A very well executed album filled with emotion. However while it really demonstrates Palace's ability to consistently put out great songs, it feels like they don't have the will to go all the way and be more creative. The album ends up feeling repetitive and lacking energy. I wish they could pull into their great harmony sounds to elevate their music to a higher and more original level.

a pretty repetitive and boring record, which has some interesting moments for sure

Very chilled, I like. Bit bland at times but easy to listen to. Vegetable lasagne

Leo Abrahams’ stylish production steers the discussion toward his previous work with Brian Eno and Jon Hopkins, even if Shoals just as often makes me think of a weighted blanket or paint roller soaked in aloe vera.

It feels like Palace's first significant work. [Feb 2021, p.85]

Undoubtedly their best record to date, it finds Palace asserting themselves in ways they’ve always suggested were possible.
