Beautiful ballads of fear, insecurity, childhood wonderment, regret, and love. The wonderfully disjointed songs, that work as streams of consciousness instead of streamlined experiences creates a hauntingly beautiful mix of music.

One of the best projects of 2016. So unique and happy, while also having emotional peaks throughout. Can honestly say I haven't heard anything else that sounds like this.

"Freedom" is perhaps my favorite on the record due to how joyful and unencumbered she sounds here and that production once the Nina Simone sample kicks in is just wow. This truly was the foundation for something great something she'd achieve consistently on 2018's Room25 Expand

Wow. You have to be a special kind of artist to release a debut mixtape with this much style. This powerful, unique blend of neo-soul, R&B and hip-hop stood alone in 2016. This is a memorable piece which ironically cemented Noname as a go-to name in the Chicago hip-hop scene.

It’s a record swathed in simple but effective neo-soul melodies, echoing Chance, but also early 00s R&B with its gentle pianos and smattering of light hi-hats and percussion. Warner’s own languid style of delivery only adds to the lilting nature.

Telefone is a unique project that points to even greater things for Noname in the future.

[Noname] enlists a cast of varied, rich voices: Raury’s starry eyed spirituality, Xavier Omär’s velvet croon, and Cam O’bi, who sums up the record’s charms perfectly on Diddy Bop: “This sounds like growing out my clothes, with stars in my pocket, dreaming about making my hood glow.”
