ended in the middle of things. But here they finally nail it with a dramatic finish that wraps everything up perfectly.

I can see why some people might adore this record, but I can also see why other people might think that it’s just okay. Personally, I enjoy Our Love to Admire for its embellishment on Interpol’s typical sound. This is what really makes this record stand out as a solid entry in Interpol’s discography.

Far from bad; however, the boys of Interpol need to turn on the bright lights that caught our attention in the first place. As it is, Our Love To Admire is one of those albums fans are bound to love and everyone else will simply wonder what the hot fuss is all about. And yes, it sounds exactly like their first two albums--to the point of frustration.

Depressing to listen to given their past work. You can tell yourself it's just a change of direction, but it's hard to not call that sugarcoating. Play this album and then follow it with anything from Turn on the Bright Lights and you will see how much more they used to care.

Mostly generic and dissapointing follow-up to Antics and their absolute masterpiece Turn On The Bright Lights, with the occasional flash of brilliance that is "Pace Is The Trick". After listening to this album from beginning to end about a dozen times now, I can conclude this is an extremely mediocre album. After releasing their debut masterpiece Turn On The Bright Lights in 2002, Interpol unknowingly set off a watershed of post-punk rockers culling the territory mined by bands such as Joy Division, Echo & The Bunnymen, New Order, and The Cure in the late 70s and 80s. With all the Franz Ferdinands, Killers, Editors and Braverys in the world streaming a re-energized enthusiasm for 80s synth-washes with more modern dance hooks, Interpol perhaps felt threatened in their role as avatars of the post-punk revival. With Our Love To Admire, it seems fairly obvious now that for the most part, Interpol have exhausted their muse. As they did with Antics, they seem determined to water down their own signature sound into what they believe will be more palatable to masses and compete on the floors of alt-rock dance clubs. The result is that Our Love To Admire comes off as some kind of Interpol-Lite: 2/3s of the album are comprised of the same formulaic up-tempo, brooding-Killers pastiche that defined Antics. However, there are moments here that are extremely worthwhile to any Interpol fan. The best songs on this album are the ones that Interpol allow to expand: opener "Pioneer" is transcendent with its wailing walls of guitar, the clean orchestrations, and the kind of unresolved tension and anti-climax that recalls the best aspects of Bright Lights. And while other standouts "No I In Threesome," "Mammoth, "Wrecking Ball" and "The Lighthouse" may excel sonically, the album as a whole disappoints lyrically. Paul Banks' vocals are front-and-center in the mix (where did Carlos D go??), and more versatile (read: less monotonous) than on previous outings, but his lyrics obsessing over coked-out groupies and his own self-indulgent rock-star lifestyle are embarrassing, and pale in comparison to the vivid and violent imagery that defined Bright Lights and provided the sole cohension on Antics. Cringe-worthy lyrics, and only modest developments musically, 5/10 is extremely generous. Expand

I agree with the review. Was really looking forward to this, but I am very displeased. Sounds like a band that has run out of ideas, but still trying really hard to come up with something that is "important' and "relevant". Personally, I think the new Editors album blows this out of the water!

OLTA meanders within the same digitally delayed, Joy Division realm as usual, but doesn't evoke the same emotions at all. Bright Lights gets a 9 or 10, Antics gets a 6 or 7, and this gets a 5 at best. Some nice little harmonic moments but overall this one is forgettable.

Wow, this just sounds phoned in. I never thought the riffs would be so repetitive and boring. Never does the album soar like Antics did. It sounds like a 5, but I took off a point for lack of effort.

i listened to it about three times through... and that was enough. You'll find much of the same content and detached feeling on their second effort, Antics, only with slightly less successful results. I gave them two chances - but no more.

The band pile on more instruments and let the spaces between 'em breathe less with each album. This is musical progression? I miss the dreamy vistas of their debut. They could have gone somewhere interesting after that one...

since i'm a pretty ferocious follower of interpol's past works, i have given this album 20 solid listens so far to see whether i could connect with it like i did with their past two LPs. unfortunately, i remain highly disappointed. not the direction i personally envisioned them taking, but it could just be my biased ear.

Our Love to Admire lacks everything that made Interpol exciting and relevent. Instead it's filled with pointless songs that never evolve into anything substantial. The urgency and focus present in the previous albums is not only gone, but it's hard to believe that they were made by the same band. At best Our Love to Admire is a mediocre collection of b-sides.

I can't believe we waited for this. The mystery that was once interpol seems to have finally come to light. Dark shape shifting lyrics have given way to undercooked half sarcastic lyrics. The music seems to be exactly what one might expect and the melodies are mediocre at best.

  1. The black-clad New York quartet still sounds inflexibly menacing, grasping tighter than ever to its doomy post-punk influences and delving further into frontman Paul Banks's emotional unrest.
  2. Our Love to Admire fleshes out the dark edges of Interpol's sound to create a polished, muscular-sounding record that teems with life and bristling potency.
  3. With giant gyrating reverberated guitars and a grandiose brass section, this is the sound of a rock band attempting the sweeping gallantry of Sibelius or Tchaikovsky and getting away with it. It represents a smugly victorious ending to what is a phenomenally strong and well-polished album.
