One of the greatest albums of all time this is The Beatles at their most experimental. They made it self-titled because it was a complete reinvention of their sound.

The Beatles never sounded better. The drums and bass are louder and clearer on the remixes. My favorite part were the Esher demos. It's so much fun to listen to the songs unplugged and unfinished.

Overall this is one of the best albums of the 20th century and my personal favourite of The Beatles. The combination of soul, vocals and lyrics are almost perfect. Listen to: Happiness is a Warm Gun, I Will, Blackbird, Back in the USSR.

Sounds better than I ever could have thought. I'm still discovering new little details that I never heard in the originals.

Giles Martin has done a remarkable job in breathing new life into this classic Beatles album. Four artists at the top of their game and the Esher demos are a real delight. The shackles were off and they were left to their own devices and what a masterpiece they produced. The White Album is certainly the Beatles’ most mature effort … and maybe, just maybe, rock ’n’ roll’s best too.

Besides the band's disunity in full display, the album is very good. I love variety, but I think this album has a bit too many tracks which are two different from one another, but some tracks are so iconic where they kind of make up for it.

While itThe Beatles' self-titled double album, commonly referred to as the "White Album," is a sprawling and eclectic masterpiece that showcases the band's unparalleled versatility and artistic depth. Released in 1968, this ambitious collection of songs encompasses a wide range of styles and genres, reflecting the diverse musical influences and creative experimentation of the Fab Four. While it may not have the same cohesiveness as some of their previous works, the White Album remains a testament to The Beatles' immense talent and their ability to push boundaries.

One of the most striking aspects of the White Album is its sheer scope. With 30 tracks spanning over two LPs, the album is a treasure trove of musical exploration. From the infectious rock 'n' roll of "Back in the U.S.S.R." to the haunting introspection of "Julia," and from the playful absurdity of "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da" to the raw emotion of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," each song presents a unique sonic experience. This diversity can be both exhilarating and overwhelming, but it is a testament to the band's fearlessness in exploring new territories.

While some critics argue that the White Album could have benefited from some editing, it is precisely this sprawling nature that adds to its charm and intrigue. The album's raw and unpolished quality gives it a sense of authenticity and captures a moment in The Beatles' evolution as musicians and individuals. The stripped-down nature of tracks like "Blackbird" and "Dear Prudence" highlights the band's exceptional songwriting skills and their ability to convey profound emotions with simplicity.

The White Album also showcases the individual talents of each Beatle. The contrast between Paul McCartney's melodic sensibility and John Lennon's introspective and sometimes caustic lyricism is evident throughout the album. George Harrison's contributions, such as the soulful "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," demonstrate his growth as a songwriter. Ringo Starr's drumming, although often understated, provides a solid foundation for the band's musical explorations.

The production on the White Album is relatively stripped-down compared to their earlier works, reflecting the band's desire to move away from the elaborate studio experimentation of Sgt. Pepper's and Magical Mystery Tour. The more organic approach allows the songs to shine through, emphasizing the band's musicianship and the power of their performances. It is this rawness that gives the album a timeless quality and makes it feel as relevant today as it did upon its release.

Despite its occasional meandering and a few tracks that may be considered filler, the White Album is an extraordinary testament to The Beatles' artistic brilliance. Its influence on popular music cannot be overstated, with its impact still felt today. With its blend of rock, folk, blues, and avant-garde elements, the album embodies The Beatles' musical adventurousness and their willingness to defy expectations.

In conclusion, the White Album is a seminal work in The Beatles' discography, earning a rating of 9/10. While it may not have the same cohesive narrative as some of their other albums, it remains a testament to the band's talent, versatility, and fearless creativity. Its vast array of styles and memorable compositions make it a must-listen for any music lover, offering a glimpse into the brilliance of one of the greatest bands in history.

The percussive snap and enhanced reverb on "Yer Blues" and "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" make the songs all the more blistering, but overall, any flourishes are carefully considered. Better still, the true revelations occur after the familiar first 94 minutes are up.

At least half of the 30 songs in The Beatles stand among the best of their career. Now, with this carefully detailed and appreciative restoration of how they were developed (from the beginning to end), this boxed set is yet more proof that genius doesn't take time so much as concerted, focused effort, and there is no way to trace the roots of perfect sonic chemistry. You just know it when you hear it.
