Within months, Grande faces a broken engagement and the death of Mac Miller. What she had managed to communicate and achieve with Sweetener, namely personal security and self-confidence, is shattered again. Grande recognizes the need to tell herself again: she does not hesitate to compose and work on a new album that is capable to expose how she feels.
Not only is Thank U, Next even more personal than Sweetener, it's also a step forward sonically. Maintaining a strong pop and R&B foundation, influences from hip hop and trap music are as strong as ever: Grande's versatility still doesn't disappoint, while her naturally pleasing vocal virtuosity continues to blow our minds.
Textually, Thank U, Next promises to be a high quality record, with an emotional participation at times moving. Grande is once again a singer-songwriter, in a decidedly evident way, helped by a group of very close collaborators and friends. The track Ghostin is an evident proof of this step forward, representing the most personal track by the singer in her entire discography.
The ability of Grande and her team in reconciling what is commercially attractive and what is qualitatively good is still felt, starting from the lead single of the same name. Thank U, Next, perhaps the most pop track within the project, is among Grande's most personal singles, despite being decidedly captivating also from a musical point of view. 7 Rings and Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I'm Bored, the other two singles on the record, promise to be the most textually frivolous tracks, but for Grande and her collaborators this is legitimate: after two years of suffering, the singer wants to devote herself again to a type of music capable of making the listener entertain and dance, and make her forget the negativity that led her to see everything in black and white. And a little irony undoubtedly helps.
Thank U, Next has few flaws: despite the presence of the filler track Make Up, certainly among the most superficial ever written by Grande, all the songs are of excellent quality from every point of view. Ariana Grande's fifth album is the opposite of a disappointment: it leaves you speechless.

Um album muito bom, inegável que tem uns traps bem genéricos e uns 'yah' desnecessários, mas é um dos melhores projetos de Ariana Grande

    Pontos Positivos: "ghostin", "borderline", "NASA"

Pontos Negativos: "imagine", produção muito repetitiva nas músicas

Not one of my favorite Ariana’s album, but it’s a complete work. There are some songs that feels remaining in this record, and would’ve be better out of it. One of the highlights of the album is the track “ghostin” a very personal and emotional song. Its singles were pretty well chosen.

I can safely say that it is the best album of Ariana's career. Very well thought out and crafted. All tracks had the potential to be singles.

I'm sorry but this album aged like milk. She cannot top Dangerous Woman. She needs to reinvent her next album. I fear in her success if still continues like this.

My most listened album EVER, with over 3000 scrobbles (doesn’t count YouTube, radio etc..). 3.5 years later (I FEEL SO OLD OH MY GOD), i can say that it’s her easiest album - other than one really heavy song it’s an album u want to listen to over and over for that high feeling that u might be ariana herself. Some songs aged poorly for me, like NASA, some never did it to me (the soulless in my head - and i know ppl will kill me for this lmao) but the pop candies (the singles, makeup, bloodline, fake smile), and the strong two tracks (the incredible imagine and the beautiful needy - even tho the background production is still pumped in my head after all these years lol) and even the two houseless songs that feel like they belong in the album: monopoly and boyfriend - are all doing exactly what they’re meant to do. Anyways, I miss 2019 i wanna cry, i miss when ariana ruled the world, i miss that era. Will forever remember it. Expand

it's an album with so many layers, and if you explore them all you'll see how in reality it often shows a cruel and lonely reality, but you also see pleasure in solitude (and in money lol). it's well produced, well written and the vocals are amazing, its tracks don't even have a skip, I say with certainty that it's the perfect pop album, and the best of ariana grande

Once again Grande did the best thing she could do with traumatic events: turning them into great music. Thank U, Next is the most truthful, yet playful, nevertheless sad, music diary recently released.

One of the best albums by the vocalist of this generation Ariana Grande. The lyrics are completely insane and special because every song is 100% related to a moment of Ariana’s life. thank u, next builds on Sweetener by switching modes of scale. It’s less about looking at the world than being by yourself, more focused on the textures of memory than our actions stemming from it. ... thank u, next is also Ariana’s most stunning vocal album.

[7 Rings] is a hit, but isn’t actually all that great, using Rodgers and Hammerstein’s My Favourite Things as its sing-song musical base. The rest of the album remains of interest for its evolutions in sound, delivery and attitude.
