In terms of breath-snatching bravura, Worden shines very brightly indeed. [July 2008, p.105]

The resulting oestrogen charge--an operatic Tori Amos with a dab of Jane Siberry--is terrific when Worden reins in the "hello trees, hello sky" imagery, wincingly precious when she fails. [July 2008, p.110]

Shara Worden, aka My Brightest Diamond sings like a female Jeff Buckley on A Thousand Shark's Teeth, a blend of Tom Waits-inspired weirdness, ambient rock and neo-classical textures. [July 2008, p.113]
  4. Too often, Teeth sacrifices that for experiments that translate into beautiful arrangements, but turn songs as a whole into frustrating, incomplete muddles.

It's all quite mesmerizing, until you notice the overworked lyrics, which weakly describe heartbreak in terms of weather, stars, and, uh, hearts. [July 2008, p.100]

4/10. Below average. Definitely the weakest of all MBD albums. Hauntingly beautiful moments can still be found on it - here and there - of4/10. Below average. Definitely the weakest of all MBD albums. Hauntingly beautiful moments can still be found on it - here and there - of course, but the album as a whole is an uninspiring one. Boring most times. Bring Me the Workhorse (2006) though still far from perfect is far better than this. Grab any of the other before trying it - preferably: This is my Hand (2014) or All Things Will Unwind (2011), because listening to this first might push you away from MBD for good. For collectors or die-hard fans only. Full Review »
