  1. 91
The heartbreak on Give Till It's Gone is savage and genuine.
  2. May 17, 2011
    80
It is raw, warped, and cathartic.
  3. May 17, 2011
    60
While nowhere near as focused as 2009's White Lies for Dark Times, Give Till It's Gone does possess moments when all of Harper's gifts as a writer and guitarist are evidently clear.
  4. 60
He might lack a sense of direction personally (at least right now), but it's this lack of clarity that has produced a very focused record.

Ben Harper returns with his follow up to 2009's blues-heavy "White Lies for Dark Times" which he did with his new band Relentless7. Now he's back and he brought a Beatle with him. Give till it's Gone is nearly just as great as "White Lies" focusing more on destructive blues than quiet folk tunes. Ringo Starr helps him out with two tracks, including a great jam called "get here from there" He rocks out on "Rock N Roll is Free" It's not, it costs money. But for Harper, every penny is worth it.
