Good ol' sleazy dessert rock with a traditional edge that imbued the 90's with it's generation defying ethos of counter culture. It's an uneven effort overall.

Stunning effort. This album is Queens of the Stone Age's paroxysm. If the stoner rock ambiance asks a bit to get used to it definitely will pay back a hundredfold. This project sounds like one of your dad's favourite. But it is actually more than that. Terrific riffs, great lyrics, interesting concept, frenzied rhythms make catchy and unforgettable tracks packed in one album. Clearly a must-listen to for each and every rock lover.

A classic in rock history. Probably inspiration to many others creating bands and records we hear today. Definitely their best album to date with mean powerful riffs and fitting lyrics!

From the hard blues rock of No One Knows to the slower, acoustic jam of Mosquito Song, the band is able to showcase their diversity musically, while delivering self-aware and intelligent lyricism. The radio station interludes also manage to keep the listener hooked on the trip. Every song explores its individual theme perfectly (remember when you're reviewing not to impose your expectations upon a song/album -- insofar as baseline sound, musical expectations and song titles are concerned, this album delivers 10/10).

The vocals are superb, as is the instrumentation -- the only thing a critic could pick on is the lack of pop sensibility, but this album isn't about pop; moreover, it had a smash hit with "No One Knows".

If you want to critique it in terms of artistic advancement, this album delivers: here we encounter the Palm Springs rock-aesthetic of the 90s for the first time on a broad scale (not Kyuss, but on a mainstream scale) in its most accessible and irresistible form -- beyond driving out to a generator concert.

Chiefly, the songwriting on this QOTSA jaunt is immaculate. Josh Homme is molten on every cylinder, and where Nick Oliveri takes over, his contributions are unforgettable and add to the broader flavour of the album -- insofar as it would ruin SFTD if you took them away.

*** Need I say it? Dave Grohl smacks the drums into ten-dozen dimensions during playthrough.

If you want to hear the left-wing of rock in the 00s, you must listen to this tour-de-force of an album, otherwise you'll look like a hack.

I was kid, confused and didn't know what I should listen. I was searching something new. I my music taste didn't form yet and I found what I want, I found many new albums, music ,singer and one of the albums was this. Thank for the memories. That's one of my favourite album ever made.

The opening with "You think I ain't worth a dollar" is like being shot right in the ears. The concept of the Radio stations is well executed, they explore different types of songs to match hypothetic stations.
Like "Another love song" is their take on pop and catchy lovesongs.

The album featured Dave Grohl playing drums and is a blast.

A full throttle ride through the deserts of California that never slows down. Every riff from this masterpiece has managed to establish itself as an instant classic. The album always seemed a bit under-appreciated because of its besettling nature, so it was nice to see it recognized and praised like it deserves to be. One of the best albums of the century for me.

Bruising and brilliant, this is as cool as hard-rock gets. "Songs for the Deaf" is undoubtedly the best record produced by QOTSA by a long way in my opinion. "No one Knows" and "Go with the Flow" have become alt rock classics since the release of this album but there are so many great tracks on this record its hard to pick out highlights. "Six Shooter" will practically singe your eyebrows. At times you would be forgiven for having sympathy for the instruments played on this record as the drums and guitars get a real hammering on this. Which brings me to the drumming - it is simply outstanding and backing it up is near perfect guitar work. One of those records where everything clicks for the band. A hard rock treasure.  Expand

It goes without saying that damn near anything Dave Grohl touches turns to gold, and his presence on this album is no exception. This is a classic QOTSA album from start to finish. The bass is aggressive and chunky, guitars are haunting, the vocal delivery from Hommes is drawly and sleazy as always, the drums are kickin', and the riffs are instant classics.

Do I even need to tell you why this album is great? It's been praised to no end and rightfully so. Some of Queens's best work is just this album heard front to back. This is an amazing album. Probably one of the best of the 2000s (but in my personal opinion, White Blood Cells by the White Stripes is the best of that decade). If you like Stoner Rock, Alternative Rock or just wanna hear so good music of the new millennium, buy this album. It's on Vinyl, Cassette, CD & Digital Download. I plan to buy it on all 4.

This is the most powerful record ever made. In Songs For The Deaf, Queens Of The Stone Age are at their best. There are just two or three songs that aren't unforgettable, but all the others are fists to your hears. An album for those interested in heavy guitars, low chords and intense strong drumming.
This record is a **** masterpiece of contemporary music.

Excellent album, one of the best I've listened to.
The album starts with a bang, with 5 awesome tracks. It follows with the weak "Six Shooter" (IMO, of course), but then enter awesome tracks like Go With the Flow, Hangin' Tree, and one of the best tracks of the album, A Song for the Deaf.

Anyone who says this album is bad is obviously an idiot. There is not a metal band that exists that can dish out these riffs and vocals. No One Knows has one of the greatest guitar riffs of all time. Maybe the best metal riff ever.

There is not one weak song on this album, being QOTSA's finest effort to this day, and still a classic hard rock album that any music lover should have in their collection.

I can pick out 11 songs that are just awesome on this record. The combination of Grohl's excellent drumming and Homme's genius songwriting is a testament to the QOTSA we all know and love.

I certainly appreciate Josh Homme and his vision for rock and roll, but as a whole, I cannot recommend this album. It starts out relatively strong, but takes a dive in the second half. Download "No One Knows" and "Go with the Flow" and leave the rest of the album alone.

If God and Satan copulated to spawn a child made of music, Homme, Oliveri and Lanegan (on this album) would be the sound of its voice. A genre-defying - and career-defining - LP. A must-have for any rock fan. Find it, buy it and listen to it - again and again.

I gave this album a 7 because it's really a classic album in the rock scene. But not the best one. Most people will know it from the songs No One Knows And Go With The Flow. It's a album you will listen for 2 times and then a few months no more. well this is of course my opinion.

It was hard decide weather on not I should give this album a 10 or a 9, I going to go with a nine because the last few songs arn't that good. However what is here is some of the best hard rock you can listen to with a song for the dead being my personal pick, of possibly one of the best songs EVER. Not to metion the classic QUOTSA material. Pure excellence.
