This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Really nice work as always by Cat Power! She is thinking out of the box and she bravely cover songs no matter the genre. She doesn't loose herself at all! Frank Ocean and Lana Del Rey's covers are the highlights for me. Expand

her voice is still beautiful and some of the covers here sound really good.

What a graceful song! The voice from Cat Power is a true blessing, and it gets me in touch with my sensation. I'm quite blown away.

Though the nature of Covers makes it slightly scattershot, and nothing quite hits the heights of some of her past covers, it is decidedly more engaging and diverse than her last album, the lowkey-to-the-point-of-disappearing Wanderer.

As Marshall proves time and time again, you don’t need original compositions to express how you’re feeling; Covers exudes confidence and hints at a new-found peace. It’s a delightful listen.

The album closes with a hushed but comparatively straightforward version of Eddie Heywood’s “I’ll Be Seeing You,” which was immortalized in the 1940s by Billie Holiday — completing yet another stellar addition to the Cat Power canon, which is formidable no matter whose songs she’s singing.
