Production is fantastic and packed with such small details and features. Very basic in terms of lyricism and mostly melodic throughout, I would of liked a track of two with more depth like prevoious projects and tackles the subject of mental health in a very well held manner and still holds a lot of room for relistening

No weak moment just like Pusha T's Daytona. Kanye's production and lyrics are on point throughout. Personal, thoughtful and somewhat conceptual. All the features came through with amazing performances. High while all the songs are flawless, I feel like some are stronger than others. Most notably All Mine and Ghost Town. Overall, very pleasant listen.

Very melodic album which shows Kanye in a new light. He seems more vulnerable but at the same time stronger than only one year ago. Thus 'YE' is a return to a more careful sound that is not afraid to tell you how life can go both up and down all in the matter of a minute. Brilliant construction and definately an underated classic.

Despite this, some tracks were not fully executed especially the first track, where he is speaking for around a minute. I'd understand skits and interludes in an album like TLOP, but this was a too short album for time to be wasted. In my opinion, this is one of Kanye's lesser greater albums, but in saying that it is still an amazing album compared to other rap albums. I just think Kanye put too much focus in Daytona to worry about his own album, but that is what all great producer's do like Dr. Dre, who instead of advancing his career made music for the likes of 50 cent and Eminem. Therefore, this album for me would be a 78 which would round up to an 8 out of 10. To Kanye's standards the album was not too great, but compared to other hip hop albums, it was an excellent project and I am comparing this to other hip hop albums. Strewth. Expand

The album’s song assortment feels surprisingly eclectic, moreso than Pablo. With Yikes being the familiar (dare I say vintage) Kanye “line them up & knock them down”, Ghost Town sporting the melo, airy and vocally-focused “stop and look around” vibe.... and then All Mine, which almost feels like it has dashes of Tyler the Creator sprinkled in its latter half. All to say (flowery pseudo critic adjectives aside), I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the album. These past 12-18 months have been such a mixed bag of new releases, and Ye is a much needed avalanche of originality. It’s music. And after all, that’s why we’re here, isn’t it? Expand

Kanye gives us 7 beautiful tracks with near zero flaws about mental illness and family. It's a spiritual awakening of sorts and an extremely important album for kanye himself. Feels like t's made for himself and real fans more than for the publics acceptance like he did for My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. Easily the most personal record he's done, it can be an emotional listen for kanye fans.

The first 3 tracks are manic and all over the place. Adopting Yeezus and Pablo style personas and sound on mental health, loneliness, ego, lust, and depression. "I Thought About Killing You" is striking right off the bat talking about his ego and possible bi polar reference then has a few words for his haters and struggling friendships. "Yikes" is a full on manic episode about mental health, and referencing his "breakthrough." "All Mine" is the catchiest song sounding like it could've been on Life Of Pablo with Kanye throwing comical bars on social commentary and sex. "Wouldn't Leave" separates the album with an apology dedicated to Kim. It seems so personal to the point it felt no one else but her was supposed to hear it. The last 3 tracks change tone completely, they feel nostalgic and soulful; songs about family and redemption. No Mistakes is classic kanye straight outta 2007. Ghost Town is the most beautiful track on the album, with an innovative sound mixing 60s pop and pete rock. Violent Crimes ends it with a track dedicated to his daughter, personal favorite.

My only complaint is i wish it was 11 or 12 songs! I believe the reception would've changed so much if that were the case. The other Wyoming projects produced from Kanye have a very big production that the albums feel full. This is the only one that is raw and stripped down so i do think that effects the 7 tracks feeling incomplete in a way. Yeezy season and Good Fridays are back!

ye is Kanye's rawest, most emotionally invested album to date, and in my opinion his best. Kicking off with "I Thought About Killing You", where Ye discusses his thoughts of taking his own life, his bipolar. The production on this track, and all the others as well, is unique and makes the album much more interesting, greatly adding to the tone each song gives off. He speaks the first half of the track, sort of thinking out loud, towards the end of which he says he should "Say something good so it doesn't come off bad" and that if he was trying to "relate it to more people i would say I'm struggling with loving myself, but thats not the case". This is followed by Yikes, where Kanye addresses his God complex as well as the thoughts in his head. He talks about the controversy he's created leading up toe release. For classic Ye fans, this is probably the only song that will be enjoyable, which is a big thing with this album, the tracks are more lyrical and emotionally driven than they are driven to be these Game Changing Kanye BANGERZ that he has been know to drop throughout his career. All Mine is a simple beat, great production, for the most part lyrics that don't fit the theme of the album, all around decent track. On Wouldn't Leave Ye starts to talk more about controversies and what this negative attention has done to him and his family. He's kind of saying on the chorus he knew the people that saw these and would get angry at him for saying these things would not go away, would still listen to him and the record. On No Mistakes he seems to have this happier, more carefree attitude that he hasn't had the rest of the record. He seems more content and accepting of what gets fired at him. Following that is Ghost Town which is easily going to be one of the best singles of the year. He talks about pretty much everything here, from the controversies to to his bipolar, and 070 Shake's verse at the end about "nothing hurting anymore" closes out the track very very nicely. Closing out the record we have Violent Crimes where Kanye talks about being savage and ruthless until a child come along. Talking about people being crazy until their daughter comes into world and becoming protective of their kid, telling her not to "grow up in a hurry". The album closes out with a voicemail from Nicki Minaj, spitting a couple lines from earlier in Kanye's verse, asking him to make sure the fans hear it.

Overall the album is an emotional journey, the thing as a whole after a couple listens can even be a little tear jerking. The production, as i said previously is really really good, original, not like much I've heard this year at least. Kanye's voice, the way he portrays his emotions, he sounds beat down, broken, listening closely you can feel the raw emotions he has throughout. Even his features compliment the tones on each track, Cudi and shake on Ghost Town especially, as well as everyone on Violent Crimes. I personally believe that eventually people will begin to warm up to this record and realize this is one of Ye's best, if not the best thing he's put out to date. This easily going to be in my Top 10 of the year and overall a very strong 9/10.

What I love about "ye" so much is that it's consistent. Kanye only discusses his hardships, depression, suicidal urges, etc. The opening track lets the listener immediately know what they're in for. Such songs as "No Mistakes" and "Ghost Town" fill me with euphoria in the same way as "Reborn" does (from KIDS SEE GHOSTS). I don't know how else to word it other than: it morphs somber into strength. When I think back to this album, it just feels like an 10/10, it earned that score. It has its imperfections but they make me love the LP so much more! As a final note, I find a lot more enjoyment out of this album when listening to DAYTONA right before it, and KIDS SEE GHOSTS right after. Expand

Pretty good album. I like all of the songs a lot. But also All Mine is a very iffy song to me, sometimes I like it and sometimes I don't. Kinda weird.

This album really takes into perspective how Kanye is feeling and what goes on through his brain throughout all of his daily struggles, and I feel he does this perfectly with this album. Wish it had more tracks to it, but I do think this album gets the message through clearly, as well as the songs being very catchy and great while also diving into the brain of Kanye West. Ye is a very short but beautiful piece of work. Each track has its own brilliant qualities and the project as whole is unbelievably entertaining thematically, the only track I have a problem with is parts on No Mistakes which seems to be the most out of place which is what most people seek to be its biggest flaw. However, I just can't seem to understand how people can't enjoy this project.

a deeper album for Kanye with his diagnoses of being bipolar really **** with his head and on this album it shows it has some really messy tracks with all mine being a skip and a lot of weird themes with the album but it has amazing tracks like ghost town, no mistakes, violent crimes and wouldn't leave

The intro track is genius, some very strong tracks in this short list, but overall an enjoyable listen and feels a more matured version of Kanye.

Ye is a good album, for me is a short yet concise album, which sometimes plays in favor or against Ye, but the biggest problem is the lack of exploration on Ye's bipolar disorder, nevertheless I think and I hope this album will age really good, almost as good as Yeezus did. Basically, it falls short in comparison to his previous work, regardless it is pretty solid. Strong 7 or maybe even an 8.

Ye was enjoyable but is really carried by the final two tracks. Tracks 1-5 are just kinda subpar. But the reason this is a positive review is that Ghost Town and more specifically Violent Crimes and top tier tracks. I remember listening to these last couple tracks on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and was absolutely in awe. Just solid but wish the first 5 tracks could live up to the last two.

A short but crazy good album, the vibe is point on, and every song is a hit. Favorite song: Ghost Town

A grower. Upon first listen I didn't think much of it but after another listen and a video from turning the tables I grew to love it. Damn, this is not what I expected going into this album. The opening track "I thought about killing you" is a real good introduction to the themes and vibe of this album. You can interpret the track in two ways which I like as well. The track "Violent crimes" is also one that goes really deep into the thoughts of Kanye, which is weird since the song is ghost written. That takes a bit the credit away off of the song, but it's still great. "Ghost Town and All MIne" are just real radio songs, I dunno what he did on "All mine" but it just works, the fast rap/singing with the bubbly beat. In my opinion the track "yikes" takes a turn for the worse, that's the only track I don't really like that much even though it's on the short side. I don't like the beat and the rapping on this. "Wouldn't leave" has a great chorus by PARTYNEXTDOOR and the lyrics and rap by Kanye are also fantastic, same can be said for the track "No mistakes", I LOVE the Slick Rick sample, I dunno why but it gives it a real nostalgic feeling.

Overall this is just a great Kanye project and in my opinion it's underrated and overhated by critics. But I'm glad people enjoy the album for what it is even though it doesn't have that many bangers, it's a really viby and chill album.

Fav tracks: I thought about killing you, All mine, no mistakes, ghost town, violent crimes
    Least fav track: Yikes

ye is an average album with some good songs, some bad songs, and some songs that will clearly be spun millions of times. The problem is that "average" has never been good enough for Kanye West nor should it be.

For all his power as a motivating force it’s perhaps inevitable that Ye proves weakest of the first four. Left to his own devices West sounds bewildered, somewhere between awe and exhaustion. [Aug 2018, p.63]

Ye can feel uneven, sometimes boring, and more indulgent than usual, but it's a fascinating peek into West's psyche.
