In continuing down their very interesting path of combining tragedy and radiance in music, Los Campesions! succeed again in creating a youthful and intelligent indie rock album, despite there only being a couple of truly inspiring melodic motives. My Score: 138/180 (Solid) = 7.7/10

There is no one else in this scene that compares with Los Campesinos!
How is it possible they're not only "still this good," but instead actively upping their game on so many levels.
My order of ranking the songs (as of right now): A Litany/Heart Swells Amarante A Slow Slow Death Got Stendhal's Here's to the Fourth Time Sad Suppers Renato Hung Empty The Fall of Home 5 Flux

    Belly Tolls

And these are all very good songs. "Fourth Time" and above cross into great songs' territory...and I'm always surprised when any band I run across has ONE great song on an album...here we have at least five

These 40 minutes for maybe the most well-rounded Los Campesinos! record yet.

They just make records, and they’ve made a very good one in Sick Scenes.

Any nuance is stomped by hectic drums and background chants, but it's hard not to warm to people acting on the very human compulsion to make their presence known in case they spin out of reach forever. [May 2017, p.107]
