  • Summary: This sixth album for Rjyan Kidwell's Cex project finds him joined by Joan of Arc's Cale Parks and his wife Roby Newton.
Score distribution:
  1. Positive: 3 out of 8
  2. Negative: 0 out of 8
  1. As the album carries on, it becomes more and more evident that this albums is less about sex than a statement about the overblown pretentiousness and drama surrounding many of the bands with artistic merit that are popular, circa 2006.
  2. I'm not clear on everything Cex, but I've heard enough to know you want to hear this.
  3. It's a huge headfirst leap into the unknown for Kidwell, and more often than not, he sounds pretty lost. But it's an encouraging kind of lost, and the scenery is often breathtaking when it's not so jarring.
  4. It's disturbing like a Mike Patton record, with blink-and-you'll-miss-it lyrics that serve as confrontational one-liners.
  5. What’s most striking about the album is the realization that despite his reputation as a musical chameleon, all of Cex’s albums are pretty similar.
  6. For an album that sounds as unique as this one, at its core, it’s really fairly ordinary.

A touchy-feely orgy better left spooning in its afterglow 10 years previous when the feeling was still fresh. [#21, p.96]

One of my favorite albums of the year. It's really rich and deeply layered and refreshing.
