A glorious and human introduction, this is without doubt a modern-day shoegaze classic.

Their execution is highly impressive, Bedroom may be retro in its thinking, but on this debut bdrmm have proved to be forward thinking in execution. An assured and brilliant debut.

A heady, forward-thinking shoegaze distillation, ‘Bedroom’ is a vital listen, with bdrmm allowing their early promise to fully develop. Much more than a genre piece, it’s a vital delve into the power of our communal isolation.

The Hull five-piece treads the queasy tightrope of prime Cure, Ride etc with real dexterity. [Aug 2020, p.94]

This is a confident and assured debut that demands a sequel.

Thankfully though, less worthy moments are heavily outnumbered by their more interesting peers and, for a first full collection, Bedroom is a resounding success. bdrmm have chosen a well-worn path, but there’s a freshness here nevertheless.

Tracing the emotional arc of the album, a couple of calmer interludes lead into the crashing splendor of "If...." and the brooding shoegaze turbulence of "Is That What You Wanted to Hear?" The glacial drift of "Forget the Credits" feels like all of the previous songs' stress has been released as a balloon, and it feels fine to just lay back and free one's self of all burdens, now that it's all over.

It might feel too in thrall to their heroes at times. ... But Bdrmm's world of noise is so artfully constructed it's hard to not find yourself lost within it. [Aug 2020, p.102]

After Shazzaming the track I instantly fell in love with this bands material (And this is coming from somebody who doesn't follow shoe gaze too closely) The fact that this is the bands debut album is nothing short of amazing. These boys have a bright future if they can continue to produce music on this level! Full Review »

Really enjoying this album.... Reminds me of the 80s (the good parts). A little Stone Roses going on.

It's got the right tones and says all the right things but the further into the album I got the more I realised it's a semi decent imitation of the trailblazers of the genres they blend here. When the album isn't sounding like a watered down Slowdive it's sounding like the sleepy pop of Beach Fossils or Real Estate (see "Gush" for example). There may be the uninitiated out there where BDRMM will be their introduction to this type of sound and that's great. In time they will no doubt discover the pioneers. I remember My Vitriol of the early 00's having a similar impact on me (although their "Finelines" album remains an excellent album) This isn't a bad record at all and sounds pretty cool. It's just not particularly original or stand out in any way. Full Review »
