    Very boring all around. After making 4 superb albums, they've fallen to cowtailing to popular taste and have taken on a Franz Ferdinand-like sound. Puke. I'm very disappointed and glad i never bought this album prior to hearing it (i almost did. whew!) i liked them better snotty, full of attitude and rockin'. Road to Rouen makes me want to go to bed. 'Nuff said.

    Incredibly disappointing from a band who used to be so exciting. Bland. One or two moments where you can tell that there is a good songwriter there. They need to work harder if they are to achieve anything else in their career. Complete lack of effort from a moribund band. I really hope they prove me wrong...

    Fantastic album - it's like a journey back to 1972. I can feel the influence of The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, T. Rex and many other 70s rock bands. They're not trying to be pop, they're only having fun with their music and trying to expand their sound.

    I love them being mature, should they be doing I should coco when they are 60 like The Rolling Stones is doing the same shit again and again? some bands want to develop and even well yes mature. It is not that dangerous you know!

    a spanking release from supergrass. their best album to date, revelling in the understated genius that have kept the band out of the glaring limelight. why are there not more bands like supergrass?

    This is actually a very solid album. This is another in a long line of groups that are changing their music around (ie BRMC, White Stripes). Who would've thought that a group that has been around for over 10 years still has the energy to release such a great album. Excellent!

    A mellow collection of beautifully crafted songs by a band who care far more about their musical direction more than their popularity. 'Tales of Endurance', 'Sad girl', 'Roxy', 'Kick in the teeth' and 'Fin' are my favourites, but all the songs are good. I enjoy it more each time I listen to it.

    Supergrass seem incapable of writing a weak song. Though they've left behind some of their punky energy, this album is gorgeous, sing-along pop from beginning to end.

    A very different album to Supergrass' other releases; considerably mellower but still full of some great tunes. St Petersburg is particularly understated, but grows more interesting on each listening. I'm only going for a 7 on this for some rather poor sequencing I'm afraid - a couple of tunes jam aimless for up to 6 minutes and it really ruins the albums flow.

    i am new to supergrass, saw them on jay leno and they blew me away & i bought this album . brilliant ! cant wait to buy more, what a goldmine of great songwriting talent! "Supergrass Takes Root" in the states

    works better as an album than as individual songs. no stand outs, just supergrass doing their thing.....i think this band will keep on growing. Im a fan.

    Nearly perfect album. Every song leaves you wanting more. The only criticism is that it's too short. Supergrass are like a fine wine - when they were young they were punchy and to the point and made you expect great things, but now they have mellowed and gained a complexity that makes their appeal more elusive and more satisfying.

    I don't understand all these Supergrass fans who are saying this album is boring. What makes Supergrass so good is their sheer song writing talent. This album contains some of my favorite songs. Sorry if it's not dancey enough for you. You've missed the point.

    They have never shown such control on a record before -- previously, their best albums were exciting because they went all over the place, and did it well -- and it's quite intoxicating to hear them ride one groove, finding different variations within it, for an entire album.

    It seems they’ve not only gone and made that sensible and mature fifth album that every band past their sell-by date inflicts on their effervescently loyal fans, they’ve actually made a record that would be more appropriate in an old folks’ home than your local indie niterie.
