What’s My Name dares you to continue listening, to see if you can make it through its first song without spontaneously combusting from second-hand embarrassment, a spectral groan of “Grandaaad” escaping from your ashes as they sizzle and singe. ... But perhaps opening with such a heinous song is actually a genius move. In isolation, they might not fare so well but, after that, nothing else sounds as bad.

It all thumps along agreeably with a brio seldom found in rock today by artists a quarter of his age. [Dec 2019, p.92]

As is the case with most of his releases the past decade or so, Ringo addresses his own career with a heavy dose of nostalgia. [Dec 2019, p.32]

Often, his good cheer comes across as corny, a situation accentuated by the big, bright surfaces -- it's the work of pros who are working at home, seeking only to please themselves. As the spirits are sunny and the songs tuneful, it's hard not to find What's My Name ingratiating, even though much of the album is so good-intentioned, it's silly.

Nobody's pretending that this album is a masterpiece, but it's convivial. [Dec 2019, p.85]

As a Ringo fan, overall it's a disappointing record. I think they could have picked a better John Lennon song to cover. It's just reallyAs a Ringo fan, overall it's a disappointing record. I think they could have picked a better John Lennon song to cover. It's just really average compared to the great Ringo records RingoRama, Vertical Man, liverpool 8, Choose Love... Don't know what I was expecting, he's nearly 80. There's some enjoyment to be had here though. My favourites are Magic, Better Days, It's a bit worse than Give More Love, but there are still like I said enjoyable moments to be had. Expand
