May 16, 2016All of the classic rock components are here--drug-induced percussion segues, heavy distortion on guitars, a singer who may or may not be fully cognizant about whether the recording process is underway. There’s an ethos at work, a controlled chaos, and it’s a brilliantly orchestrated jam session.

May 16, 2016Beauty Already Beautiful is bold, soul-baring proof that Spookyland knows the best rock & roll is all about unexpected contrasts; even when they nod to decades' worth of rock history, they sound vital, never lazy.

UncutMay 16, 2016[The songs are] stoked by a slow-burning intensity that peaks in controlled explosions, Marcus Gordon's voice their focus. [Jun 2016, p.79]

MagnetJun 1, 2016This sounds like grim stuff, but Gordon and Co. come off less dour than agitated, and even on its slower tracks, Beauty Already Beautiful has a lot of current running through it. [No. 131, p.61]

May 16, 2016I found Spookyland to be at their best and most original at their extremes: haunting, bare ballads or big, proto-shoegaze anthems, where they create a soft, pillowy canvas for Gordon’s poetry, rather than jam its sensitivity into a noisy, pub band format. And yet, Spookyland succeeds throughout to create their own twisted universe of youthful feeling, using their moody rock ‘n’ roll to process a mad world.

Q MagazineMay 16, 2016Unlike the singer, the songs need to project a little more, but Beauty Already Beautiful sounds an intriguing first note. [Jul 2016, p.114]
