Kesha's third album "Rainbow" is definitely her magnum opus. The album was a 180 degree turn for her. Unlike her first two studio albums, this album wasn’t filled with dance pop songs about drinking and partying, in fact, it didn’t have any dance pop songs at all. The album was a 180 degree turn for her. Unlike her first two studio albums, this album wasn’t filled with dance pop songs about drinking and partying, in fact, it didn’t have any dance pop songs at all. Kesha's sound is very organic on this record. She experiments with rock music, country music and even neo soul. The album is a very deep and personal one. There’s A LOT of substance here and honestly before this album came out I never would’ve thought that we would get an album like this from Kesha. It was released five years after her second studio album "Warrior", which came out in 2012. In those five years, Kesha was struggling with mental health issues and a eating disorder and was in a highly publicized legal battle with her former producer Dr. Luke, who she accused of sexual, physical and emotional abuse (#FreeKesha by the way).

Where do I begin? The album's lead single "Praying" is a masterpiece. It’s Kesha‘s best song. For the first time ever, Kesha shows that she is an amazing singer as she hits a Mariah Carey-like high note at the end of the song. The song is probably about Dr. Luke as it talks about hoping that everyone, even abusers can heal. Apparently the song was inspired by suicidal thoughts Kesha had, which makes it even more emotional. An incredible song. There are some gospel influences here by the way. "Learn to Let Go" is another gem on this album, as I can really relate to it. It’s a song about letting go of a bad past and learning from old mistakes. The lyrics are incredible here. Another song that is amazing lyrically and sonically is the title track "Rainbow". It’s an epic ballad, which has a whole orchestra and a choir in the back. It’s another song about letting go of the past and moving forward. It’s beautiful. "Hymn" is a beautiful lowkey song for people who feel like they don’t belong. The album opener "Bastards" is a stripped down self-empowerment song which ends with a powerful choir outro. Of course this album does have uptempo songs as well. It wouldn’t be a Kesha album without them. There’s the feminist anthem "Woman", the country influenced "Hunt You Down", the extremely fun "Boogie Feet" which is more of a rock song and there’s the self-empowerment song "Let 'Em Talk". Another song that is incredible is the western sounding mid-tempo bop "Boots". And there is also one of the typical weird songs that Kesha is known for; "Godzilla". You can tell that "Rainbow" was like therapy for Kesha. It’s a deeply personal, emotional record. She wrote those songs to get back on her feed after a rough time, to empower herself again and others and it worked. At least it did for me. Favorites: Praying, Learn to Let Go, Boots, Rainbow & Boogie Feet

Kesha's vocals have matured so much since Warrior, even since her guest appearances on 2015's Lover and last year's True Colors. Kesha came through, and we Animals are so proud of her. this album will make you smile, cry, feel energized and even laugh. one of the finest pop albums of 2017 for sure.

Im happy they did because it was actually good dare I say great, as many have already stated this is hands down Keshas most mature album. The writing is great actually it feels refreshing to hear some thought behind lyrics in a Kesha song. Her vocals had me impressed many times through out the album, and the scale of the songs where shocking, a few of them starting with piano and ending with an almost massive orchestral scale's like "Praying" and "Rainbow". While my only problem with those two songs is they sound way too similar however it doesn't take you out of the spell the songs put you under, the track "Godzilla" is possibly one of the cutest songs I have ever heard. Now with me saying earlier that I'm not really a fan of Keshas older stuff there are a couple of songs that fit into that genre of old Kesha that wasnt really my thing. As of now Kesha is on my radar and I'm incredibly interested in where she will go from here. Expand

Definitely one of the best albums of 2017 by far. Kesha surprised me with an excellent mix of genres, ranging from pop to country to rock. Lyrics are sharp and on point while being very personal - Learn to Let Go, Praying, Hymn and Rainbow are really moving. I never expected an album like this from Kesha, I'm really surprised!

Kesha mostra mais uma vez que pode retornar a comandar a industria musical. Rainbow é com toda certeza o melhor álbum de 2017 lançado até agora, e Praying é minha aposta para o Grammy!

A record that perfectly combines pop, country, rock.
Also, it is fascinating with great context (easy lyrics but strong feelings)
and also a powerful voice Kesha has never shown before.

Such an incredible album. This is truly so empowering and inspiring. Her journey is one of struggle, strength and self discovery and it all comes through on this record. I could not be more proud of this woman's journey and her never ending message of love and acceptance.

This is the album that we need it.
It truly shows that Kesha was hiding and trying to go out.
Finally we got it; it was worth it.
I don't think there's and old and a new Kesha, she just evolve, and her essence it's still there, you can here it and you can feel it.

Kesha is dependable for fun, rollicking tracks and this album doesn't disappoint. But the lyrical content is heavy in one direction that seems to speak to women who want feel empowered. I'm not that. I don't MIND that, but it's not going to speak to me quite like any of my favorite a-level albums. Ultimately the eye roll inducing "YOLO" philosophy of several tracks hurts the overall impression of the album, for me. "I'm perfect even though I'm f*d up." Yeah, sorry. Kesha's first album in almost 5 years after "Warrior", and her first ever since dropping the dollar sign symbol from her name, shows exactly what you'd expect: maturity and growth. The solid record is all about letting go of the past and its sorrows-filled bad vibes, and celebrating strength, womanhood and confidence.

The music is liberating, and the messages in the songs are empowering as hell: we go from 'Don't let the bastards get you down', to 'Shake your ass, don't care if they talk about it' to 'I'm just having fun with my ladies here tonight', all in the first three songs.
On a another note, the ballads really shine: 'Praying', a strong ballad presumably addressing her ex-producer/rapist, establishes Kesha as one of the strongest powerhouse artists out there, while 'Rainbow' is about finding colors and filling your life up with them after you've lived in the dark for so long.
In addition, this album showcased Sebert's vocals like we've never heard them before, all while containing songs that sound exactly like something 2010-Kesha would sing (looking at you, 'Boots'). There are almost no filler tracks ('Finding You'?), and although it may sound like it's all over the place (going from country to rock to full-on pop, to country again), it's Kesha's charismatic enchanting persona that glues the songs together.

'Rainbow' works in every way, and it's in the moments where it sheds all the lights on the vulnerabilities and the heartbreaking truths, that it truly triumphs.
