While Palomino represents a slight shift in First Aid Kit’s sound, its evolution, not revolution and there’s plenty to admire in terms of the Söderberg’s unerring ability to craft beautiful celestial harmonies and conjure a sense of the mystical and magical out of the ether.

First Aid Kit are no longer a one-trick pony—that horse being Americana. There are still tracks that would be right at home on an Everly Brothers record, but unlike the sentiments expressed by their first-person narrators, these 11 songs show the band has taken a step forward.
  3. Another gem in First Aid Kit’s consistently good arsenal of timeless, harmony-rich roots music.

A record of warm and soaring pop-rock that still manages to both delight and intrigue, ‘Palomino’ is the sound of a duo still roaming new territory, but feeling more confident than ever.

This is another very good, solid album from the Swedish siblings with a fair bit of typical brilliance scattered throughout.

More of this crooned gothic gospel, like a Nick Cave/PJ Harvey murder ballad, would be welcome in an album that can dip too often into cheesy, handclapping sentimentality. First Aid Kit have the dynamic songwriting and performance mettle to deliver more nuanced, exploratory terrain than Palomino offers.
