Lady Gaga is a name people either love or hate, and for me, I appreciate her style as I find it different than most pop singers out there. My problem with Gaga is her albums, as they tend to be more fillers rather than fun songs. Finally Gaga has delivered an album where almost every song can be considered a hit song. ARTPOP isn't perfect, but it delivers plenty of great production value, terrific songs, and amazing pace to keep things flowing just right. The first half is a standout, starting off with "Aura" then "Venus", "G.U.Y" and "Sexxx Dreams". The biggest surprise is the track "Jewels N' Drugs" which could've been a disaster, but works as a really cool hip-hop influenced pop song (take some notes Miley Cyrus). Other standouts include "MANiCURE", "Do What U Want", "Swine", "Fashion!", and "Mary Jane Holland", the whole album feels like a really awesome musical, with the finale being the big hit "Applause". Another great surprise is that the slow songs are few, and luckily are worth a listen, which include "Dope" and "Gypsy". Problems are that the story does get lost at points and feels a little too hypnotic. Also a few songs feel a too showy like the song"ARTPOP". But overall, ARTPOP can't quite get up to the level of being art, but it certainly gets close, and what we're left with is a superb pop album that may be Lady Gaga's best yet. Expand

Concisely, the album feels almost alike a strange sequel to her debut album, “The Fame.” It deals with some of the same topics and motifs. Fame, sex, drugs, the negative and positive connotations of success and popularity, all are themes discussed. But with ARTPOP, Gaga attempts to take the topic of pop culture, the fame, and mix it with art. In essence, she takes what Andy Warhol did with his paintings and photography, and reverses it, pouring the creation of art into a medium, in her case, her music and public image. As such, the album feels more uniformed, and more fulfilling than “The Fame.” Unlike her enormously successful debut album however, ARTPOP does not contain massively worldwide hits ala “Just Dance” or “Poker Face.” But when dealing with ARTPOP as an album in full, that’s perfectly fine. Gaga unlike most modern artists always attempts to create a cohesive idea, a balanced number of songs that play together, rather than create an album full of unsystematic and unhinged cheap singles. 8/10 Expand

Fun, over the top, humoristic, quirky, dazzling... Easily this year's best pop album. My favorites: Mary Jane Holland, Do What U Want, G.U.Y and ARTPOP.

This is one of the best pop albums ever. A lot o greatest beats and sounds. The only issue here is "Dope", a ballad out of place. But, other songs like "ARTPOP" and "Gypsy" are pretty awesome.

The only thing impressive about this record is the fact that Gaga somehow manages to come off as pretentious even through her music. Yet again, Gaga just tries way too hard to be "creative" and "artistic." ARTPOP is plagued track after track with stupid and unrelatable lyrics. None of the collaborations have any chemistry. She wails and over-sings on every track. Mess.

The album is really bad. Songs are only about sex, drugs and money. Instrumentals suck [just like lyrics and voice]. Disappointing after great albums as Born This Way and The Fame Monster.

The answer to that question here is... yes. This album SLAMS from front to back, it is relentless surging energy. I personally wasn't crazy about Dope because the whole album is like a sweaty rave and then Dope comes in like a hangover and makes the party shut down. Otherwise, this thing is party music, get wasted, grab your friends and have a with this thing. Listening to Lady Gaga for anything besides party music is like watching Rambo for engaging and tear jerking acting performances, stop being dumb. Expand

ARTPOP is filled with unique pop music that cannot be matched with other pop artists. There are songs on the album that truly show her diverse talent and creativity. However, I feel the "Art" aspect of it is missing on the album. Not a big deal since her live performance are very, very artistic. Overall, it's an amazing pop album with great potential to exploit great art performances.

Best Pop/EDM album of 2013. There is pop, EDM, dance, guitar, rap, RnB, dubstep,... in this album which make album more creative and not boring such as Prism or Bangerz.

This is the worst album of 2013. Can't even receive a KCA. How can people buy this? I mean. This is so disgusting. Now I know why this album is such a big flop. THIS ALBUM IS SO HORRIBLE, AND THE LYRICS ARE SO MEANINGLESS. GAGA IS OVER, SORRY.

This is another album showing that Lady Gaga aims at the wrong thing. Although some songs in the albums are marvelous (Venus, G.U.Y., MANiCURE, Gypsy & Applause), the rest of the songs are focusing on explicit things, like drugs and sex etc.

I watched her 2013 iTunes Festival, and her songs were not as good as before. The beats are not attractive at all, and the topics of the songs are scattered. ARTPOP has no central topic.
Since 2008, I fell in love with Lady Gaga because of her The Fame and The Fame Monster, mainly because the songs are catchy and the beats are good. However, in ARTPOP, Lady Gaga failed to deliver her message successfully and Zedd (to be honest, although I like him very much) is not as good as RedOne or Fernando Garibay.
Some of the songs (Jewels N' Drugs, Fashion! & Mary Jane Holland) are really BAD. The are just like CRAP. And I dunno why Lady Gaga intend to put these songs into ARTPOP.
I am basically dissatisfied with ARTPOP and I hope to see The Fame Gaga or The Fame Monster Gaga in the coming future.

This record is amazing. I can't stand the mixed or negative reviews this album gets when compared to the artistical. some songs you can dance forever to (Venus and Aura), some are some nice slower songs (Dope), and then there's songs that just get you all fired up (G.U.Y and Sexxx Dreams)! Zedd's touch to songs like Aura

Her first major hit, "Just Dance," is a cleverly constructed account of being deliriously drunk but stringing together a solid evening; because it posed as an enduring electro-pop jam, that cleverness was bestowed to a huge audience. Since then, Gaga has done everything in her power to turn pop music into a grounds for discovery that goes beyond face value, from bold fashion selections to sprawling live set-ups to artiste collaborations to cultural engagements that go well beyond the transition of a verse into a chorus. When Gaga wanted to herald a social movement, she focused the first single on her pivotal "Born This Way" on LGBTQ rights; when she wanted to clue the unaware in on the magic of Jeff Koons, she hired the world-class artist to create a nude replica of her "Fame" persona for her latest album cover. Sure, there are times when the simple pleasure of a verse and a chorus is enough to satisfy, but Gaga has always demanded more and when she has found success, she has upheld achievements that no other pop artist has sniffed.

"ARTPOP," the follow-up to "Born This Way," naturally abides by this far-reaching ambition and looks to re-think the "pop album" as an entity, even more than Lady Gaga's last album did. It's not surprising that "ARTPOP" will be packaged with an interactive app that blends music, art, fashion and technology together, since that is precisely what "ARTPOP" the album tries to actualize; Gaga is grasping more cultural trinkets than ever before, and wants to synthesize them into one mind-blowing, 15-song statement. When Gaga balances these skyward designs with dynamic songwriting when she successfully mixes the 'art' with the 'pop,' if you will the results are often euphoric. "Dope" and "Gypsy" are compelling accounts of personal hell and heaven on the back half of the album, and when the midway run of the seductive "Sex Dreams," boisterous "Jewels n' Drugs," effervescent "MANiCURE" and slithering "Do What U Want" takes hold, it's a long-player experience unlike anything a pop fan will hear this year. Of course, some of the more convoluted tracks sputter out before Gaga can carry her vision through, but even the weakest moments on "ARTPOP" are so carefully built and ardently imagined that one cannot help but admire the effort.

Coherently channeling R&B, techno, disco and rock music as a pop artist while discussing sex, drugs, lust, God, fame and creativity, Lady Gaga has offered fans her most sonically and lyrically diverse album to date. "ARTPOP" is imperfect, but so is its creator. It is a complicated album that should be applauded (pun intended) for inspiring interpretation, as well as telling fans that it's also okay to just dance.

Whats often unacknowledged regarding the majority of negative Gaga articles is the way that people throw objectivity out the window and just project. Theres rarely loose ties, rarely rationale, just biased malarkey equivalent to some old queen annoyed by the fact that the younger generation has taken a liking to something they feel they've already seen or some jaded artist that scoffs at the fact that this blatantly commercial entity in popular culture dares to consider herself an artist if even remotely.

Lady Gaga is a contemporary commercial pop star that very much acknowledges and thinks of herself as a commercial pop star as well as an artist. Her intent on fusing art into her career isn't through the music so much as it is her general image which if you actually have paid proper attention to her and her goal within her career has always been her intention.

I see way too many critiques centering their entire articles trying to take her down a peg by harping on the fact that shes not experimental enough in sound for her to be allowed to consider herself an artist and nearly completely brush aside the fact that this album succeeds in its attempt to be a solid commercial pop record with great hooks and interesting references/samples that once again prove her to be a step above most of her contemporaries (Perry, Minaj, Rihanna). This album is imperfect (has everyone become so hellbent on "putting her in her place" that we ignore the fact that perfection is a rarity anyway?), but its the furthest thing from a travesty. Its one of the best commercial pop records released this year.
