There is a remarkable melodicism and ease with which the album is embued that are more pronounced here than on Bryan's stunning Olympia. Thus far, the Avonmore has impressed me considerably, though I shall be returning soon here with a more comprehensive review.

Bryan Ferry's latest, "Avonmore" may be drawn from previous successes as made infinitely obvious by all the criticism drawing that conclusion. But, I say, so what? This new CD is a smart, stylish, polished recording that conjures up so much of what appeals to Ferry's listeners. Sure, the "Avalon" groove is apparent, but, I say again, so what! But, I say, so what? This new CD is a smart, stylish, polished recording that conjures up so much of what appeals to Ferry's listeners. Sure, the "Avalon" groove is apparent, but, I say again, so what! This is a disc I can put on and have the pleasure of relaxing to as Ferry croons his practiced, distinctive vocal. And while this recording also relies very heavily upon studio wizardry, I still find the music fascinating and have a strong suspicion that it will have far more staying power, style & content-wise than some critics believe to be the case. Frankly, this is no step back in time, just a new release that makes for a pleasant listen over and over. And its no less hip in case you're wondering, son! Expand

That search for perfection, his own predilection, goes on, gorgeously lit by this. [Feb 2015, p.99]

Avonmore doesn't quite match 2010's fine comeback solo album, Olympia. [Jan 2015, p.125]

Though it may sound like something from his late-era Roxy days, it isn't on par with those classics. Still, Avonmore is evidence that--even as he approaches his 70th year on this planet--Ferry is certainly capable of recording primo baby-making music.
