Our Love To Admire - Interpol
Our Love To Admire Image
  • Summary: Interpol moves to Capitol Records with their third studio album.
Score distribution:
  1. Positive: 25 out of 37
  2. Negative: 2 out of 37
  1. The band have colonised the rich turf at the intersection of meticulously structured mope-rock and free-flowing three-chord pop, where moments of resignation cosy up alongside twinkling hopes for the future like Winehouse to the sauce.
  2. Crucially, it seems their ability to write a magisterially moving song such as "NYC" or "Obstacle No 1", both from their debut, seems to have abandoned them. In fairness, sonically speaking, this is their best effort yet.
  3. Our Love To Admire isn't even a contractual obligation to push off without care. But boy does it sound like one; a band phoning it in, out of steam, and running on a few lingering fumes and smoldering coals.

  1. Honestly don't care what "Interpol" fans say... As myself is a Interpol fan i declare this is definitely their second best only just behind Turn On The Bright Lights, not really. But this album is amazing, great opening track in Pioneer To The Falls then going into my personal all time favourite Interpol song No I In Threesome then finishing a lovely end of Lighthouse. I personally believe Paul Bank sings at his best in this whole album... his vocals just sound more clearer.. then his other stuff... The Bass lines however aren't as AMAZING!! or remeberable then their debut of Turn On The Bright Lights or i guess "Antics" but Carlos Dengler identity will still of course live in this album... Daniel Kessler of course doing a great job on his guitar through the whole album... and Sam amazing drumming. GREAT ALBUM my number 2 interpol album and number 16 on my top 100 albums. AMAZING ALBUM ********** Expand

Mostly generic and dissapointing follow-up to Antics and their absolute masterpiece Turn On The Bright Lights, with the occasional flash of brilliance that is "Pace Is The Trick". "Rest My Chemistry" (Paul Banks still has to be one of our best contemporary lyricists), the straight-forward vintage interpol-sounding "Who Do You Think" and haunting closer "Lighthouse" are my other personal favourites and save this disc from plain mediocricity. Songs however like the directionless 'The Scale" and the awful "All Fired Up" aren't even B-sides worthy and imo a blamage to a very good band. Overall a 5,5/10. Expand
