Let's look at the facts: Alt-J decides to experiment even further than they did on their new record (RELAXER).

While I don't think this release would please their casual fans, I think it has some great collaborations (Noticeably, Deadcrusher, Last Year, Pleader). Most of the tracks do come off as dull, but the highlights of this record are very good.

I like how they experimented even further on this album, but most of it doesn't go anywhere at all. The boring songs from Relaxer are remixed to be even more so, I enjoyed the two In Cold Blood remixes but aside from that it's either dull or just plain bad tracks.

There are glimpses at what Alt-J may attempt in the future if they want to continue collaborating, and few would complain if that’s the case given the high points here, but at present, Reduxer is full of missteps from a band who seemingly can’t help themselves at this point.

Not all of this experimentation works perfectly, as you might well expect, but the biggest disappointment has to be "House of the Rising Sun".

Where the original lacked depth, these versions source it through the lens of a quasi 21-track double album with revived bass and energy that is the stuff of their live shows.
