This is not even close to as good as her last album, all I hear is noise and autotune, the girl just does not have it anymore and that is sad since her last album was pretty good

So far this year, ARTPOP serves to be one of the best pop albums. Even the sounds are somehow similar to The Fame, and even BTW, they are full of fun and you can't deny that most of them are so catchy and will stock in your ear for some times.

They are waste track, such as Jewels N' Drug, even the album title track, Artpop.

Most of the people say they found hard to understand where's the 'art' in the album. But, every music, whatever it is, is an art. You don't put words such as, 'Picasso', 'Warhol', etc. for your music to embodies art. Maybe, Gaga is trying to sell the 'art' in how she present her music, from some intro in the song, the album cover, sculpture made by Koons, even the mural in presenting the track list.
Sometimes, Gaga is over the top with her artistic side, but you'll always be pleased with her performance with whatever she's done. This album is one of the proof. This less than The Fame Monster, but somehow beat Born This Way.
If you're a pop fan, you'll be happy and satisfied with this album. Artpop has more ups than down.
Artpop is massive in terms of sounds, lyrics and production.

Very mixed opinions on it... though I admire her creativity, the production sounds flat, almost like there are levels left out. The good songs are outweighed by the bad and the lyrics are badly written and mostly meaningless attempts at the avant-garde. This is her worst album; Gaga has been going downhill since The Fame Monster.

ARTPOP is not at all a worthless album, but unfortunately due to its hype will more than likely disappoint and ostracize Gaga’s Little Monsters as it lacks enough originality or even weirdness to be interesting.

This album is one of Gaga's best work to date. It deserves a much higher score than it has. It is light years better than anything her contemporaries have put out. Gaga continues pushing the boundaries of pop music with yet another album. Album highlights: Gypsy, G.U.Y, Sexxx Dreams, Do What U Want and Swine. This album is a solid 10 out of 10.

Personally, those are some of the highlights off the album and sure to be hit singles on the radio. The amount of work that was put into this album by Gaga, DJWS, Zedd and every other major collaborator is evident. Yes, the album isn't perfect, but what album is? We put Gaga on such a high pedestal and expect her to blow us away with EVERYTHING. It isn't going to happen, for her to come up with an album that has 9-10 strong tracks 3 decent songs and just a couple weak ones is an accomplishment many artists won't be able to dream of. This album brings pop forward again, she has us talking, singing and dancing. We don't deserve this album, its the best that has been released in 2013 by far. There is so much talent out there that doesn't hit it's potential, at times that is Gaga, but this album proves she is here to stay and "slay" the pop music world. Gaga revolutionized the pop industry... again.

Easily explained she was a corporate, manufactured pop product from the beginning. The early years only look decent because all the right people (LaurieAnne Gibson, Troy Carter, etc.) were pulling her strings. Now that everyone has jumped ship, and she's on her own, she's being revealed for the utter crap she ALWAYS was.

"ArtPop" Gaga herself is really just the prime example of how utterly dead our culture is.

Bought out and sold by corporations... easily fooled with stupid costumes and crazy antics... devoid of any soul, meaning, perspective... re-hash and cheapen the past and sell it to those who don't know any better... BUT marketed to us as "ART" or "I struggled, I'm the real deal", etc... And far too many have been dumbed down to actually buy into it.

Sad statement on our state of culture...esp. when the actual 'real deal' is still wiping the floor with all of them 30+ years on but people have been brain-washed to dismiss her because she's "old"

It took two and a half years for Gaga to produce a follow up to Born This Way. She took her time, but made sure that every single detail was accounted for. Over 100 songs were written for this album and she managed to narrow it down to 15. She also mentioned that ARTPOP would be a lyrical departure from Born This Way in the sense that it wouldn't be a mature, but carefree rather. Every song tells its own story and is burning with passion. THESE SONGS WILL MAKE YOU WANT TO DANCE. THEY WILL MAKE YOU WANT TO SING ALONG. THEY ARE ALL INCREDIBLE IN THEIR OWN WAY. ARTPOP is one of those few albums that you wound up playing 3 times completely without stopping. If you have the luxury of professional headphones, you will also notice that the song sounds completely different with them (in a good way of course).

What really shocks me about the reviews that this album has gotten is the fact that critics say that she lacks creativity, the sounds are dull and that her lyrics are pure There is no other album where an artist will use the roman pantheon as a metaphor for sex as in "Venus" or fuse dubstep with trap and screamo to discuss the negative influences of superior authorities as in "Swine". There is much that is fresh with this album and she is not trying hard just to be different and "avant garde". She is simply making great music that should be greatly appreciated. In addition, she actually writes her own lyrics, something that is a rarity nowadays. The song "Gypsy" is my favorite off the album and just listening to it makes you want to cry for how beautiful it is.

In the end, ARTPOP dethrones every album that has been released this year. You should definitely listen to this musical ecstasy.

The album in my opinion has no fillers per se, minus the upset that is Jewels and Drugs. While the album is not revolutionary, it is a high quality electronic album that provides unique dance rhythms and great production work. I would almost say it's Gaga on steroids so if she's outdone herself in any way with this album its probably in polarizing those who listen to it. Something she does better than just about anyone on the planet.

My thoughts on some of the tracks -

Dope I feel like she falls a little flat with these ballads. I think there just isn't enough vulnerability coming through in her vocals. Not my insight, I read it from one of the newspaper reviewers that was generally favorable towards the album but I think they're dead on. She doesn't seem to be able to pull off vulnerability on these ballads for whatever reason. When she tries it's just a little overdone.

Fashion! This is the most underrated cut on the album for me. I didn't expect to enjoy this one just based on title but it really stood out to me on second listen. The vocal hooks are compelling and there is nothing labored about any part of it in my view. From the glittering piano intro through to the dreamlike verse and outro I feel like this is one of the few tracks that works on every level, albeit "reductively" from Madonna's standpoint. But for me, it's good enough to transcend that. Perhaps she should work with David Guetta more often.

Gypsy This falls into the Edge of Glory mold for me. Just in terms of the tempo and the springsteen like vocals in places. I'm kind of amazed many of the critics consider this and Dope to be highlights of the album. I just don't find either that memorable.

Applause Just a great song that captures the essence of her sound. Is it as good as Just Dance? No. Does that make it a complete and utter failure? That strikes me as a little unfair in that the song really does stands on it's own. And I would not have said that about, say, Judas which
sounded to me like a lesser, uninspired version of Bad Romance.

Aura Here is a song that had me asking what the F* is wrong with her until the chorus. But what a lovely chorus it is. I also think the the lyrics come off better when they are not taken literally as if every word refers specifically to Gaga's personal situation and they have no meaning beyond that. I found it kind of amusing when critics pounced on the idea of her appropriating the burqa when the whole thrust of the song is to challenge the very notion that it should be off limits. If she is moved by the burqa ("It's not a statement as much as just a move of passion") and while acknowledging she was not raised as part of the culture ("I may not walk on your street or shoot a gun on your soil") she can still relate on an emotional, human level to those who are part of it and wants to understand that perspective ("I hear you screaming is it because of pleasure or toil?"). Is it too much to read into this verse a challenge to cultural relativism? Maybe. But i think there is sometimes more to her lyrics then the critics can be bothered to understand before they start sharpening their knives. Or maybe I am just reading too much into things because all she does is write about herself. Narcissist.

Am I giving her points just based on the fact that is sounds like she is actually the creative force behind her own album and not a committee of songwriters producing what amount to a prepackaged mix tape? Yes.

I find an ambitious, challenging and yes imperfect album which is largely the work of one individual (or musical partnership) to be more interesting and inspiring than a prepacked singles mix written by the same mercenaries that wrote many of the hit songs for britney, n-synch, the backstreet boys, kelly clarkson... you get the idea. Gaga, Adele, Sara Bareilles and Ellie Goulding, to me these are some of the current pop stars that have released albums that they alone could have made. If a review is ultimately a review of the artist, not just the record, then i'm not sure how this just gets set aside as irrelevant. Yet
the professional "reviewers" show little interest in reviewing the extent to which albums have been manufactured as factory products for mass consumption.

The collection of tracks kicks off in style with the unique 'Aura', combining Middle Eastern melodies with some attitude-laced vocals and a chorus like no other. Controversial, perhaps, but one heck of a song.

'Venus' and 'G.U.Y.' follow unique and exciting tracks with great production value, and while they may not strike the right chords immediately, a few listens and they'll be growing on you at a rapid pace.

One of her best songs to date 'Sexxx Dreams' comes next, and without too much of a heavy bassline or overproduction it manages to impress on a completely new level.

Her versatility is shown on 'Jewels N' Drugs' probably not everybody's cup of tea, but the proof (if she ever needed it) that she isn't just a one trick pop pony.

'MANiCURE' is the best of the album rock-based with pop vibes and perfect guitar solos that'd sound great in the clubs. This needs to get the single treatment from Gaga and her team it'd be such a waste to see it ignored.

What can be said about 'Do What U Want', other than it's the perfect hit back at critics who slate her for trying her damn hardest at everything she puts her hands to? The R Kelly addition is a welcome one, and should keep the mouths shut of those who opposed his feature on the album before even hearing his verse.

The title track is absolutely stunning, with banshee-like calls on the backing track that really add to the eerie yet laid-back feel of the tune.

Personal track 'Swine' is another that has the ability to set the nightclub scene alight, with some fantastic EDM and distorted vocals that do well to resemble the animal itself.

An alter-ego is used throughout 'Donatella' or so we'd hope as Gaga sings about being a "rich b**ch" on yet another fabulously produced track.

Similarly, 'Mary Jane Holland' states "I am rich as p**s", but it doesn't take away from the greatness of the rest of the tune.

'Fashion!' and 'Dope' are personally my choices for weakest of the album, but that isn't to say they're completely awful. Every song here has something to offer.

'Gypsy' dazzles, exploring the notion of travelling the world and being a popstar, having to make each and every country you visit your home.

Ending on the under-appreciated 'Applause', the album does indeed get a raucous hand from me.

EDM-infused smashes come time and time again she's really hit the nail on the head with what she was trying to achieve.

The album is well a work of art. It runs in perfect order, as if it were made as the soundtrack to a musical with only a few blemishes that Gaga manages to powder up and gloss over without too much effort.

A stellar contender for the album of 2013 Gaga's got away from preaching and is working hard on getting us to 'Just Dance'. Bravo.

Her first major hit, "Just Dance," is a cleverly constructed account of being deliriously drunk but stringing together a solid evening; because it posed as an enduring electro-pop jam, that cleverness was bestowed to a huge audience. Since then, Gaga has done everything in her power to turn pop music into a grounds for discovery that goes beyond face value, from bold fashion selections to sprawling live set-ups to artiste collaborations to cultural engagements that go well beyond the transition of a verse into a chorus. When Gaga wanted to herald a social movement, she focused the first single on her pivotal "Born This Way" on LGBTQ rights; when she wanted to clue the unaware in on the magic of Jeff Koons, she hired the world-class artist to create a nude replica of her "Fame" persona for her latest album cover. Sure, there are times when the simple pleasure of a verse and a chorus is enough to satisfy, but Gaga has always demanded more and when she has found success, she has upheld achievements that no other pop artist has sniffed.

"ARTPOP," the follow-up to "Born This Way," naturally abides by this far-reaching ambition and looks to re-think the "pop album" as an entity, even more than Lady Gaga's last album did. It's not surprising that "ARTPOP" will be packaged with an interactive app that blends music, art, fashion and technology together, since that is precisely what "ARTPOP" the album tries to actualize; Gaga is grasping more cultural trinkets than ever before, and wants to synthesize them into one mind-blowing, 15-song statement. When Gaga balances these skyward designs with dynamic songwriting when she successfully mixes the 'art' with the 'pop,' if you will the results are often euphoric. "Dope" and "Gypsy" are compelling accounts of personal hell and heaven on the back half of the album, and when the midway run of the seductive "Sex Dreams," boisterous "Jewels n' Drugs," effervescent "MANiCURE" and slithering "Do What U Want" takes hold, it's a long-player experience unlike anything a pop fan will hear this year. Of course, some of the more convoluted tracks sputter out before Gaga can carry her vision through, but even the weakest moments on "ARTPOP" are so carefully built and ardently imagined that one cannot help but admire the effort.

Coherently channeling R&B, techno, disco and rock music as a pop artist while discussing sex, drugs, lust, God, fame and creativity, Lady Gaga has offered fans her most sonically and lyrically diverse album to date. "ARTPOP" is imperfect, but so is its creator. It is a complicated album that should be applauded (pun intended) for inspiring interpretation, as well as telling fans that it's also okay to just dance.

ARTPOP is filled with unique pop music that cannot be matched with other pop artists. There are songs on the album that truly show her diverse talent and creativity. However, I feel the "Art" aspect of it is missing on the album. Not a big deal since her live performance are very, very artistic. Overall, it's an amazing pop album with great potential to exploit great art performances.

There is no focus here, no art (good art anyway)...there aren't even any remotely good songs this time. This is one of the worst albums that a major (formerly major now) pop star has ever made. I wouldn't normally give anything such a low rating, but this really is embarrassing and awful.

Terribly poorly produced, embarrassing lyrics, it sounds a mess from start to finish and it even manages be pretentious to the max. There is no art in Artpop. It is a forgettable experience that has the depth of a saucer. It sounds like a last minute rushed effort from a woman unable to deliver an acceptable pop experience. It could be very well the end of her career.

"Because having a good voice and be the queen of the costume party does not mean that your songs are wonderful. Nobody explained it to Lady Gaga? All is not gold that glitters like not every painting, sculpture and photography is art. And the same applies to the songs and the music, though she did not seem to be very clear: no, Stefani, this is not the album of the millennium."

While it may not be a masterpiece of "art," nor a masterpiece of "pop," the fact of the matter is that Lady Gaga has combined the two in a way that is, if nothing else, interesting to ponder.

When the title "ARTPOP" was first unveiled, no one was quite sure what to make of it. Now that the album's here, it seems that even fewer people understand what Lady Gaga was going for here.

However, there a few telling lines that, in my view, seem to elaborate just what aspects of art Gaga was hoping to inject into the pop world: "Free my mind, ARTPOP/You make my heart stop," "It's not a statement as much as just a move of passion," "My ARTPOP could mean anything," and verse two of "Sexxx Dreams" in it's entirety.

Together, these lines seem to argue that ARTPOP is not meant to be anything in particular, but rather a collection of what happens when Lady Gaga "frees her mind" and writes off of her thoughts, much in the same way that modern visual art is often used as a way to release the artist's thoughts, whether the final product is coherent or not. So, the "message" of ARTPOP is, in a sense, that ARTPOP is incoherent because in reality, things are rarely actually coherent. This makes for an interesting concept, especially when paired with the fact that the sonic flow of the album and the track order is probably Lady Gaga's most coherent yet (not to say that the flow is never broken, because simply put, some songs could have been cut if the album was truly meant to be a "journey from start to finish").

Even if not -every- line is a gem (e.g.: "Don't you know my ass is famous!") and the lyrics in general seem lackluster compared to some of Gaga's earlier work, the concepts and ideas she discusses here are far more compelling than her previous albums. Still, the lyrics can be flat-out grating sometimes, so that's definitely a fault that can't be simply passed off as Lady Gaga "freeing her mind" to make truthful ARTPOP. Simply because one is "freeing their mind" does not excuse not refining one's ideas.

The music of ARTPOP is perhaps where the biggest problem and strength lies. It's simply boring and simple at times, but brilliant and heavily nuanced with layers at others. That's not to say that any attempt at minimalism in the album is bad, as sometimes the simplicity of the album's music works fabulously, in the case of "Do What U Want." Other times however, the simplicity comes across as empty and lazy, such as in the case of certain moments of "Venus" (not that the song is altogether bad, it just has moments that leave much to be desired).

Overall, Lady Gaga's ARTPOP is far more fun to think about and ponder than actually listen to, which perhaps adds to the truthfulness of the album's "ART" half and a bit of falsehood to the "POP" side of things. This album may very well fail to keep Lady Gaga at the top of the charts, but it doesn't make the album less compelling as an experiment in pop music, something that hasn't happened in recent memory.

Essential Tracks (It's funny that the "best" tracks on some reviews are the "worst" on others, I guess this just adds to the fact that criticism is the art of subjectivity): "Mary Jane Holland," "Gypsy," "Jewels and Drugs," "Do What U Want," and "ARTPOP" (Don't even try to claim that the background sounds for the title track were produced while not high).

Forgettable Tracks: "Dope" and, to a lesser extent, "Applause."

    Score: 8/10

Listening to Artpop makes that rivalry seem both silly and kind of important. Silly because the two women are entirely different: Perry’s Prism shows off a superstar choosing to tone down her personality and offer a grab bag of fashionable sounds to reach the widest audience possible. Artpop sees Gaga going harder, louder, funnier—more extreme—in the hopes of selling millions. The distinction is important because a lot of people look at pop music as uniform and soulless. While Prism could have been made by anyone, Artpop is unmistakably a Gaga creation. It may not be quite as incredible as Gaga thinks it is, and its excesses will turn a lot of people away, but it's nevertheless big, dumb pop music with a person behind it—a person who unapologetically, desperately craves to be loved.

While listening, one may wonder what the concept behind the album was: sure, we have heard numerous decriptions about the album from the pop Lady herself, but unfortunately, the record is not exactly what the title suggests. However, by no means does that equal to a bad album; what's more, ARTPOP is quite the opposite!

The only point of view the ARTPOP concept could work in, lies beneath the structure of the songs. Without any exception, they all combine conventional pop tricks with unusual, somewhat artistic touches. The Bowie-esque vocals in 'Applause', the husky voice in 'Dope', or the electro extravaganza of 'Mary Jane Holland' are prime examples of that.

Although ARTPOP may not excel in artistry, there's a department where it truly shines: the ability to combine some of her best bits from both 'Born This Way', and her debut album, 'The Fame', by mixing the grown-up, harsh, and loud sounds of the recent Gaga with the playful lyrics of her early works. To be fair, if we consider the aforementioned records ART and POP respectively, the intent of ARTPOP is not even that far off, actually. Should you not agree with that approach, the album still remains to be what it is: a near-perfect POP record.

Highlights include: G.U.Y., Sexxx Dreams, ARTPOP, Mary Jane Holland, and Gypsy.

But with ARTPOP, Gaga attempts to take the topic of pop culture, the fame, and mix it with art. In essence, she takes what Andy Warhol did with his paintings and photography, and reverses it, pouring the creation of art into a medium, in her case, her music and public image. As such, the album feels more uniformed, and more fulfilling than “The Fame.” Unlike her enormously successful debut album however, ARTPOP does not contain massively worldwide hits ala “Just Dance” or “Poker Face.” But when dealing with ARTPOP as an album in full, that’s perfectly fine. Gaga unlike most modern artists always attempts to create a cohesive idea, a balanced number of songs that play together, rather than create an album full of unsystematic and unhinged cheap singles. 8/10 Expand

I've always had a love-hate relationship with Lady Gaga. She is a brilliant artist, not in a musical sense, but in the field of fame. She is a brilliant artist, not in a musical sense, but in the field of fame. To me, she excels in the art of celebrity for she knows how to generate adoration as much as she does spite. It is quite effortless to hate her, yet no so to ignore her completely. Unlike the 90 percent in the mainstream music industry today, Lady Gaga proves that she still cares and she still tries. Unlike them, she actually holds the potential to change pop music forever. She's interesting, offensive, lovable, annoying, smart, stupid, pretentious, relatable, genuine and fake, all at the same time. The woman herself can be called PopArt, the carrier of Warholian legacy: loud crass and in your face but still catches our attention and turns our heads. This album, the so called "reverse Warholian experience" ArtPop is pretty much the same embodiment of herself: meaningless and beautiful. A true guilty pleasure.

The thing is, Lady Gaga failed to deliver Artpop to me the way she intended to. She claimed that this work of hers will bring art and pop together. No it does not, and I am pretty sure nothing she does ever will. Gaga is pretty clueless about this art of hers. Is it the colorful banal kitsch-turned-art movement of Warhol or Koons, the latter with whom she is working with? Then why is it that she incorporates Venus and Botticelli all on her album cover, Applause video and numerous appearances? She furthermore embarassed herself, and me, when she mistook the "Birth of Venus" and the "Venus de Milo" during an interview. It is true, she is desperate to cling into this art movement of hers and failed on every note. To be honest, this is the only thing that hindered her album from great heights: Her stupid art pretension leading people to expect non-existent thing from her. The album's name is her death bell. Had this work been simply called "Venus" it would pretty much spells her next The Fame's success.

That aside, the album itself is a fascinating musical journey. The fact that she mainly employs EDM on 70 percent of the tracklist does not hinder its enjoyability at all. Gaga's strongest point has always been dance pop and powerballad and she really knows how to bring them out here. Furthermore, her delving into other genres is not so right, as proven in the disastrous "Jewels n Drugs", the only true disposable track with no redeeming feature from Gaga. Sexxx Dreams, G.U.Y and MANiCURE: the sex crazed trinity yet ironically have the best shot for an international hit. Each of those three embraces a different prospect of lust, more than just what many people simply like to generalize as sex. Whereas G.U.Y has a submissive, begging, hailing tone to it, MANiCURE, with its strong vocal delivery and rock influence, commands, not asks, for love.
Sexx Dreams, on the other hand, has the singer torn between fantasy and truth, as she previously stated herself, with its surreal 80s disco feel thanks to the mid-tempo thumping bass and her mouthing the lines. Another trinity of Artpop I would like to call out is the "i am not sure about this" trinity, including Aura, Swine and Venus. Here I just want to bring back my feelings towards Gaga, how I love her and hate her just as I love and hate these songs. There are moments in these three songs that can almost bring forth an, sorry for the tacky term, eargasm. Mainly, the choruses of Aura, Venus and the Swine's hook. Yet there are moments that can make you cringe and face palm. The horrible laughing of Aura, the annoying 10 second long rising beat before the drop in Swine that sounds like a malfunctioning printer, and the disjointed pre chorus pre pre chorus of Venus. Clearly these are very experimental and that's commendable but they fail short as a whole package. They are still on my jam list, my little guilty pleasures.

The other half of Gaga's third full LP shows a little more diversity from her usual electro pop, with Fashion chanelling Madonna's Fashion (in a good way) but still fails to leave any lasting impression, another song from Artpop that fails to stay in my head is Donatella, with Gaga trying for a celebrity caricature sarcastic piece, a smart self parody move, yet her delivery is awkward and annoying, not to mention the fact that the lyrics are on par with Rebecca Black's Friday. With those bads out of the way, tthere leaves the vocal show" trinity. Clearly that would include Dope, Do what you want and Gypsy. Dope, a brutally honest and painful confession, delivered in all rawness of her voice, is one of the few songs that brings back her Fame Monster vibe: the struggle with fame and its deadly consequences: drugs. Gypsy is another story of my life, Marry the night kinda song that flawlessly unfolds both on accoustic and dancepop.

In conclusion, Artpop is far from prefect. But that is why it is so remarkable. It is the self portrait of a polarizing figure who both builds up and destroys herself in front of everyone.

Which is why it pains me to say ARTPOP isn't very good. We've been waiting 2 1/2 years for a new Gaga album and what we got instead was Zedd's new album featuring Gaga.

She showed in "Born This Way" that she wasn't purely going to be a pop princess. She began showing her rock n' roll side, started to venture into more aggressive beats and showed growth as an artist. This approach was met with mixed reactions. Many people felt betrayed because she was no longer focused on just making pop music with catchy hooks, where others felt it was her growing into what she was meant to be.

ARTPOP takes a step backward and is almost purely a techno/trance album. You get overpowering beats that just come off as messy. When you hear the lyrics, they are boring and the same across nearly every song. So much of the album is a plea to the listener "I am super sexual and I want you to see me as a sex icon". I encourage female artists to explore their sexuality, lord knows American society needs women in control of it, but I don't want every song to be about it.

There is very little this album offers to fans or non fans alike. I personally think Aura, Applause and Swine are strong entries but most everything else is forgettable.

Pay close attention to the reviews you read. Many reviews are just hatred of Gaga without any substance and others are pure love that would never think anything Mother Monster do could be bad. I still love Gaga but this album just doesn't do her talent justice.

2 1/2 years until the next try I guess.

My problem with Gaga is her albums, as they tend to be more fillers rather than fun songs. Finally Gaga has delivered an album where almost every song can be considered a hit song. ARTPOP isn't perfect, but it delivers plenty of great production value, terrific songs, and amazing pace to keep things flowing just right. The first half is a standout, starting off with "Aura" then "Venus", "G.U.Y" and "Sexxx Dreams". The biggest surprise is the track "Jewels N' Drugs" which could've been a disaster, but works as a really cool hip-hop influenced pop song (take some notes Miley Cyrus). Other standouts include "MANiCURE", "Do What U Want", "Swine", "Fashion!", and "Mary Jane Holland", the whole album feels like a really awesome musical, with the finale being the big hit "Applause". Another great surprise is that the slow songs are few, and luckily are worth a listen, which include "Dope" and "Gypsy". Problems are that the story does get lost at points and feels a little too hypnotic. Also a few songs feel a too showy like the song"ARTPOP". But overall, ARTPOP can't quite get up to the level of being art, but it certainly gets close, and what we're left with is a superb pop album that may be Lady Gaga's best yet. Expand

Yet fans loved her performing the song on the Itunes Music Festival, it would have failed in the charts would she have released it as a second single.

Venus Here comes the track produced by GaGa herself. It is a mix of 90's with some 70's in it. Having build up moments and a clear vision that only she could sing it is there. Yet the song fails to be memorable and not radio friendly. It comes as no surprise she choose to make it a promotional single instead of the second single.

G.U.Y. The beginning is something that really draws you in and makes you fall in love with the track the moment you reach the chorus. Zedd produced a solid track that will bring back The Fame fans that left GaGa when Born This Way came out. This has to become a single.

Sexxx Dreams What is common knowledge is GaGa use of past music and give it her touch. This song touches Kylie Minogue in the Chorus without being a rip off. She delivers showcasing that she is diverse with a bit darker sounding verses and poppy fun chorus.

Jewels N’ Drugs (feat. T.I., Too $hort, & Twista) This track is misplaced on so many levels. The production is on point, but the reality is that Lady GaGa cannot touch Hip Hop on this level. This makes it look forced and not GaGa at all. Who ever thinks this track is brilliant might as well go play with Miley Cyrus and keep taking those mollies.

MANiCURE This is a standout track!! Will Britney fans go crazy and start saying the chorus sounds like Mannequin, yes they will. Let me be clear this is so much better then mannequin. The vocals and raspyness of it will make every girl and every gay boy who listens to the song go wild before a night out.

Do What You U Want (feat. R. Kelly) Second material right here!! The R&B/Pop song is an middle finger to the critics and haters. It is not forced at all when putting it next to Jewels N Drugs. The chorus is infectious and memorable and the productions on it own is stellar.

ARTPOP The title song of the album is not a banger and not a snooze fest, but it is certainly the song you will put in the background of a lounge party. The lyrics are strong, but it is not really memorable as a whole. Good diverse song, but not great.

Swine At first listen things song could have been pop perfection. The truth is that were the song is club ready and will make you dance all night long, as a whole the use of too much EDM breaks makes it too long. Were the breaks shorter it would have been the best record in years. Non the less another stand out track.

Donatella People that haven't got a fashion background or isn't interested in fashion will know who Donatella is. But that is irrelevant for a song that screams your attention with a chorus that is not repetitive at all. The lyrics being a love letter from GaGa to Donatella will make you fall in love with this track.

Fashion! The song produced by Guetta and Will.I.Am that everyone expected to be a banger is not that at all. Does it stand out? No. Will people like it? Yes. The production which is smooth and totally not Guetta or Will.I.Am is great and makes it a great album track. The only bad thing is that while it is the best production Will.I.Am has made in years, it is becoming annoying how he has to put vocals in songs he produces.

Mary Jane Holland The track that was written during her time in Amsterdam of her Born This Way Tour. The track is dark and catchy and sound like it is the track you will listen during a party that brings your friends together while smoking some mary. Madeon production is effortless and the bridge is a good break from the song.

Dope This is what everyone is waiting from GaGa on a album. Where You & I came close to satisfy fans, this one will make them cry from joy of having a song like this and the lyrics of it. Being the most vulnerable GaGa has been, it rough and rawness will make everyone relate making this one of the most standout tracks of the album. This track has all the potential to be a single and not a promotional one.

Gypsy Starting with piano and making everyone believe it is ballad it turns into this full forced EDM track. It's so big and hits all the boxes of hit in the right places. This is can well be the song that would have made the best first single for GaGa of her ARTPOP era.

Applause When listening to the album this song that everyone knows as the first single is a no go. The lyrics are not that interesting, but at the same time the chorus is memorable. This song should have not be made first single material. I might go even further suggestion not even on the album.

Feeling less of a mixed bag than Born This Way, the sounds and quality of these songs read more cohesively than on it’s predecessor. ARTPOP is essentially one giant electronic dance pop album. And for every experimental verse is a HUGE pop chorus. (As exhibited by “Aura” and “Venus”). There’s variety to Gaga’s vocal delivery, while often displaying a throatier bellow (As exhibited by “MANiCURE”, “Do What U Want”, and “DOPE”).
As with Born This Way, the promotional campaign for ARTPOP has been primarily hype. Gaga debuted half the album two months prior at the 2013 iTunes Festival. I found that I preferred the lower vocal delivery and more industrial rockier feel of the songs from the performance (except “Jewels & Drugs”), but I believe this says more about Gaga as a performer, than it says about the Album lacking. But unlike Born This Way, the overarching Theme is not communicated well, if at all. A “reverse Warholian expedition” this is not. Save for “Venus” which is semi-inspired by the famous Boticelli painting, we have mere mentions of this idea in “ARTPOP” and “Applause” in which she explains that “ARTPOP could be anything”, “We could belong together”, and “One second I’m a Koons, then suddenly the Koons is me”.
As far as the songs go, they’re crafted well and sound fantastic. Even trap-y “Jewels & Drugs” sounds okay, despite the mess it was during iTunes Fest. “Aura” with its cinematic intro and glitchy verses, certainly Gaga at her most experimental, is still grounded in a glorious pop chorus. The galactic “Venus” demonstrates harmonized chanting vocals reminiscent of QUEEN or Bowie, and brings it to a chorus possibly as big as “Bad Romance”. “G.U.Y” and “Sexxx Dreams” both dark and dirty dance songs demonstrate an airier vocal, with the later sounding like Janet Jackson followed by a Disco bridge. 80’S rock romp “MANiCURE” channels Pat Benatar, complete with a chanting chorus and eerie sci-fi synth. “Do What U Want”, with throatier Christina Aguilerian vocals, pulsates and throbs while dismissing critics (and enticing lovers). Gaga softly coos over underwater bleeps and pulses, while percolating beats build with angelic wailing on “ARTPOP”. Hiccups, squeaks, and grunts jitter over bubbly synths culminating in a huge drop, bringing out the rave in “Swine”. “Donatella” exhibits the snarky, ironic, satirical lyrics of The Fame (while also weirdly paying homage to friend and designer Versace?). Glittery piano introduces “Fashion!”, a strutting disco number that harkens Bowie (while sharing the title of practically 5 previously released songs). The throbbing “Mary Jane Holland” displays some more ironic lyrics while theatrically confessing love for weed. The confessional “Dope”, and sprawling “Gypsy” take up the piano ballad spots of the album, while utilizing synths to help integrate the songs with the album, unlike on previous Gaga records. And ending on the finale of “Applause”.
As much as ARTPOP may not be doing what it needed to conceptually, sonically it provides much to be satisfied with.

ARTPOP is a great album, but fails to snatch the title as the "Album of the year" thanks to Cyrus "Bangerz" released earlier in October.
