Fujiya & Miyagi can rock! In fact, they can punk rock. David Best is a guitar god in an electronica band. The album does not, unfortunately, rock as hard as their live shows, but I hear the influences of Gang of Four and Sonic Youth in addition to the more expected influences of Depeche Mode and Kraftwerk. If you get the chance to see them live, do not pass it up.

Amid the brightness and snark of another consistently entertaining Fujiya & Miyagi record, it’s a reminder that even our modern Lucifers have many dimensions to them.

They still sound a little too arch and buttoned-up to make a convincing transition from lab to club. [Jun 2014, p.111]

With their fifth album, Artificial Sweeteners, Fujiya & Miyagi once again mine opposite ends of the lyrical spectrum whilst delivering their most musically satisfying collection to date.
