Despite being a compilation, this collection has an immaculate flow--like all Beach House albums.

Covering more than a decade's worth of songs, the collection underscores that while Beach House's music sounds fragile, it's also surprisingly resilient.

For a band that creates as rabid of fans as Beach House, this b-sides collection is a welcome addition to one of the best independent catalogs this decade.

The new versions of songs are all better than the originals. [Aug 2017, p.45]

This is more a record for hardcore fans than casual ones, though there are some distinct highlights.

Though the majority of B-Sides and Rarities can be easily found by those inclined to find it (the piano sketch “Rain in Numbers” is a hidden track at the end of Beach House’s self-titled debut, making it not much of a B-side or a rarity), the impulse to gather up loose ends into a cohesive package feels like a solid effort at future-proofing recordings peripheral to the band’s primary discography.

This is the archetypical B-sides and rarities album. Thankfully, Beach House's B-sides are equivalent to most bands' A-sides, yet we are still left with a mixed bag.

I tend to stay away from b sides as they are more for hardcore fans but this is a beauty

They are out on their own in the weird dreamy indie pop genre they dwell in. "B-Sides and Rarities" is much more than a collection of throw aways an leftovers. Many of the songs are album quality and many tracks are alternate versions of some of their best stuff. It understandibly has more of the feel of a collection rather than an album but it is still quite cohesive in style as all the songs are built around the unmistakable Beach House aesthetic. This is a must have for fans of the band. Funnily enough, while not their best release, it mightactually be a decent point to introduce yourself to the band. Expand
